He's not necessarily dumb, for all we know he could be a nerdy programmer with an above average IQ but he's definitely not wise and that's the problem. Men these days lack intuitive wisdom when it comes to women, they've always been thought to assume the best about women so of course "his" wife goes hiking at 2 AM with her friends. I remember reading a few years ago that some business from a Scandinavian country made a 'smart' scale, basically it had a calendar function which would be used to set up all the holidays that you choose to celebrate and then the scale would automatically subtract -3kg from your weight after each holiday so you don't feel like a fatass with no impulse control.
