I think the important takeaway here is that you have her number and she was willing to give it to you. From this point forward you should use that advantage to try and hang out with her rather than worry about the small stuff such as texting. Remember to always text with a purpose.

Don’t worry too much about women at this age, instead focus on things to make sure that you can become the best version of yourself possible. You’re young so you have PLENTY of time to date and whatnot. Right now don’t sweat the small stuff and focus on putting yourself out there to socialize, build your network and have fun, and the rest will come naturally

Honestly ignore this guy. I think your approach was fine and you were very straightforward. In some cases it’s hard to predict what the other side is like. Perhaps she was already talking to some guy? Perhaps she’s just really busy and forgot to reply? Maybe something came on in her life. I don’t thing your approach was cringe at all. Getting dates is really just a numbers game. Some you’ll lose, some you’ll win. Point is that you keep trying and improving

People will show interest by making time for you. At first glance there isn’t enough content assume the POI is in fact interested in you. Cues such as them initiating conversation, asking questions and even making plans are all signs that they are interested in you. If you’re the one constantly making plans, or trying to initiate conversation over and over again without them making a sincere effort, chances are they aren’t that into you. Remember attraction is a two way street.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
