Yeah just gonna happen at that age, best thing is to act like you don't give a fuck. Never ever look like you care. Even if you cut them off, don't make a thing of it.

Oh interesting, I've only ever heard of porridge in the context of oats so you could be right. Imma do some research.

Yep you got it, volume eating hermano. A tip I discovered, when cooking porridge (oatmeal as you Americans call it) - double the amount of milk and cook it on a very low heat for twice the amount of time. The oats will absorb all the milk and double in size, and taste a lot more creamy. Dreamy. For example 25g oats, 250ml milk, dash of honey. Job done.

Try and become a 'T' shaped engineer. Basically have a speciality but also be able to hop around and do different things. Get good at interviews/impressing the people hiring. A lot of this just comes with time, the more you practice the better you get. Most of office politics just comes down to being best friends with everyone. Isolate colleague's to 1to1 talks often to make everyone think you're their best friend. Don't get involved with drama. Put your ego aside, you can always get better. Mak…

Won't name the company but generic engineering company in the south of the UK. My role isn't exactly remote by definition, but covid has forced everyone to work remotely, and turns out I can do that pretty well. There seems to have been a culture shift recently, everyone is waking up to the fact that forcing everyone to travel long distances to work in the same stuffy room isn't always a good use of resources.

Remote work my friend. I'm a software engineer, love the work, hate the 9-5 rat race office life. Been working remotely since the start of covid and it's changed the game for me. Working remotely gives two main benefits. Time. Finding the time to get a workout in, work on personal projects or enjoy myself is so much easier when I don't spend 2 hours of my day commuting, getting ready for work. Also when you're stuck in the office all you can do is talk to the people in the office. Whereas from h…

I think it's important to remember that success is what you define it as, it's relative to the person. Success for one person might mean being a millionaire, whereas for another it might mean living a well travelled and interesting life. Doesn't matter what your version of success is, what's important is that you chase it 100%.

Agreed. Home workouts are great for fitness and endurance strength, military training etc. But ain't nobody getting swole from a few pressups. Muscle growth and hypertrophy need resistance and progressive overload (adding 5kg to your bench each month). Also gotta have the correct diet, you won't put on muscle if you're cutting.

It gets easier over time. You will have setbacks and failures, but you'll learn from them as long as you keep a positive mindset. I used to think I was above average for going to the gym 2-3 times a week. Now I look back and think "man I was a pussy". It's like looking back to school, when at the time the work seemed difficult, but you adapt and grow to the point where now that same amount of work would be trivial for you. Just remember that your mind is your most valuable tool, be careful who y…

Same situation as you my friend. I've been treating it as an excuse to focus on my self, one long monk mode journey. Also you can get tinder plus and set your location to the closest big town / city, then go slay on the weekend.

Sounds like you need a little monk mode. Embrace the rage, go spend the next 3 months in the gym blasting the Eminem. Each day it'll matter a little bit less, and each day you'll get a bit better looking. Put some money aside and then in 3 months when you feel better you can treat yourself to a holiday/trip away with friends.

Yeah I'll agree with a lot of people are saying, not only do you need to be very good looking to even be considered, but you need to look cool. The most social guy in the room. Maybe focus more on talking to lots of different girls, for short amounts of time. Don't spend too long talking to any one girl. Aim of this being to let them see you talking to other girls and hamster "oh wow he must know all these people". I also think being fashionable is more important these days. The average guy in a…

Been following for 2 years now. The first year was very successful, but the last year has basically been a long monk mode. It's dry atm but it's all worth it for the self improvement. I think overall it just teaches you to be happier with yourself. I used to worry about girls and think about them a lot, now I think about money, fitness, goals etc and girls are more of an afterthought.

Not really a skill but I would recommend getting good at cooking a few basic gym meals in bulk. A few hours on a Sunday cooking your food for the week can save you a lot of time overall. It's also much easier to stick to a diet when your food is ready to go. As for an actual skill I would recommend reading up on personal finance. Half an hour a day and overtime you'll gain a solid foundation that will last you a life time. Things like investing in houses, putting your money into stocks, differen…

As a software engineer I disagree with the hype around learning programming to earn $$ as a gig. It CAN be a very lucrative career and skill to have but I really wouldn't recommend it unless you're serious and actually enjoy spending 10 hours a day on a computer. This shit takes time, sure you can learn a programming language in a few months but that doesn't mean you know anything about how to actually build something that isn't a piece of shit. I see too many people trying to get into the progr…

I'm hearing a lot of excuses. I think your problem is that YOU think you're a lost cause. You are not that special. Okay maybe you're a bit behind socially but it's really not that hard a skill to learn. Stop making excuses and start taking ownership of your life. Stop taking yourself so seriously, watch more comedies on Netflix and make the effort to talk to people when you go out. There are plenty of resources in the sidebar and on the top rated posts if you need more specific direction.

I would love to know more about your general training program, push pull legs? Strong lifts? How often do you train? Have you just been bulking for 8 years straight? And otherwise yeah don't worry, my opinion is that confidence comes naturally when you do something a lot. When you see James bond in a bar talking to a girl, it's not his first time doing it. He's done it enough times that it's like tying his shoes; he doesn't have to think about it.

What I've started doing is bulk for 3 months, cut for 2 weeks. Rinse and repeat. The idea being you can keep this up for a good year or two in order to put on a lot of muscle, but the 2 week cut will help keen the fat to a minimum.

This is something that has really resonated with me as of recent. I was sat thinking the other day about how all the people i know spend their spare time. It occurred to me that all of my successful friends, the ones who have good careers and great social lives, do not own gaming consoles. Literally none of them. When they're bored they grab their bike and go for a cycle. They call up other friends and arrange to do something. They go online and learn how to make something. Boredom can be a good…

That seems like the smart thing to do, problem is that I work and gym throughout the week which makes me introverted. Whereas when I spend a lot of time with friends I get much more into the social flow and find it so much easier to go out and have fun. Life just seems easier.

You could always move away but make the effort to really work on your family relationships by staying in as much contact as possible. Skype calls every night etc, there's no reason your dad can't be your best mate. Otherwise maybe try to convince them to go on holiday with you to Thailand, they'll see for themselves what they're missing out on and might want to join you in your travels. Good luck in the future.

I'm in the exact same situation, was lifting 5 times a week, now it's more like 4 times a week with 1 day of bjj. As of recent i have just been pushing my workouts more to the weekend so I can maintain both but it's not easy. 1 day of bjj a week doesn't seem enough. I guess you could do it in phases according to your current aim / enjoyment. So spend a few months doing 3 days gym 2 days bjj, then switch it up to 4 days gym 1 day bjj for the winter. As a software engineer I have to ask you, why do you want to learn computer programming? To make bare $$$? Because if it's to make money I'd advise you go into stock trading / banking instead. You can make good money in software but I'd personally say it's a great career for flexibility and people who enjoy working with computers. Too many people are going into it for the purpose of making money and it's not as well paid as people think.

I did computer science, 95% of people on my course were not worth the effort of talking to. You need to make friends outside of your course. Join a society or befriend people on other courses. Guys who do more physical engineering will be much more outgoing. Ultimately you should be hooking up with girls in the club so it doesn't matter if there are none on your course.

It's more than just having a sweet body, it's about pushing yourself everyday to achieve something. It's about the mindset to overcome difficulty in life that you grow and develop. Everyone hates the gym when you start, myself included, but over time it becomes something that grounds you. It's like brushing your teeth, you don't even think about it you just do it. And if you stop you feel disgusting. So yes it is important, trust in the process. Hard work will pay off.

I think it's a great idea to wait a few years, there's nothing wrong with being older and you'll have a much easier time with girls. Also as you'll be older you'll be more mature, so hopefully the studying should be easier. I'd say in the meantime make sure you spend at least a few hours a week 'prepping' for whatever you do want to study. This will help you understand how you pick up information best, aswell as doing a lot of the uni work ahead of time. What is it you plan to study?

Treat it as a 9-5 job. Spend the day at the library / gym and enjoy yourself in the evenings. Nights out are usually mid week so if the big nights are Tuesday and Thursday, take those days off and consider Saturday and Sunday as weekdays. When it comes to the actual work, work smart not hard. I'd suggest trading in company stocks instead. The problem with cryptocurrencies is that most people who are interested and trade are either technical people with no knowledge of finance / currency trading, or traders with no knowledge of how the underlying technology works. Attempting any new skill is hard. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is being able to keep working at something to push through the hard parts. Anyone can work hard when they're motivated, motivation is easy. Driven people can work even when they're not motivated. Python is the big one, along with tensorflow. Tensorflow is a bitch if you're not already a solid engineer with experience so try keras for a while to understand the high level concepts. Starting out you should aim to understand the core differences between neural networks (deep learning) and more generic machine learning algorithms (such as random forest). I would recommend looking into convolutional neural networks over basic RGB image datasets (e.g. cats and dogs) and use keras with python to…

Iron rule of tomassi 7 It is always time and effort better spent developing relations with new, fresh, prospective women than it will ever be in attempting to reconstruct a failed relationship. That said if you do go for it, it probably will be a terrible decision but at least you'll learn a lesson from it.

Agree, I've decided to try not drinking for a while and the last two nights out were stone cold sober. They were both great, I found it really helps to be in the right mindset, also get yourself into a social mood by talking to any strangers you can.

Loving the comments on this thread, in my experience festivals are great for meeting lots of 18 - 20 year olds. Trick is to go around talking to every person you see. Here's a game my friend and I played at the last festival we went to, great fun and you can get lots of numbers this way: Go up to someone and say "hey can you get a photo of my friend and I", they say "sure" and ask for your phone to take the photo with. You reply (talk confidently) "oh just use yours". They'll look a bit confused…

If you're feeling like skipping today's session, spend a moment thinking of something that makes you angry, I'm talking hands shaking angry. It'll be the best gym session you've ever had.

I feel your pain, I played it the safe way and have a well paying job as a software engineer. Don't get me wrong I am grateful for all I have, but fuck me I feel like a caged hen. Having spent the last year on self improvement I now have nothing in common with any of my colleagues and I respect very few of them. But back to the point, as with any job you shouldn't quit your current one unless you have a new one already lined up. Tell me if you do make the jump, I'd love to hear how it goes.

Rsd julien has a great video on YouTube all about charisma, essentially it comes down to a combination of pitch, tempo and unpredictability. A great example is always Tyler Durden in fight club, or just watch some ted talks and pay attention to what the do when they talk. Keep in mind the way to talk on stage is different to the way you talk 1 to 1, so don't go overboard. Best advice I can give is to spend time around older guys who are in leadership positions, they're nearly always exceptional …

Bulk first, for like a year straight while focusing on increasing strength for all your core lifts (bench press, shoulder press, deadlift, squat). Make sure you're eating plenty of protein. If you're not getting stronger then you're not eating enough, if you're getting fat then you're eating too much. Strength => Gains After like a year of bulking, then you cut and enjoy the sweet abs.

I know how you feel, it seems common to get dry spells. For me personally a lot of it is in my head, and if I can energise myself then it makes a world of difference. My advice would be to go travel somewhere for a month on your own, stay in hostels, meet people and just focus on enjoying yourself.

I used to get it badly, remove most of the dairy, chocolate, sweets from your diet and it'll clear up. Alcohol also isn't great for it so don't drink more than one night a week.

If you're new to the gym you should bulk up first, skinny guy abs don't count. As for lifts I would suggest just buying more expensive shoes instead, a good pair of Timberland boots will bump you up no problem.

Impressed with your mature acceptance of the past and ownership of your own failures. The gym is the best thing for you now, build yourself into a new man.
