Well, it's true. If we truly consider the sexes equal, then we share the same artificial "shame" of first date sex. Patriarchal society places that shame on the woman, which you can criticize as a feminist ally, and that by having sex, you're not actually shaming her, but celebrating her and her sexuality as a fully realized and capable woman. I think the main point of my post was that you face your fears in an alternative manner, not necessarily jumping off a bridge. For you, heights aren't a problem. You're not actually scared of it. Go do something else that scares you and beat it. :) Props for being able to jump out of a plane that frequently. That's on my bucket list!

Kudos for having the cajones to actually sack up and approach. I deal with debilitating AA myself because my mind races through myriad possibilities of failure. I would have opened with a observation about her ("Excuse me, did you play basketball growing up? You seem like you'd be able to dunk pretty easily."), our mutual surroundings, or seriously just a big smile and a "Hey! How are ya?" (I think most people respond well to a "Hey! I remember watching a Youtube video somewhere that said the best way to deal with last minute resistance is just to stop your sexual advances and literally get up and go do something else that interests you. That's what I've come to realize too. I think a lot of dates get uptight with me because I'm a physician and they feel the need to prove themselves. When I stop caring or have received enough information to make up my mind about them, I'll stop putting on a front and just devolve into the man-child I am.
