I think the consensus I've come to is that when you abandon an organized religion, it is replaced with a disorganized religion. Are you religious? You're essentially quoting Kings and the Story of daniel. While that is definitely true that Babylonian exile of the jews infulenced jewish culture, the judaic myths before 1/2Kings are still considered derived from other religious traditions. Thats how most of the major religions are agreed to have arisen. Judaism borrows extensively from the Epic of Gilgamesh from Mesopatamia, as well as Egyptian theology. Look up the origins of the Torah and Bible, the only people that disagree that the torah was an amalgamation of tribal beliefs are the jews and christians that desperately want to believe it is the direct word of god. Genesis is a merging of two creation stories in one.

Generally yes, we all have the same underlying behaviour. However, religions have been shown to reduce the regularity of these behaviours. There is nothing peer reviewed in the Wikipedia citations. Its all news articles like the Atlantic/NYT etc. The only academic link is to the 'Scientific American", which is not peer reviewed. Its generally very rigorous material, but like the Op-Ed of the science world. The citations I have attached are peer reviewed or in Journals.
