The biggest mistake I see is asking without creating interest. You have to generate interest if it's not already there. If the interest was already there, you could ask her to watch paint dry with you and she'd say yes. Instead of focusing just on asking her out, focus on what you want to do with her. Go see a concert? Go to a brewery? Go bowling? Paint that picture in her head first, tell her you're going and then invite her along. You'll have far better luck than just asking "Hey, wanna go out…

Yes, take her out with the sole intention of getting laid. I'm of the opinion that if the attraction from her to you is not natural or built over time, it's very tough to have a long term relationship with her. Girls will sleep with guys they don't intend to settle down with and vice versa.

If you're trying to game her, the proper response to "just friends" is "haha yeah, I already friend zoned you." to flip the script and change the frame on her but if you want a LTR, then doing as you did is the proper response. The rejection sucks but it's easier than long term pain of hooking up and her not wanting more.

I'm going to add to this. The goal should be more than just her number. It should be a meetup of some kind. A phone full of numbers from girls that won't meet up with you or even one that you are really interested in does you no good. Have an idea of why you are getting her number and make getting the number just a logistic to meet up. Always remember this.

I would find something fun you can do and invite her along. If she bites, you're making progress. If not maybe try again a week later. Still no bite, then put her in the list of people to invite when you host a party with your buddies. Looking from the outside in, it was easier for her to give you her number than say no thanks since she has to see you in math class and it might be awkward. Good response on the boyfriend comment though.

So... the real question here is WHY you're not interested. I see this, "Say your name, compliment and ask them out" all the time and in my opinion, it's not enough to justify a girl handing out her number and meeting up with you. I've actually wondered this myself. I don't understand it myself.... I don't have any pets right now because my schedule is too chaotic to properly care for a pet alone but I thought about putting a picture with my mothers dog in my profile just to see how it affects matches.

I disagree. I think social behaviors and social media have a lot more to play at that than how quickly you go on a first date, second date..etc. I think a lot of marriages are rushed but that's another topic. It's much easier to create a romantic connection at first meet then convert a friendship into a romantic relationship in my opinion.

A little trick I use is to just text her name to her. So if her name is "Sarah" Just send her a text that says " Sarah!! " and let her respond. It won't seem like a cliche and you'll interrupt her thought process by not putting any content in the message.
