If a ticket doesn‘t pay for the expense of the ticket, you‘re doing it wrong. Our prosecutors office is the only government service with a positive balance.

You can definitely stop the idiots from driving too fast. It‘s called law enforcement.

I get that. But why is everybody driving over the speed limit? Either your speed limits are too low or people are just driving way to fast. Obviously I have my answer when I look at how many deaths from traffic accidents the US has compared to the rest of the west.

I get that. But if you have appropriate speed limits, you should also enforce them. Otherwise you can just let it be. Works in Germany.

So if I understand correctly, the speed limits are more of a suggestion? Most accidents that result in death or serious injury are caused by excessive and not appropriate speed, at least in the developed world. I stand by my point: If you can safely drive at a higher speed than the speed limit, the speed limit is wrong and/or completely arbitrary. But hey, obviously I don‘t know anything.

Where I live we have them on almost any highway now. Our traffic laws seem to work quite well, the US has about 6 times more deaths from traffic accidents than we do.

If everybody is just ignoring the speed limits, there might be something wrong with your traffic laws. I am well aware of how dangerous a difference in speed can be. I‘m used to the autobahn with no speed limit at all. But either have a speed limit, or don‘t.

No, I won‘t.

Well I hoped at lesst when it comes to the concept of speed limits, that people would be sane enough to not mess that up.

I do. But I‘m not from the US. That‘s why I‘m so astonished about your weird laws. This just doesn‘t seem safe.

I do, just in country with sensible traffic laws as it seems.

Then the defence is even worse: Everybody was doing something dangerous, that‘s why you can‘5 punish me for doing the same. Just like a child.

I absolutely agree. Safe driving isn‘t just not crashing, but as you said yourself, also avoiding risk to pedestrians. So the „traffic flow“ defence makes even less sense. Either speed limits are there because the road doesn‘t allow faster driving, or the circumstances would make it too dangerous to drive faster (school zones, dangerous turns, etc.). That is exactly what I am saying.

Weird, really weird.

Have you guys heard of speed limits that change according to traffic flow?

Why would the speed limit be 55mph if you can safely drive 75mph?

That‘s mental. „But the others were doing it as well“ is such a Kindergarten defence.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
