I think the idea is that men aren’t acting in unified concert to dissuade women from directly rejecting them, it’s that individual men have a tendency to respond violently to certain stimuli, and we fucking pray that not giving that stimulus is enough to protect us from those consequences. You’re right, there’s no perfect solution, but again, the implication isn’t that men act as a unified whole to terrorize women. It’s that some men have the potential to respond violently to an innocuous reject…

Yeah, but there’s also the ambiguity of ghosting that spares some of the ghosted’s ego- there’s a chance that something completely unrelated happened and made the other person unavailable to date. It’s stupid, but as others have said here, there is actually data substantiating (some) men’s tendency to respond violently to direct refusal. It may not eliminate any chances of the worst case scenario, but the “when women refuse” subreddit pretty empirically seems to show that it doesn’t worsen them.

I mean, women were also by and large disposable chess pieces, they were just expected to perform uncompensated domestic labour for the household while also producing more people for the workforce. But now we’ve “broken away” from being relegated to the private sphere, but we haven’t fixed or even really altered capitalism’s fundamental disregard for labour.

Do… do you think women have benefited from a “general” level of societal care throughout all of history? Because that’s wildly unsubstantiated- i think it’s fair to express frustration with young men’s disenfranchisement being treated as a flash in the pan for political expedience, but come ON. Women weren’t allowed their own credit cards until like 60 years ago. 600 years ago (actually up to the 1800s), our legal existence/property rights as individuals effectively vanished upon marriage. The c…

But… you’re an ostensibly straight guy, and you’re the ONLY ONE fixated on size in this discussion. Actually the only person to mention it at all. And what your (shitty, body shaming) coworkers say is not reflective of every woman’s perspective, and isn’t even in the context of them actually evaluating them as potential matches. They’re just gossiping, in a shitty, body shaming way that you’ve internalized and projected onto every other woman. I promise, you have so many more flaws you can actua…

I’d just argue that what you see people posting about it online and what they’re actually using as standards for dating are two very different things. But I’ve really got no dog in this fight/there’s no amount of attributes that could make me attracted to a man, so I’ll leave you all to this hetero-hell spiral. Sorry for getting involved

But she has, because you guys keep shifting the goal lines to make your point. Her point is that you’re pretending that the traits most women find desirable (I guess money, hair, height & mental health?) are found only in the top 1% of men, ergo most women are hypergamous. Her point is that a much higher percentage of men possess these features, which by definition at least undermines the severity of the accused hypergamy.

Well, also those examples are the subset of the population that talk about/work through their relationship issues on a public Internet forum. So it’s a little bit of a stretch to attribute their behaviour to the entire population. Like the other person said though, I think it makes sense that more/better communication might equal more frequent breakups, but that can absolutely be the healthier option. Relationships form in all sorts of circumstances & lust can blind the best of us, but better to…

Yeah, this part… i don’t think it’s necessary or healthy to externalize your issues onto some outside group that you 1) have no control over and 2) probably very little personal experience with. Also, sexism/misogyny aren’t all that different from the other bigotries, and are kinda what OP was describing? I get that it’s stemming from feeling frustrated/marginalized/incapable of meeting one’s own needs, but as soon as you wash your hands of your own responsibility & say “well, if it weren’t for …

First of all, you hadn’t actually asked that question at the point I responded to your comment; you just said that you felt it wasn’t fun BECAUSE you just feel judged/like you have to be performative & in competition when dating. So yeah, you’re right, you could go out with a robotic AI interface literally coded to adore you, but with that perspective, you’d just resent it for not having to be a conscious being. Women have to deal with being judged by their dates standards too. There’s also the …

Dude, do you hear how you sound like you literally don’t even like women, let alone spending time with them? That kind of resentment is going to shine through until you work through it on your own, and it’ll just screw you with confirmation bias. There are absolutely people out there who would love you for you, but they might get prematurely turned off by the vibe that you seem to think about dating them like it’s a series of brutal, degrading game show tasks. Even if you don’t say it out loud, …

I totally do!!! And sometimes it does seem insincere, especially when it’s consoling an adult over an issue that you wouldn’t feel nearly as strongly about. I try and remember that everyone’s coming into their experiences with a whole life full of context that could justify their responses (at least when it’s just personal emotions- when you lash out at other people, i think it’s a failure of self-regulation), but yeah, I don’t have a solution to that particular problem lol, but I really do agre…

Eh, i think it’s rationally choosing to engage your limbic system, so it is still engaging on an emotional level as opposed to a purely logical or pragmatic response (which to my mind would be saying something like “that bug never knew or cared you existed, why should its death bother you?” or “there’s millions more living ants out there that you could never differentiate from this one tiny corpse”). You’re also using emotional reasoning, even if it is rational- my kid is upset, and in order for…

Can i put forth that feminism (which I don’t use as a pejorative) has largely flourished in America vs other, more authoritarian governments as a result of our principles of free speech/personal liberty? Just cause you disagree with them doesn’t make them “unamerican”

Oh, he won’t, but I’d ignore him- I’m honestly embarrassed i got sucked into an argument with someone with the reading comprehension of a brick. Truly, truly not worth either of our time, but i appreciate your support lol. People like that are self-selecting themselves out of the gene pool anyway, so these comments are really their last desperate shouts in the void.

I’m engaging with you because you’re making unsubstantiated generalized claims that are offensive to & demean/degrade women, which is absolutely the definition of misogynistic. Just because a word is used (or frequently misused) by people doesn’t negate its actual meaning. Also, you, in particular, probably hear that word a lot for good reason. You said that it’s worse for men to have to deal with women’s trauma than the inverse, because they necessarily put forth more effort into attaining the …

You’re speaking in both a very stilted & misogynistic fashion, so your opinion couldn’t be worth less to me. Would just point out that the amount of trauma women have to deal with from red pilled chauvinists like yourself is, to most outside observers, far worse than someone having to care about the emotional well being/history of a person they’re trying to build a life with. Also, as a queer woman, I approached/courted my girlfriend & absolutely plan to provide for & protect her as best I can, …

for god’s sakes, shouldn’t older men with their own baggage & routines/ingrained preferences look for people with commensurate experience, not blank slates who will just… absorb the guy’s shit? What’s the idea there?

Isn’t it kind of by default an unwelcoming attitude towards any newcomers/beginners then? I’ve never really understood when people take themselves so seriously that they won’t even entertain a conversation before you jump some BS hurdles for them.

“perfectly fine, most of the time” is about as high a success rate as you can ask from a precautionary strategy which blankets ~50% of one’s human interactions. idk man, I think you just feel victimized by women who feel afraid.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
