4	US Army general says new recruits are not strong enough to throw grenades As far as I know (I retired in 2012), we still use the same M67 fragmentation grenade that has been in service since the 1970's. My personal opinion is that this whole story is overblown. They stopped requiring grenade qualification because it simply isn't necessary for every Soldier. I guarantee it's still required for Infantry trainees, and they are likely the only Soldiers that will ever be issued grenades anyway. We shipped out guys that couldn't perform a single sit-up, much less throw a 2-3 lb metal ball 25 meters. p.s.
