So if it's the 'wrong' point of view, then it's disallowed, even if there is sufficient evidence, citations of studies/reports? In any other article, for example about wars, controversies are given equal text spacing and then impartial conclusions are made about the validity of both sides' claims by sourcing supporting evidence and academics' verdicts. Why can't the same apply here?

Trying not to be embarrassed or self-concious is the best advice. Personally, I'd talk to personnel and see about making sure we avoided each other, and if I couldn't be civil about it, then I'd get a transfer elsewhere probably. However, were I in OP's boat, I would be able to boast as I was in a better position than his ex, and so it would be no problem.
