When I here opinions as outlandish as the caller I just consider them a total write off. Like something you cant get mad about because it seems so extreme that no one would actually take it seriously and we should all just have a good laugh like it was meant to be a joke in bad taste. Furthermore, I don't think his opinion identifies with any particular group other than deluded moron. I was actually curious to see how he backed up his stance after making a complete contradiction. On one had he s…

Thanks. Personally I think sarcasm shouldn't be used in the serious topics brought about in MR though.

Regardless, I think its a bad way of communicating, especially in text and even with a '/s'. Personally I think sarcasm should just be left out of this whole subreddit all together, the issues here are too serious for it. Sarcasm should be left for more lighthearted discussions. I have been wanting to bring it up in my own posting, but I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to criticism.

I was referring to X chromosome recessive disorders, but yes, that would be true as well however they are a lot more rare. This will help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-linked_recessive_inheritance

I think both sexes can be pushed into anything and it can have a negative, positive or neutral consequence. You'd have to look into that persons specific situation. We don't know if she was pushed or not so CrossHook's post gave me the whole "look, we let a women in and now she's using her degree against us" vibe. I don't believe you can get that far academically as she did and now know something about science and how it works. If she's doing shitty research and studies then it's her own negativ…

Well when I said scientific fact I was only referring to what I said, not the article. Sorry for the confusion. I was only trying to drop irrelevant but on topic knowledge.
/r/MensRights03/04/13 01:54 PM

x-linked recessive disorders being more of negative consequence for men? Where is the disputed hypothesis in this?
/r/MensRights03/04/13 01:07 PM
1

I'm not saying there aren't benefits to having the structure, but it obviously comes with negative consequences as well. There's a lot of reasons things exist in nature and do not die out, something is keeping them around and it's probably a unique benefit. The fact that I got downvoted shows some MR in here get their panties in a bunch when anything presumably "negative" is associated with the male sex. This has nothing to do with the rights of men or viewing them as inferior.
/r/MensRights03/04/13 12:47 PM

This isn't an argument, it's scientific fact. I never though MR would be against something like this. And yes, the birth canal is also a bad design. Human babies are born less mature than other primates just so they can fit their giant heads through the birth canal. Also our spines are a bad 'design' for walking upright.

Personally I don't find my own gross, but generally I find other peoples bodily secretions pretty gross, male or female. Discussion is good when you want to understand what others like you are going through, but why the fuck do I need to see someones period painting?

I realize this article has nothing to do with it. I just try to make use of my formal education, and share where I can. :P

Dat extrapolation.
/r/MensRights03/04/13 05:50 AM

That was my initial reaction. I hear articles all the time about how poorly 'designed' this organ or that bone structure is. If it's scientific fact then it's not sexist, just like how white people are more prone to skin cancer is not racist. However if it's bad science that she has here, and isn't correcting herself due to ulterior biased motives (I haven't investigated it so at this point I don't know, but I have a feeling this is old debunked stuff) then she should be called out.

Carrier, in this case, refers to the female that has a disease gene that is present on one of their X chromosomes but not phenotypically expressed. If a male "carried" the gene he would not be called a carrier, but an affected individual of that disease. The X chromosome is not considered the female gene as it is essential for making a viable male. So yes females are much more capable of carrying an X-linked disease gene through a bloodline, but it is not specifically a female gene.
/r/MensRights03/04/13 05:41 AM
4

Wait, upvotes? How is this not blatant sexism? Is it the word "push" that indicates if you force women into STEM then they will be prone to be sexist or do bad science? I don't get what you're saying here. Edit: Or, you know, just downvote without explanation.
/r/MensRights03/04/13 05:29 AM
1

To be fair, it is a bad 'design' specifically for men when you consider the phenotypic manifestation of x-linked recessive disorders and diseases. It's the reason a higher proportion of males will have colour blindness or hemophilia.

To be honest, I believe there would be a lot less opposition to the practise if it was just about the hood. Inversely if we knew there was a popular level of mgm that involved removing the whole tip there would be a lot more opposition and outrage.

The title makes it seem like he is getting a negative impression of all women just by the actions of some radical feminists. I guess I'm interpreting it wrong?

Oh! Haha thanks. Didn't quite mean it like that. Its more of a jab at my wardrobe. Personally I can show up to a club in a t-shirt, jeans and running shoes and still feel like a.million bucks. If a guy is going to find me attractive it wont matter if I'm wearing heels or steel toe boots.

Funny I have the opposite reaction and preface almost everything with "In my opinion" or "from my experience" because I feel its important to acknowledge exactly what it is. And if challenged on those opinions and happen to to feel justified then I don't care if the other party is offended. Likewise if I can't justify my opinion then I have to admit to that persons offendedness is justified.
/r/MensRights24/03/13 06:09 AM

I understand that, but your experience does not necessarily correlate with a generalized trend. That's why I asked about your facts. We can actually get factual studies in regards to strength.
/r/MensRights24/03/13 05:48 AM

I dress to attract men, there, now you have one against it. But seriously though, I'm not saying your experiences are wrong. But I hate how it often translates into peoples heads as "Most women do x or think x" or "Most men do x or think x." That kind of thinking really irks me.
/r/MensRights24/03/13 05:37 AM

Where are you getting your 'facts' ?
/r/MensRights24/03/13 05:17 AM

I don't understand why your one point of view gets upvotes (no that I'm saying you're wrong) while the woman above you got downvotes even with her larger sample size on her side. I take both your experiences as equally valid and possible and not mutually exclusive. The upvote/downvote difference is what makes me think this subreddit is not all that I hoped it to be.
/r/MensRights24/03/13 05:12 AM

Not that it makes it right but generally people are going to have less sympathy for someone who seemingly did something wrong that landed them in prison in the first place.

What I meant by "trying to make all women out to be man-haters" was you are taking a single behavior and interpreting it as the woman is always afraid of the man, and that the man is viewed as an offender. That just seems harsh, but I apologize my wording wasn't great. Mainly I was just annoyed because you assumed that was my reasoning. On the other hand I totally agree with you that giving a fake number by default is not a very considerate way to deal with the situation. I think one reason migh…

I'm glad you got what I said, but 'case for concern' and possible 'harassment' just seem so harsh. Those things never cross my mind. Really I see it as the equivalent of looking busy and distracted when walking by a street corner solicitor to avoid having to talk to them.
/r/MensRights25/02/13 03:17 AM
4

No it doesn't mean I'm afraid. You literally just made that up. It means no wasn't good enough so I just played along to be left alone. It actually really irks me to think you can just interpret a persons behavior like that as a way to further your view on cultural injustice and 'men being automatically seen as an offenders'. If those things exist then use real proof rather then trying to make all women out to be man-haters based on one single behavior tied to many variables.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand how lowering fitness standards to let women qualify is even classified under "equalism." I'd say its a misnomer to say equalism failed. Someone made a system with a particular agenda and then just called it equalism, and now that the system is failing we are attributing it to equalism failing? That doesn't seem fair.

I think the OP may be narrowing in on the singular case of the male customer that gave the waitress the high five for demanding the gay couple leave whereas there was no negativity shown to the lesbians from the other customers. Regardless, the whole experiment completely fails to back up that men and woman were treated unequally.
/r/MensRights25/02/13 01:56 AM

Both couples got support from the people which also shut down the waitress in both cases, am I missing something?
/r/MensRights24/02/13 11:06 PM

I think I gave out a fake number once and it was due to repeated attempts of me telling him I didn't want to give out my number so I finally said fine so that I could be left alone.

No. I was in an unhealthy relationship for a long time and feeding my sex drive was definitely a contributing factor.

I don't think your experience of both is applicable across the board. It's really a person by person basis and depends on what your job is and how much you hate/love it compared to housekeeping. Throwing child care into the homemaking routine could make the position very unsuitable for some that would rather take the 9-5 routine. Children are a 24 hour commitment.

Products that are marketed towards women that are more expensive than the equally functional and compatable male counterpart are more expensive because women are willing to pay more for shit. It's not ddiscrimination it's marketing. If you are a smart woman with a budjet you will buy the cheaper product regardless of which sex it is trying to be sold to. No one stops me from buying an old spice deoderant stick.

I don't get you op. On one hand you make it out that the original set of ideas are not good lessions to teach a girl, then you make the male 'equivalent' like that one is okay, but the girl one is not. I applaud you for making the male equivalent but your title is just a circlejerk. Like you're willing to dismiss good advice just because its ownly aimed at one sex, then turn around and come here to appease the subreddit by showing how the male version should exist.

I don't see anything wrong with the message, the only problem would be this doesn't acknowledge it could go the other way as well. Men shouldn't put up with women that use them or mistreat them either.

I believe the intent was to instill caution, not hate. The problem being I was way too young to be even thinking about boy girl relationships and the potential of getting hurt (something not limited to one sex). My young brain had no idea what the appropriate response would be to the advise.

Interestingly enough I had my father reinforce a similar mindset, however my reaction was not to be afraid, but more to just be a bitch to them. My mindset being that they only had bad intentions toward me. Keep in mind this was when I was very young. Like kindergarden to grade six. Of course I learned the error of my ways amd started treating everyone with equal courtsey.

It's more than that. Before I came to this subreddit I never even heard of an opposing force for male circumcision. I couldn't feel opposed to something that I never knew people were upset about. As for the female side I can 100% be sure my sexuality would be absolutely devistated with clitoral removal or desensitization. I'm glad this subreddit has opened the male perspective of and the realization that regardless of how much or little effect the foreskin removal may have on an individual males…

I could see your point if you're replying to a specific comment such as "All the men on reddit are jerks and bullies and hate women." But you started your disagreement as a reply to the topic question geared towards how women felt about reddit, as if your separate experience would render any of theirs invalid. I'm not saying some of the women in there don't have their misconceptions, I'm saying your delivery of trying to correct misconceptions was poor. Secondly the question was very broad. Ther…

It could be that a woman is seeking a similar quantity that a man may seek, but is more choosy in that she also seeks quality? Edit: Can I at least get some discussion is my post warrants downvote?

I get the impression that feminist means so many things to so many different people that the word is becoming useless. Telling someone you are/aren't a feminist is going to make different people make wildly different judgements about you before they actually get to know you.
/r/MensRights14/12/12 05:29 AM
1

That was kinda the same impression the article left me with. It wasn't as if they were saying the women was allotting herself more money at her own pleasure. The budget was going toward household bills, taxes, and children, things that are shared.
/r/MensRights14/12/12 04:49 AM
2

Ignoring that downward spiral, you should realize that there is a respectful way to admire someones beauty and a disrespectful way. Even if the sentiment is "I find you attractive" it can be done disrespectfully and cause feelings if disgust, and there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe I didn't see it, but where did the word feminist come up? Not every woman you get in an argument with is a feminist.

/r/MensRights30/11/12 06:15 AM

Maybe that's why I'm not getting this. I only see things from an individualistic perspective. Why use is the statement "You women do not work as hard as us men" to the woman who does have a physically challenging job or dangerous job? On the flip side what use is the statement to the man who does not work hard?

It really would depend on the job and the surrounding situation. Having a five minute private cry shouldn't mean you have to lose a days wages. My initial reaction was to what I believed were the prominent cultural practices in genital cutting. This thread is talking about circumcision which I take to mean removal of the male foreskin. When the term female circumcision is used, it involves alteration of the clitoris, because this to my knowledge is the prominent cultural practice for females. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on my assumptions. To get back to your question, no I do not believe just the removal of the analogous female…
/r/MensRights27/08/12 07:43 PM

I read the link and they showed FGC in 4 classifications depending on the severity of the alteration. ALL of them imply an alteration to the clitoris (I guess type one could potentially be without). But I don't know where you get off saying I'm just picking out the most severe.
/r/MensRights27/08/12 07:07 PM

I was comparing the removal of the female clitoris to the removal of the male foreskin.
/r/MensRights27/08/12 06:51 PM

The two are NOT the same.
/r/MensRights27/08/12 06:12 PM

I'm not saying it can't be an asset. I'm just trying to simplify the issue here; I'm pointing out if the woman acts as if she owns the sperm and claims them to be solely available to her, then she must also agree that the man can make the same claim to her eggs. Abortion brings up the other issue in that it actually involves the woman's body in the development process, therefore a separate issue (asset) and not comparable to sperm donation.
/r/MensRights27/08/12 11:53 AM
2

Personally I use the term not even thinking about the gender specificity just because people know what you mean by it. I guess getting around it would be using "suck it up" "walk it off" or "just deal with it like a grown, mature adult."
/r/MensRights27/08/12 06:08 AM
7

Slapping her hands away or telling her to "fuck off, bitch" probably would have been the appropriate response, but yeah that's fucked up.
/r/MensRights27/08/12 05:59 AM

I don't think that's a fair comparison. Egg donation would be the female equivalent, not abortion.
