That's old school trolling, Pig Man. Says something just to get a reaction, and hits his target perfectly.

Trolling MRAs is getting a little too easy it seems.

That's pretty cool. Men should try it, if they think it might work.

Hey, I like you! You're right, this guy doesn't need you. But yeah, welcome to Fantasy Land, OP.

Indeed.

Fancying much younger women can be crippling socially. I don't judge it, but it's a guaranteed hard time relationship-wise. Not because society thinks it's weird, but because your average 50-something man isn't going to have much luck chasing nubile 20-somethings. I see the pain every day when I see my best friend's complete inability to find a mate, or any relationship not involving cash payments.

What is the double standard? The guy gets 6 months, the women get 9mths, 6mths, house arrest, 4 mths. Looks like the sentences are all individually determined.

A slippery slope to having more women-only hours in gyms? That's not much of a slope. Let them.

A slippery slope to what?

Apparently enough women there care about gender in the gym to want to be able to do it without men there. You may think that's fucked, but so what? Why do you get to decide what women should or shouldn't feel comfortable doing? Stop being so ridiculously offended by people trying to live their lives the way they want to. Stop being so angry that there are people out there who don't want to workout in your company. But give the guy a discount or give him his money back so he can find another gym …

Safe from men, we presume. Which is understandable when we're talking about getting into your gym clothes and working on your body. But I see the guy pays the same as women for the membership, but is excluded for these times. I'll agree... That is unfair, and he should be recompensed. But women-only sessions in a gym... I honestly don't see how anyone could object to the concept. Especially in a private business. And men-only hours too. Who wants the opposite sex around when you're working on yo…

Yes, it's discrimination. Agreed. But yes, as noted, it's not a discrimination I care much about, it being trivial, justified, and largely beneficial. Is there anyone here who can't actually see the sense in a gym having women-only times? I think you guys are in danger of becoming the real SJWs. You certainly talk the language of Social Justice, and without irony.
/r/MensRights07/06/16 06:12 AM
-19

There are reasons that a women-only gym sessions is not comparable to a whites-only session. If you can't figure out those reasons, you're really not trying very hard. And do I give a shit about discrimination against men? Hardly at all. I'm generally amused that mensrights are finally waking up to the fact that discrimination exists.

I am literally just reading the words she wrote. No interpretation required. I don't have to make an "argument", as her words are crystal clear. What is her state of mind? She is scared of men. What request does she make? Please stop saying "Not All Men" to me when I tell you I'm scared. Who does she make that request of? All men. All the other conclusions you make, eg that she blames all men for her fear, are simply not there. But you can fill in any claim you want, and then get angry about it.…

Oh, ok. If you think that's what she was saying, go at her. Your second grade English teacher would be disappointed in your reading comprehension skills, but who cares.

I completely agree. I don't live my life in fear either. But I don't despise those who do.

Yeah, but where does the writer ever say anything remotely analogous to "women are sluts"? What she says is simply "I am scared of men", not "men are aggressive bastards". It's a statement about her, not a statement about men. So if you said "I have difficulty trusting women", that would be a better analogy. And in no way offensive. Frustrating to hear, yes, but not a slur I women, just as this writer was not insulting men. But it seems every man here wants a piece of this woman for what they im…

One of the core beliefs here? What is that belief? Serious question. I love this sub, always have. You guys are always willing to talk, and you don't ban people for disagreeing with you. Some of you do get pretty rude, but I'm surely asking for that. Who wants to just hang around and agree with everyone? As for being constructive, I would have thought coming and disagreeing and talking and arguing was exactly that. Don't you guys like to talk? I know some of you do!
/r/MensRights06/05/16 02:28 PM

No, iBelieve. Read it again. She didn't. But that's ok. You're offended, so she must be to blame. I can understand that. Thanks for the abuse. Catch you later.
/r/MensRights06/05/16 02:17 PM
1

Well, if you're going to just make up stuff she didn't say and criticise her on that basis, I guess there's not much point carrying on. If you want to be offended by something you imagine she said, go for it.
/r/MensRights06/05/16 01:44 PM
1

No, she literally didn't. Not as dumb as some.
/r/MensRights06/05/16 01:18 PM
-4

No, sounds horrible, for obvious historical and cultural reasons. Reasons that simply do not apply to women talking about men. Men are on top, men have the power, the physical muscle, the money. If a woman says she is intimidated by men, just suck it up. It's not a slur on your character.
/r/MensRights06/05/16 01:07 PM
0

Except that she doesn't say that men are dangerous. She only says that some men are creepy, and that she is therefore scared of men. There is no unfair generalisation. There's not any generalisation at all. Like I was bitten by a dog when I was little, and now I'm scared of dogs. It's no reflection on dogs, it's just my fear. Just stop telling me that your dog is really friendly because that doesn't help at all - it simply demonstrates your lack of understanding, your lack of care.
/r/MensRights06/05/16 12:54 PM
2

I see you complaining. I'm not blind ;-) Honestly, if your response to someone who says they are afraid is to say they are probably making it up, then it's no wonder there are women who find men frightening.
/r/MensRights06/05/16 09:06 AM
-1

Let's see. We have two people here. The first says she is scared and intimidated. The second says she is taking bullshit, and it's offensive that she says she's scared. Now, which of those people deserves empathy? Which of those people deserves to be listened to? Have I misrepresented the choice here?
/r/MensRights06/05/16 06:27 AM
-13

Yeah, but it's not about black men, a group suffering systemic disadvantage. It's about men, a group enjoying systemic advantage. You can't just swap asymmetrical roles in a scenario and then say "See! Look how weird that would be. The original scenario is therefore bullshit!" Sometimes you just have to understand that people out there have feelings, rational or otherwise, and listen to them, instead of whining about how unfair it is. This writer is not saying that you or any particular man is a…

Yeah, you've lost me. I missed the Official Letter crap, but nothing else there bothers me at all. It's just a summation of the current reality, ie lots of women are scared of men, due to the behaviour of some significant number of men. What's controversial there? Your "man up" attitude is ironic, no?
/r/MensRights06/05/16 04:38 AM

Seems pretty fucking reasonable to me. Obviously it's an exaggeration to say "every girl", but apart from that, what could any man object to??
/r/MensRights06/05/16 02:48 AM

Yeah, no problem here. Once she started abusing you, your responsibility was over, unless she was hurt and freaked out.

Your selective disgust is intriguing. Trying to make this into a free speech argument is just piss weak. These guys behaved atrociously. They might face repercussions for it. Maybe they'll think once next time before acting like animals.

"Think about it. Do something about it." Always loved that album.
/r/MensRights13/04/16 03:20 AM

They can't? I guess you're not in favour of free speech then. Hey, have you noticed that there are two parties in this story? One group chants disgusting songs of sexual violence - disgusting rehearsed songs, and the other complains about the first. And you choose to see the complainants as the bad guys. "Men's rights" should not mean that anything men do is right. These men did wrong, and these women are completely right to voice their disgust however they choose.
/r/MensRights12/04/16 11:15 PM
1

I love this model of free speech you support. Where men are free to chant sexually aggressive songs and women are not free to complain. It works out so beautifully.
/r/MensRights12/04/16 08:19 PM
1

Free speech implies freedom from consequences? Who cares if people are intimidated? I guess we have nothing to talk about. Good on those boys for behaving terribly. Let's hope they get away with it.
/r/MensRights12/04/16 05:47 AM
1

I'm not for free speech without consequences. If these guys freely spoke and were intimidating women in a public place, I'm not going to be supportive of them at all. Let the complaint be heard by their frat, and let action be taken or not taken. No free speech issue here.
/r/MensRights12/04/16 03:40 AM
1

In Australia the "college" is the "frat", ie a boarding house for students attending the university. These women are seeking action from the boarding house, not from the university. As for the rest of what you say, I completely disagree ;-)
/r/MensRights12/04/16 03:27 AM

Well, I've found some of the lyrics. They seem to warrant a mild official complaint. Not sure what "appropriate action" would be. Possibly "Guys, this is not a good look for the frat. Please try and display a better image of us to the world." “I wish that all the ladies/Were little red foxes/And if I were a hunter/I’d shoot them in their boxes I wish that all the ladies/Were buns in the oven/And if I were a baker/I’d cream them by the dozen I wish that all the ladies/Were holes in the road/And i…

Here are the video, and some of the lyrics. Seems to be at least worthy of a complaint. “I wish that all the ladies/Were little red foxes/And if I were a hunter/I’d shoot them in their boxes I wish that all the ladies/Were buns in the oven/And if I were a baker/I’d cream them by the dozen I wish that all the ladies/Were holes in the road/And if I was a dump truck/I’d fill them with my load.” Read more at http://junkee.com/unsw-student-bodies-condemning-college-students-caught-glorifying-acts-rap…

I didn't mean I find you impatient ;-) I just mean that we need to hear the details before deciding that the women are out of line. I'm all for free speech to, but that wouldn't necessarily extend to giving a free pass to a substantial group of drunk men on public transport singing offensive songs. That could be a pretty intimidating situation. Now I have no idea if that was the case here. I'm keen to find out, especially since I'm very familiar with that university.
/r/MensRights12/04/16 01:51 AM
-1

Well, I trust the frat is looking forward to explaining the men's behaviour, and showing that the women's reaction is unjustified. That any action taken will in fact be appropriate. I just don't understand why you have read one side of the case, just a summary, not the whole case, lacking any detail, and you have decided on this basis that the complaint is unwarranted. Without that detail, you simply have no way of judging. You need patience, it seems.
/r/MensRights11/04/16 11:48 PM
1

All I see is a media release without context. I don't see anything over the top in the slightest. It's a public complaint about public behaviour. I'd like to know more, but there's nothing here that would suggest this is an outrageous action on the Collective's part. I'm sure the whole campus knows what was being sung.
/r/MensRights11/04/16 09:41 PM

Did I miss the part where they are treating this like rape? They're just publicising some ugly behaviour and calling the college guys on it. Seems pretty non-controversial.

Fighting terrible ideas, pointing out wrongs... It still sounds like fighting for Social Justice to me. I don't have a problem with Social Justice Warriors, but MRAs' use of the term as an insult seems a little ironic. It seems you are all very much Social Justice Warriors. And good luck to you for that.

You may be right. My point is only that these figures do not suggest any preferential treatment of women in these companies.

Of course it is. But these numbers suggest that men are receiving the preferential treatment. Unless I don't understand how numbers work. These figures need to be explained if we want to maintain that women are being given preference. Other commenters here have suggested that the unexpected preponderance of men at the top in these figures is due to the remnants of 70s and 80s executives, while all the newer executives are female. That might be true, but you can't see it in these figures. So this…
/r/MensRights08/03/16 05:30 AM

I'm just reading the figures, which are clear and obvious. More women at the bottom. More men at the top. Contrary to OP's intent.
/r/MensRights08/03/16 03:58 AM

I don't know. If you supply figures that look like men are getting ahead better than women, don't expect your audience to understand that those figures are concealing the situation you are trying to highlight.
/r/MensRights08/03/16 01:25 AM

Oh ok, it just looked like your claim wasn't borne out by the statistics shown. Need more figures on the age breakdown, I think.

I don't understand. These companies have around 50% female employees, but substantially less than 50% as you progress up the ladder. Looks like the men in these companies are getting ahead.

Heya, no, I didn't come here expecting froth, and hate for women. I expected a different perspective than the mainstream, and that's what I got. I also expected a complete lack of empathy for the woman who posted, and that's what I got too. A woman says she is scared every day, and you offer "evidence and logic". Not one hint of human compassion. And that's all fine - you guys have your own barrow to push, your own stories. Thanks for taking the time to write.
/r/MensRights24/02/16 10:38 PM

Hey, no worries. I don't need to post here if you guys don't enjoy it. Some of us like a little disagreement online. And may I congratulate you on your word count? Wagnerian! See you, and thanks.
/r/MensRights23/02/16 04:22 AM
-7

That's me! Yeah, if someone tells me they feel intimidated, I listen and I believe them. It's a good starting point for understanding. This has nothing to do with whether she is justified in feeling intimidated, or what the men's motives are. It's just a Fact about how she is feeling. You know... if an ant spoke up and asked you to please step around it and not squish it, you'd probably listen. But if a woman asks you to leave her alone because she's irrational and intimidated, you say Hell No.
/r/MensRights23/02/16 04:12 AM
-3

Truly, you are well named, Turbulent! If someone tells you that your friendly greeting makes them uncomfortable, you protest, and continue with the friendly greetings. Only now, that greeting isn't actually friendly anymore, is it? It's defiant, provocative. But if you don't give a damn what someone else feels, then that is that, and there's no more to be said. Carry on being "friendly".
/r/MensRights23/02/16 04:02 AM

Ahh, my apologies. It was not night, but a sunny day. And yes, you're right, only a feeble-minded woman could possibly be intimidated by strangers on a sunny day. You are quite right to dismiss her feelings and support those who similarly dismiss them.

/r/MensRights23/02/16 03:09 AM

Just treat everyone with consideration. Empathising with someone of the opposite sex is a genuine challenge, but it's essential to try. Generalisations about the impossibility of pleasing a woman are kind of anti-empathy.
/r/MensRights23/02/16 02:40 AM
-11

Such a cop-out. Here's a clue. Many women want less attention from men when out walking alone. This woman posting is telling you straight up.
/r/MensRights23/02/16 02:28 AM
-7

Being constantly approached, as most any woman is in a western society, is just plain stressful. Even if all the guys are just being friendly. Their friendliness is causing her distress. She's telling you in this post, but do you want to listen, or do you want to pick holes in her feelings?
/r/MensRights23/02/16 02:18 AM
-5

If someone feels harassed by your waving, do you honestly not care? Do you consider that you are the 40th guy to wave at her that day, and that it is a constant in-her-face phenomenon? Do you argue the point, or do continue to wave and cause her concern, or do you listen to her concern and stop waving?
/r/MensRights23/02/16 01:46 AM
-6

You could just treat them the way they ask to be treated. This woman wants men to stop waving and calling to her. That seems to be a pretty common wish from normal, everyday women.
/r/MensRights23/02/16 01:36 AM
-9

No, not satire. Just a typical woman's experience of life. The "nice" thing to do when you see a woman you don't know waking alone is... leave her alone. Getting waved at, shouted at, and worse, multiple times, every day, is what women get. From the individual guy's perspective, he is just being friendly. From the woman's perspective, he is yet one more guy who just won't leave her be. Again. The fact that you find this post annoying, instead of it making you ponder... makes me ponder.

It's terrible that you've been abused, that I cannot deny. But hate it or not, I think the marketplace of ideas, memetic evolution, etc, is how the world works, and you've got to find a way to live in it. That word mansplaining would not exist, would not be used, if it did not serve a purpose. I suspect that you and I would believe that the word serves different purposes. I will agree with you that it's a shitty word. Clumsiest word I ever did see. Dicksplaining would be much better. I'd support that, and it's largely gender-neutral. It seems that if someone sees a problem with the way men talk to women and makes up a word for it and it catches on, then that's exactly how language and culture should work. It's a marketplace of ideas, and that idea's time has apparently come. If you want to combat that idea, you need to find a better one.

Sometimes it seems that all you need to do to troll someone is to post a sane and reasonable comment on someone's irate post. My apologies for suggesting that men are dicks often enough for it to be reflected in the language.

Come on, Stu. Make up a word, and we'll see if we can get it going out in the world. Sounds like there's a need for it. You know, because women talking down to men is out of control.

I think I'd call it condescending and rude. Thrown under a bus? Wow, that mansplaining word must hurt, dear. Howzabout you make up your own word for when a woman is horrible to you and see if it catches on?

You're a sweet talker. I've misjudged you, it seems.

No, did something I said suggest it was an exclusively male trait? Only mostly a male trait. My experience coincides with hers, I'm afraid.

Honestly, I've seen this kind of talk from men to women, and I don't IRL hear men talking to men like that. It's intent may be nice, but that doesn't stop it from being condescending and offensive. Horrible word for a bit of male boorishness.

Well, if my infamous daughter's opinion counts at all, it's a much needed word for a frequent and hated phenomenon. But she could be nuts. Probably is.

Well, if Australians were using the words nigger and raghead, I dare say they might have. So I don't see why you think they aren't reflecting usage. In this case, they surely are. But it is an ugly ugly word, often misused. Perhaps it was needed, if its popularity can be used as evidence, but I'd be happy to never hear it again. And am I a feminist? Only in the literal sense, not in the Steinem sense ;-)

It's a word that gets used a lot in Australia. An ugly word, and often wrongly used, but a popular word. I've got no complaints about the dictionary's decision.

You could be a feminist without accepting patriarch theory, but then it would probably have no effect on your behaviour, as you'd be satisfied that equality was already here. If women had historically been on top, I'm sure that feminism would exist, but it would likely have another name. Same philosophy, though, ie that there are specific gender-related power imbalances that need to be re-balanced. I dunno. I'm just speaking off the top of my head!

Just remember: Publishers don't ban books. Schools ban books.

It's obviously not a "ban", but definitely annoying. I guess that's the power of the market. Would we have it any other way?

I'm sure feminism is unfalsifiable, and that's fine, inasmuch as it's not a theory but an aspiration. Sure, there is a lot of related academic theory, and that is philosophically troublesome, because the social sciences are notoriously unsusceptible to falsification. But that largely relates to their status as true science, rather than their inherent truth. Still, my suspicion is that feminism, as it is lived and understood by most feminists, is far removed from academic feminist theory. I imagi…

You lost me a little at "it's insane to demand quotas". Hyperbolic language just widens the rift. It's clearly not insane, though it is highly questionable. What is needed if there is ever to be a meeting of minds is clear, honest language. As for the rest, I largely agree, but we differ in that I don't reject feminism because of what some feminists do or advocate, any more than I would reject Christianity or atheism or MRA or whatever.

But feminists who advocate affirmative action, quotas over 50%, etc, still don't explicitly argue that women should have the superior place in society. They explicitly want equality and promote affirmative action as a way to redress the perceived current balance against women. Without necessarily agreeing with this policy, I'm sure that they are nevertheless explicitly talking about attaining equality, the standard definition. That's simple irony in their position, ie to achieve equality they ad…

I'm pretty sure they all use the same definition of feminism. Does any feminist explicitly admit to wanting superior treatment? Every feminist, I'm sure, openly supports equality. But the way they act upon that, the policies and conclusions that they draw from it... there's a million different ways. You guys have obviously thought long and hard about this, and I'm just making this up as I go, but I'm not persuaded that there's anything sinister going on in feminism. Thanks for being friendly, th…

Oh, I'm sure most believe in the historical oppression of women. I think that one's near universally accepted out in the world. But your point about policy makers is interesting. Not many in real positions of power yet, but it's coming.

I'm sure there are feminists who follow, but I'm sceptical that the numbers who are religious about it are in any way significant. I could well be wrong, but I'm pretty confident that 99+% of those identifying as feminist simply align themselves with the simple dictionary definition, and have no interest or sympathy with doctrine and dogma.

The truth is, nobody speaks for feminism, though there are certainly feminists with influence. They're not dictators, though. They can't say any old rubbish and have every feminist on the planet follow along. It's not a religion.

Oh sure, if a crazy person has influence. But generally, a crazy person loses influence in proportion to their craziness. There's counterexamples, obviously. Kim JU is in power, he's important. Gloria S is what? A has been? No need to get riled up about something dumb she says.

I think the truth of the story here is: Once-great pioneer of feminism says something stupid. Feminists around the world look embarrassed and try to ignore her out of respect for her standing. (We do this now most every time Germaine Greer opens her mouth)
/r/MensRights09/02/16 05:43 AM

Sure. But to clarify, I'm not saying Steinem is not a feminist. I'm sure she is. I'm just saying that she does not define what feminism is. She is a lot of things apart from a feminist, including weird and angry, by the sound of things. But if you are concerned with feminism, as practised and advocated by Steinem, then I am not. I doubt that Steinem's ideas in this regard are shared by anything more than a tiny minority of those who would otherwise identify as feminist.
/r/MensRights09/02/16 05:40 AM

I disagree. Feminism is well-defined. Gloria Steinem or Germaine Greer don't represent feminism any more than Richard Dawkins represents atheism or Mel Gibson represents Catholicism. By all means, let's be disturbed that there are people out there who share Steinem's opinion on this matter, but let's not conflate that opinion with feminism. That would be a logical fallacy, ie Gloria was a pioneering feminist. Gloria is crazy. Therefore all feminism is crazy. I guess I'm just trying to say... Who…

I think I can confidently state that there is NO significant group of feminists maintaining that women only support Sanders to impress men. And to the extent that there are any feminists that actually believe such a thing, I think we can happily reject their views as ridiculous. Those views are not representative of "Feminism", although there may exist feminists who hold such views. The conclusion that feminism is a fraud is thus unwarranted, no matter how crazy some individuals' views may be. A…
