That's cool and it sounds like we agree. It's the exact same bullshit tactic that is being used by the opponents of GamerGate, find one negative thing said by some tangentially connected idiot, and use it to smear multitudes of people. Oh, by witness, do you mean the accuser? Yes, the accuser should absolutely have to testify and be cross-examined, as in any other crime. I thought you were suggesting a need for a third-party witness.

I probably worded that poorly; I wasn't implying that we should seek to maintain a certain rate, just that the witness requirement is IMO one that is arbitrary, unnecessary, and likely to cause more harm than good (if any good at all). proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt So then, do you think that this requires a witness 100.00% of the time?

No, which is why IMO we should be seeking more than just that for conclusive evidence. But that's another discussion. While you bring up a very valid point, fact is that requiring an witness is a burden so high that an unacceptably small portion of actual rapes would be successfully prosecuted (we do mostly/all agree that actual rapes [however we define that] should be prosecuted, right?). Plus, people's memories aren't that great and people also lie, so are witnesses even that great in the firs…

How else would one prove an accusation or rape? Well it happens all the time in Western nations without witnesses so maybe look into that (try starting with "rape kits").

The middle eastern feminist doesn't have it as bad as she claims, either. They're oppressed but so are the men in their societies. To be fair, I think the relative levels of oppression between sexes do have a significant difference between them. Women in some of these places have to cover everything but their eyes while in public, can't be in public without a male chaperone, can't drive, etc. Sure, life sucks for the men too, but I'd wager it sucks even more for the women.
