You can't just necessarily trust people on their word. An easy mind-hack for this is to think of the bar as a party. I mean, it pretty much is. People are there to drink and have a good time. So most people won't mind it if you just introduce yourself and start talking. Of course, some people will think you're creepy, but that happens at parties too. So don't worry about those people.
