This is outstanding advice and should be higher. You can be strategic without being underhanded and build a framework of action with mutually agreed timelines all while laying the groundwork for your own best interests in the background. Hope for better, plan for worse. Set clear, logical boundaries and stick to them without drama.

You can’t possibly diagnose someone as having any type of addiction from the information presented here. Nor are you likely qualified to diagnose addiction either.

Make sure the ex doesn’t try and slip an AirTag into something else: shoe, hat, wallet, toy, backpack, etc. If you rebuff one tracking device, she might get pissed and try and circumvent your decision

Does this apply to a conspicuously carried or worn camera while you’re in your own home? Or even in public if conspicuous?

That sounds like what we need to do here. In some way it would take the financial issues out of the equation for us. If our relationship is to prosper it should be about our relationship. Not money. My wife has a solid career, makes good money, so it’s not like it’s unbalanced or whatever. I just don’t want to get screwed.

Did she have her own attorney? Or you both used the same one?

I’m in a similar situation now. We came to the brink of divorce, but have reconciled. But the divorce scared me regarding finances. I’m older than her and make more money, and would be looking at retirement sooner. I don’t want to end up working at a fast food restaurant until I’m 75. So how did the postnump go?

Hm. Ok, that does clarify. So I guess I’ll say this: If the trajectory is moving you guys ahead in a good way, therapy is working, fewer and less dramatic fights, then imagine that continuing and ultimately settling into a good relationship. If that happens, do you still want to be in that good relationship WITH HER? If even after this improvement, you still prefer your imagined future in a different relationship, lifestyle or situation, then accept that and have the ‘we should split up’ convers…

You said she’s a good woman. But this sounds like you actually think she’s a jerk. And you said therapy has allowed you two to live in relative harmony. But sounds like you’re both actually miserable. I’m confused.

I mean, are we taking stale bruschetta here, or like fresh made avocado egg rolls?
