If you make more than her, you could be paying her for the rest of your life.

Could be helpful to others to avoid a similar path. Also, the way he wrote his post suggests that "she does this, she does that" rather than "I let her do this, I let her do that."

How did you ever let it get to the point where another person controls your income and your time?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paragraph A paragraph (from the Ancient Greek παράγραφος paragraphos, "to write beside" or "written beside") is a self-contained unit of a discourse in writing dealing with a particular point or idea. A paragraph consists of one or more sentences.[1] Though not required by the syntax of any language, paragraphs are usually an expected part of formal writing, used to organize longer prose.

To be clear, I'm not person who experienced this. I just made the cross-post when I read the OP.

I don't understand what the problem is. A retainer fee is how lawyers bill. You will get back whatever they don't spend. They're asking for a $5,000 retainer because that's on the low end of what they're likely to spend on a divorce case. If they spend less, you get a refund. If they spend more, you pay more.

Lawyer up. Divorce with a big alimony and child support settlement for you. Raise your kids on your wife's paycheck. That's pretty much it. That's what any woman would do if the situation were reversed (regarding income and child care.)

I'm amused that you made it this far in life and thought family courts were fair to men.

I believe his point is that he can't cut her off. The courts will force him to keep paying her for decades to come.

I can't quite parse this. Specifically "a fine ass light skin or not in school" -- is there a missing comma? Is it supposed to be "a fine ass, light skin, or not in school"? Let's assume that's what's intended. Then the expression is NOT AT LEAST (6'0 OR bag OR chocolate OR fine ass OR light skin OR (NOT in school)) So I only need to be one of those things, right?

I’m not really sure what you’re asking. Why on earth are you still within 500 feet of this person much less married to them?

No such recourse exists. There is lots of recourse for her to collect if she’s not getting paid, but none for him if she’s blowing it on whatever. Look it up.

What? The child support goes in her bank account and she can spend in any absolutely any way she wants, including on a new boyfriend, a trip to Paris, or a spa day.

/r/MensRights22/09/18 12:56 PM

Hmm, yes. If you include "imprisonment in a cage" as a "decision about a male body": - Income tax - Alimony - Child support - Drug war - Military draft - Business regulations ... just off the top of my head.

You can’t. If you so much as date a woman for a long enough time you’re at risk. The best you can do is be completely celibate and document it. If you can’t live like that, then date around and if it gets serious, lawyer up right away and get lots of paperwork done. Kids and it’s over for you.
/r/MensRights14/08/18 08:28 PM

I see. Well you are at least making that choice then. You do have options and you’re choosing the better of the two. Admittedly both options suck.
/r/MensRights14/08/18 07:04 PM

That’s rough. I’m cohabiting with a prenup of sorts that took months for two teams of lawyers to draft. No kids and no plans and a seemingly great girl. But I still worry about this sort of indentured servitude. It’s insane. I’m not sure how to ask this without seeming like I’m somehow suggesting it because I am most definitely not, but have you considered drastic measures like fleeing the country?

There was a guy here claiming alimony didn’t even exist anymore just yesterday. How much are you forced to pay? Sorry about your situation. Wish I could help. Other men: don’t get married!
/r/MensRights14/08/18 06:34 PM

Things may be different in your state. But it is still very much a thing in many places. I don’t have the data immediately in front of me but if you’re interested in men’s rights I suggest you dig into it.
/r/MensRights13/08/18 10:47 PM

You have to pay 1 year for every two years of marriage. Typically if you’re married for more than 20 years you have to pay her for ever.

Alimony? “Ex wife” (child) support? Custody? MeToo unfounded harassment claims? You’re missing some really big items on your list.

I guess it just sounds exhausting. There seem to be a very large army of people committed to posting fake "outrage" on social media, going to protests, disrupting talks, censoring speech, etc. Why are most of these people socialists? Why have I not noticed other groups with a similar commitment to those strategies?
/r/MensRights30/07/18 09:11 PM

I've noticed this as well. What do you think it is about the socialist/feminist philosophy that makes it so subversive?

I'm witnessing this now with a friend. He seems to be very willingly choosing it, though. He has to ask permission to do anything. He also immediately drops whatever he's doing if asked. He has basically zero time for himself between work, wife, kid. Yet he seems pretty jolly.

I would hope as a community of intelligent and rational men, we could avoid up-voting such meaningless platitudes as "be strong, love strong".

So I agree that the crazies are a minority. But they’re so powerful they prevent any honest discussion in my workplace. So I don’t have these conversations there to begin with.
/r/MensRights23/06/18 02:29 AM

If it was only the media, I would ignore it. It's in my workplace. It's in universities. It's everywhere.
/r/MensRights22/06/18 09:01 PM

So I agree with you in principle-- calling out specific instances of things is unscientific. We should be looking at statistics and using logic. But this emotional, story-driven narrative is extremely effective and it's why the radical left is winning. Could we choose not to use the most effective tool in our opponent's arsenal? Yes. But it may result in us losing the war. Frankly, I've watched libertarians lose constantly for a decade now for similar reasons. "Think of the children you monster!…
/r/MensRights22/06/18 07:44 PM

Agreed that it's not _solely_ what it means. But the feminists do this constantly -- "look at big bad man X who did evil thing Y to this beautiful helpless perfect princess." The intent of these posts is to say, "actually, lots of people are evil and do bad things; it's not a gender-specific issue. For example, here's a big bad woman."

Thank you but I don’t see it that way. It’s gotten to a point where I literally can’t stand it that men are treated this way. So it’s selfish for me because I need to feel like I’m helping defend us.
