But that's not how society works. Pouring an ounce of water on someone's head doesn't justify any response whatsoever because she did a dumb prank as a teenager. If this girl got seriously injured, the response isn't "well I guess you shouldn't have poured an oz of water on someone's head." Consequences have to fit the action and every civilized society has laws based around "reasonableness."

That's not true. The teacher could be fired by the school but it isn't a criminal offense. By your logic where would it end? You don't see college professors getting charged for having sex with 18+ students. Or a boss in the workplace getting charged because they have "power" over the other person.

You can't be serious. You're comparing people in the top .01% of the financial elite to the normal population. It's definitely a very gray area and I think the courts need to figure out what's reasonable fun and what's malicious. There's a significant difference between making up a name at a bar and assuming a fake persona online for extended periods for the sole purpose of deceiving people to engage with you romantically or sexually. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out going forward.

There's a big difference between some kind of deception charge and rape. If I picked up some chick at the bar and had sex with her and she turned out to be a transexual, can I press charged for rape? This has lot of bad implications. This can open up a big can of worms where people might as well fill out a consent form before having sex.

Agreed. Maybe there needs to be some type of catfishing law put into effect, because there's definitely a moral issue there and plenty of people end up victims of such things (as naive as they may be). The offenders are very often being malicious in intent. But a rape charge in these circumstances is ridiculous.

Oh, I'm not denying it's an advantage. 95% of the people you would have physical encounter with in public have little to no fighting experience. At that point it comes down to size, strength, athleticism, speed, etc. Knowing nothing else, I would take a 5'10 190 lb athletic guy over a 6'4 avg to out of shape guy.
