Irks me to no end when someone discussing men's issues will toss in the disclaimer -"these things happen to women too" - like no shit. Everyone knows that. If the genders were reversed one would catch endless amounts of shit for saying that men experience these problems too, in a conversation about women's issues. It's invalidating, trivalising, and unnecessary. It reaffirms that the simple acknowledgement if men's issues is so against the pale that mentioning them without including women is for…

Outside of my family- no. Not ever. Not once. My male freinds have always been the first to show up when I needed to vent, always listened, always tried to help. While I'm sure there were some awkward moments when I, or anyone else got overly emotional, there was never any shaming, or attempts to shut it down. There were always activities to distract, excuses to drag someone out of the house, and a couch to crash on.

Yes. Many years ago I had an ex reframe her violence toward me after the police got involved. In the first instance, she got violent (again) in public, I ran away and managed to get home and lock her out ( we did not live together) she tried to break in. I called the cops. They arrested me. The second time, she tried to smash my head in with a hockey stick. When I was unresponsive, she called an ambulance. She told the police I hit her first. They took my unconscious body to jail. The third time…

I have to disagree a bit. I doubt the professor is ever going to change thier mind. They're far too entrenched, and I suspect far too high on thier pedestal to even consider evidence presented by a lowly student. The other students on the other hand... I think it was a good move to not only call out the professors missleading information, as well as sight the studies actual conclusions. Maybe OPs classmates will remember that this professor lied to them, tried to shove a biased opinion on them d…

I used to play a game where I'd read an article from a feminist website, and blank out the male and female identifiers. It became harder and harder to tell if I was reading something published this decade, or from late 1930s Germany. This game became very unfun very fast.

The stance here is pretty clear. Rape = bad. That it. That's the position. That's all. The issue arises because society, the legal system, and a certain ideology with massive systemic power don't seem to agree that all rape is equally bad. Men legally cannot pursue rape charges against a rapist who is a woman, unless said woman penetraed them with something. The vast narrative around coercive rape, or date rape only apply to women. And this blatantly ignores the fact that women rape men at nearl…

Men have fought for services, it's just lambasted as secist misogyny when they do. The common reply I've gotten is that "there is only so much funding to go around, and women need it more. So anyone fighting to increase funding for men's services is doing so at the explicit reduction in services for women, which are already too low." There have been several attempts to expand services for men, most notably Erin Pizzey, who was run out of the feminist movement, faced bomb and death threats for tr…

I was there once. An ex used fake pregnancy scares and lied to the cops that I was hitting her as a means of control over me. She threated she'd do worse if I left. When I did finally leave she did. She had been slowly telling these same lies to most of our social circle for most of our time together, all the while telling me they were just shitty friends for not returning my calls. When it was over she upped the ante and told people I'd forced myself on her. The reality was the roles were rever…

When people bring this up to me, I disagree. Men are NOT taught to supress thier emotions. We are CONDITIONED to. By simple negative feedback loops from the people we are supposed to trust and be vulnerable with. Our mothers first, our partners and in our relationships.

Agreed. It's really just fucking nice to have a show that does even the bare minimum to portray a positive father figure in a kids show (or any show, really) I am hard pressed to think of any tv show in the last 40 years that had a positive dad figure in almost any capacity. My spouse and I had more than a few conversations about why I didn't like our kid watching more than a few shows. She didn't quite understand why it was a big deal for me. It amazes me how people will readily proclaim that r…

I would whole heartily agree, if not for two things: If this is the definition of "clumsy teenage fumbling" - unwanted touching, even innocuously, should result in a good telling off. IF this were even remotely being applied equally across the board. It's not. Boys are more harshly ostracized or down right vilified, while the female counterparts are rarely even reprimanded. Boys recieve much harsher that what we agree should be the proper corrective action, while girls receive hardly any at all.…

I, for the most part, agree with you. I agree that there was a patriarchal system in place, for a good long while. But while it was orchestrated by men, it was structured around the protection and provision of women. Not entirely for thier benefit, but absolutely at the detriment of /most/ men. Even taking historical context shows that our (western) society was not deliberately structured to the exclusive benefit of men at the exclusive expense of women. The term patriarchy is used as a cudgel -…

Im 5'6, and I learned real fast growing up to keep my head on a swivel, make note of exits, suspicious cars and people. How to tell if I'm being followed, and what to do about it. It's hard not to laugh when feminists tell me I don't have to worry about walking alone at night. Yes, yes I do. I've been mugged, I've been jumped, I've had a knife and a gun pulled on me. Men are raised to make thier safety thier own responsibility, whereas most women seem to think thier safety is everyone else's res…

I have been trying to frame my thinking of this in the positive. In a way, this has opened a door ( a very very small door) to make a push for an enumerated right of bodily autonomy. Recognition of a person's inaliable right of bodily autonomy would immediately ban the draft, outlaw prison labor, make infant circumcision illegal, and yes, permit abortion. I think if a push was made. It would have pretty healthy bi partisan support, right up until someone let's it slips to the feminist machine th…

I've had a variation of this conversation with my spouse a few times after our daughter was born. I'm coming to the realization ( now a few months sober ) that having more and more shoveled on to my plate contributed much more to my drinking than I thought. Why is it an argument that I'll take a 30m shit on Saturday. Its the only goddamned peace and quiet ill get all week. Yes I leave for work at 5am, and yes I get there at 530 and sit in my car for half an hour. I need that time for myself, and…

What irks me is the narrative around games and comic books. I see things constantly pontificating on "women are in gaming now, deal with it!" I know they are. I'm happy they are. I've wanted more women to be in to gaming since the early 90s. It wasn't us lonely gamers gatekeeping the hobby, it was (gasp) other women. But haven't forbid you point that out. Same story for comics. And the general.narative hasn't changed much, despite gaming being widely socially accepted. When I was growing up, if …

A while ago I shared a story on another sub, it was the troubles I had trying to get a vasectomy. Basically, I tried for two years with no avail. As a 40 year old married man with a kid, I thought it would be straightforward. It was ONLY when I told the doctor that a accidental pregnancy would pose a significant health risk to my spouse that they agreed to perform the procedure. So your Comment about "what do the rest of uget out of it" really hits home for me. I can't even exercise anotonomy ov…

I am not a woman, but I considered myself a feminist until the massive shortcomings of the movement slapped me in the face. I thought VAWA were great, until I needed to seek a shelter to escape a violent woman. There were none that would take me because I was a man. When I called the cops because my then girlfriend was trying to break into my house, I was arrested. When I called and asked for resources as a man trapped in a relationship with an abusive women, the only offering was a group sessio…

I got snipped in July 2022. The actual procedure and recovery weren't that bad. Trying to get a doctor to do it was a 2 year process of constant rejection. I am 40, have 1 kid, and absolutely do not want any more. I had two doctors refuse just because they thought I'd change my mind. Planned parenthood does not offer these services for men I'm my area. The local med school required my spouse be present for the initial consultation, and provide her written concent on the procedure. ( which she wo…

If your concern is how you label yourself for others, maybe you should just stop labeling yourself. People are not so easily sorted into neat predefined little containers. Applying performance labels is just asking to be gernalized and pre judged by those who'd rather not take the time to get to actually know you as a human. If pressed on If I am a feminist - or conventional social group/philosophy - will answer with something akin to: "I dont like labels. I'd rather you observe my actions and h…

I'm so sorry this happened to you brother. I was lucky enough to avoid jail - if only because my ex was more interested in drugs than giving a consistent statement. Our relationship was entirely predicated on her using fake pregnancy scares and threats of false allegations rape or violence intermingled between her violent outbursts - for which I was arrested, but never charged. She'd recant her statement if I agreed to stay with her. I never so much as laid a finger on her in anger. Not once. At…

I agree. It can start long before college. The problem is EXCEMPLIFIED because it is taught in colleges. It is endorsed, pushed and codified. No other hateful attitudes but this one. It is 'the right kind of hate'
/r/MensRights22/10/22 01:09 AM

Nah man, I don't believe people are born hateful. Hate has to be taught. It's got to be conditioned and fed and given room to sprout. Outright, unreasoned, irrational hate needs a seed be planted. Racism, like misardry has a root within every person spewing its rhetoric. Sometimes it's what parents teach, or demonstrate. Sometimes it's leason learned 'the hard way', and sometimes it's your required college credit.

While I agree with most of the points you ate making, I'd like to point out one more thing. People don't just end up at a radFem ideology because of bad experiences. It is the codified doctrine of higher learning. It is ACTIVELY pushed in colleges. Dissent raised is summarily shut down and dissenters punished. Women are purposefully blinded to thier own privillage while thier grievances given space on every platform. The result you are seeing are not the fringe outliers, it is the stated goal of…

Having a newborn is hard. From my own experience I can say there is a dramatic shift that can result in a 'loss of self' She may feel disconnected because she feels like she spends her entire day working for kiddo, the house, the marriage, and not for herself. So she sees the time you put in for your own mental health as a privillage she is not entitled to. And where most people would look to carve a niche for themselves, she has opted to strip your 'me time' because if she can't have any, neith…

First, he's likely stronger than me so that would be though. I would need to restrain him and maybe drug him. Then getting him hard, might need to get pills for that. not at all. Firstly, because a man knows that if he strikes you he is 100% going to jail, even if in self defense. If your victim is someone known to you, you share a social circle, threats of blackmail or accusations of SA will likely be all you need. Hell, even if it's a complete stranger - saying something like " come with me an…

This is my opinion, and can't be taken as a representation of this sub, or men as a whole. I believe very firmly in individual rights to bodily autonomy. I hope one day this can be recognized by an ammendment to the US constitution. As this would pertain to abortion : I believe women should have the ability to get an abortion up to the point of fetal viability outside the womb (20-22 weeks) I do not think a father should have a say in a women's choice to abortion or not. I believe that fathers s…

I guess my story started 20 years ago. I got suckered in to a really bad relationship. She was abusive. Physically, mentally, sexually. Picture perfect BPD. I took me a year to get free from her. All the while when I tried to reach out for help, first to friends - I was either laughed at, told I musted have wanted it, or accused of being abusive myself. Obviously no woman simply starts a fight without being provoked, right. One by one these freinds all ghosted me. The ex did play a part in that …

Look, under any other conditions, this would be instantly recognized for what it is - abuse. Reverse your roles and imagine any woman staying with a man who openly - and to jer face - says that he hates women. Imagine if the two of you were of different ethnicities and it was being said about your skin color. Stop selling yourself short because society tells you it's okay to shit on men. It's not. She does need therapy. But that's for a professional, and not for you. Without it, her abuse is ver…

Yeah I can. 20 years ago I was with a woman who just didn't understand boundaries. She'd get violent if I said no. She'd wait for me to be asleep if I was too tired, and if I didn't just let jer have her way, she'd threaten to call the cops and tell them the roles were revered. So I just stopped saying no. For the better part of a year, I'd just lay there and wait for her to get tired or fake it. Years later I worked at a big box store, and one of the shift leads became almost notorious amongst …

Others here have done a pretty good job of describing the impetus. ShortFatOtaku on you tube did I really good series helping expose some of the corruption that got uprooted as a result. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkq5lqVabDjx6GPntyxiCvQaeZ5GSOX3P I'm sure there's an archive outthere somewhere, InternetAristocrat had a series called Quinspiricy Theory that, while a little brash, and certainly overly edgy, documented the early days of GG

The best thing you can do for the men in your life: Listen. Do not reframe thier experiences against women. (Refered to as women worst-ing) Most discussions are railroaded of in to the realm of "yes, but women have it worst becase...." - don't do that. Mainstream culture has lied to you and insisted that no matter what, women have it worst in any given scenario, and that men are universally at fault for it. Let the men around you have a place to express thier hardships without diminishing thier …

If feminisim the movement acted in accordance with feminisim the definition, we'd all be feminists. The lack of parity between the two has yielded this as the result. And based on your replies in this thread, it seems to me that you thing that the broader femi ist movement itself is, in fact , not feminist. So I ask you, where does the disconnect for most self identified feminists occur?

Yep. Man abuses woman - that man is garbage, burn him down. Woman abuses man - that man must have been abusing her so much for her to finally stand up for herself and fight back, that man is garbage, burn him down.

Yeah. The number one response I got when talking about my physically abusive ex was, "what did you do?!" Implying that because I am a man, I must have deserved it. Even the clinical social worker. Even the first therapist. Even my mom.
