Do I remove STBX from my health insurance immediately? Also somewhat unrelated but it might be worth chatting with your lawyer about cutting costs and overall strategy. I did this and my ex did the opposite and was then able to claim I had more spare money to give to her (which she needed because her expenses were so high) so for me I feel I got a little fucked by trying to not overspend during the separation. | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/02/24 04:53 PM
Do I remove STBX from my health insurance immediately?I'm not a lawyer so check with them but I'd tread carefully. From my understanding, If you are still married then you share any debt incurred by either of you unless the judge decides otherwise so I would think very carefully if you want to trust her to get it setup right and have good enough coverage. You might be able to fight it in court but if you drop her health insurance before you get divorced and then she gets in a car accident or something that ends up with huge medical bills then you m… | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/02/24 02:59 PM
Question on alimonyThere is a formula for this in CO that you could try to get a ballpark. Keep in mind this is very different per state and your income levels are too high for the formula but it gets close to what I ended up owing despite being above the income limits. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/23 03:50 PM
Question on alimonyAround half of my unvested stock was split in my divorce and I had to pay alimony. Vested is always split and from what I can tell unvested is usually split too as well. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/23 03:46 PM
Question for men who were barred from entering their own homes/left overnight with no support & don't know how to cook - like meWhat kind of food do you like and what style cooking come naturally to you if any? I'd also say the issues while cooking and your preferences should drive what you have in the kitchen. I love Asian food so my main daily pan is a wok but that would be useless if you only like say South American food or pasta. A large pot is great if you like pasta but not that useful if you never make really saucy things or pasta. Etc etc. Basics of equipment start with: - chopping board + knife set (don't go cra… | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/12/23 03:33 PM
How do you mentally cope with paying alimony?I was married for 7 years, have no kids and am paying over 4k/month even though I'm currently out of work. Don't assume it won't happen to you and talk to your lawyer about it | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/07/23 09:08 AM
Let's be honest here. No macho answers, and no judgement. In reality, how many guys here would be happy to get validation from your ex that the divorce was not your fault?Earlier I would have enjoyed it a lot. I may still get some small satisfaction out of her admitting some fault now but mostly I just don't care what she thinks anymore. I'm happy with someone else and other than the fact that I'm unemployed but owe her 4k/month I've moved on and done with her | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/07/23 08:53 AM
Will Divorce Damage Our Kids?My parents divorced when I was very young. I never knew them together and don't have any conscious memories of the divorce. I feel my brother and I had it much better than some of my other friends because of that. It was just always our normal. I think it's important however to not openly hate or bad mouth each other once it's all done. Just move on and at least to the kids stay classy about the ex. The way I see it either you stay together and be miserable which seems to be the worst possible o… | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/05/23 02:12 PM
Should I sign Quit Claim? How come you need to use a different institution? (Context is I'm about to start doing these transfers for my ex and I) | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/04/23 02:10 PM
I think my wife wants legal separation with some BS divorce "delay" due to an affair.Speak to your lawyer about the money from your mom. Legal costs might be marital expenses (they are in CO) and so your stbx should be paying half in the end | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/03/23 02:57 PM
Finances after a divorceI'm not sure about the process in the UK but from my experience I would recommend being very careful and conservative about the timeline. My ex has been finding any way she can delay possible and using that to drag shit out. My original estimated end to all this was about 5 months ago now | /r/Divorce_Men | 01/02/23 06:50 PM
little pick me up?I'm still early on but I've already started to have some good moments start to come back. Simple things like truly feeling peaceful at the top of a mountain after my hike, I went to get dinner at a bar and ended up chatting to two nice ladies for 2 hours instead of being at home alone, I got sick of only having a slow charger for my car at home so I installed a fast charger today which was a nice little win, i have a weekly hiking tradition with friends which I always look forward to, cooking me… | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/08/22 04:02 AM
I lost the desire to live.Hey mate, hang in there. Therapy will hurt and feel difficult but it has made a big difference for me. Just having someone looking out for you and having your best interests at heart has helped me from spiraling. I'd highly recommend getting a good lawyer too. You didn't mention where you were from but I'm my state in the US lawyers costs are paid by the joint assets unless a judge says otherwise (I'm not a lawyer but this is my understanding). Do you have any friends nearby that you can ask for… | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/07/22 08:54 PM
Is it worth it?I didn't see you mention if you'd already tired this but is she open to couples therapy? They can help you guys either figure out what it would take to reconcile that trust or help determine that it isn't reconcilable and how to deal with that and maybe make the terrible process a little easier for both of you. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/07/22 01:27 AM
Ex wife keeps trying to remortgage during financial settlement hearing.I honestly have nothing to add that will actually help but holy shit this seems like such a terrible experience. I'm sorry you have to go through this and I really hope it doesn't drag out too much longer so you can start to rebuild unencumbered or at least less encumbered | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/07/22 01:34 PM
