The red pill in the matrix was an opportunity to escape from. A false reality. As a dude if all you wanted from life was a wife and kids, and then you're shown that women just really don't experience love as you do. Maybe you even start seeing evidence of it. But now there is no place to escape to. Just an uncomfortable truth to drown in. And the kicker as in the matrix is no one else notices. Worse they may even actively insult you or else prattle off what you're sure are lies.
