No, that isn't what I meant, and I haven't seen any indication that this guy isn't sincere. And, if he were a troll, perhaps a better tactic would be the old mantra "don't feed the trolls."

Something that helps our inquisitive friend find an answer to their question and doesn't further the mindset that the Men's Rights Movement is built on hostility and exclusivity.

Even if he's serious, there's really no point in shaming him. All that can do is solidify the opinion.

Well yah, because that was the major question of his original post: "so I ask, what does your group do in terms of LGBTIQ activism/what do you positions do you hold on these issues?"

I'm going to be honest, I have no idea if your comment is supposed to be facetious or not.

As an aside, sorry for all the bullshit that's getting hurled at you in this thread :/

That's very helpful.

At least for me specifically, I haven't chosen a side, and I have no plans to. I mean, what would I gain from it other than potentially a more closed-minded perspective? I align with neither side; it's all a case-by-case basis.

Ah, that's good to know. So should I delete my comment?

Is she just referring to feeling degraded by men? If that's the case, using the word "rape" for the pathos appeal is a totally bullshit tactic.

I can't tell how many levels of irony this comment is steeped in.

The point about how men are told not to complain about not meeting societal expectations, I think, is very important. We don't verbalize our problems as often because being told not to verbalize them is one of our biggest problems.

...the ease with which you could make the opposing statement is enough to show how closed-minded this is. "Things are rough all over."

Yes, but you know the truly ironic part: it was only because the previous generation of my family practiced circumcision that my non-circumcision was a problem. No one had ever told this kid how to properly clean underneath his foreskin because his father had never had to. It got inflamed, but not infected, so we consulted doctors who helped out. Long story short though, now that I know how to clean properly, it never causes any issues whatsoever, and I have much respect for my parents and their…

I'd argue no. I'm a guy, and I expect I'm probably pretty far on the left-wing of the political spectrum (fuck the U.S. democratic party though), and I doubt I would have taken any legitimate notice of the MRM if I'd seen it as "another one of those organizations that's just pandering to the right."

Intelligence is way too broad of a term to use like this, if you ask me. There are so many different forms of cognitive understanding and reasoning with so many different pros and cons.

As much fun as it can be to point out hypocrisy, I feel like this is one of those things we, ourselves, need to take agency over.

Seems fine to me if they wear shorts, but guys are going to notice...
/r/MensRights03/04/14 08:24 PM

When you put it that way, I think I do see what you're saying. If I'm interpreting you correctly, it's not that you think we should be "OK" with the inappropriate, but rather that punishing it isn't really going to fix anything, and we should instead use the events as a way to teach the students so that when they mature, they won't act that way. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I can certainly see merit in it. Is that in the ballpark of what you meant?
/r/MensRights03/04/14 01:19 PM

I'm with you up 'til the touching part. I recognize that, given the right parameters, pretty much any circumstance is possible, but I think for the vast majority of cases, keeping yourself from actually touching another person inappropriately is an entirely reasonable demand. But hey, if I'm wrong, whether I want to believe it won't change the truth, so feel free to defend your view point. I'm honestly all ears.

I'm sorry if my comment came across as that; it wasn't meant to. I do actually believe whole-heartedly that boys should be taught to respect women from a young age (and, of course, vice-versa). It's rather that I don't see inherent disrespect in following (what I'm pretty sure but could be wrong is) the biological instinct of gazing over the body of someone of the opposite sex. I don't mean to say, though, that I think it's just fine and dandy for guys to be staring constantly at women. Rather, …

I'm upvoting this simply on the grounds that posts like this generate positive discussion whether or not I agree with them.

So lots of people are going to look at some womens' butts... that's pretty much all this is going to accomplish... alrighty then.
/r/MensRights03/04/14 12:35 AM

People really don't seem to get that being distracted by "bum-hugging clothing" (aka: obvious body contours) is pretty strongly built into biology. You (especially) can't "teach" newly adolescent boys to just not be distracted by that—at least, not without going to much further lengths than minor dress code stuff. I'm all for not blaming the victim when it comes to rape, but when it comes to boys looking at girls...

Interesting. This certainly needs to be discussed on a social level (though I think we all know these issues do), but I'm not sure exactly what can be done about this. It's terrible that people are willing to verbally coerce someone into sex, but what exactly does "verbal" mean? Because I've been annoyed into doing things before, and though I'd rather it didn't happen, I wouldn't say verbal coercion is anything near physical force. Just a thought, I'm looking for useful feedback.

I saw that picture earlier today and was kinda disheartened by it. I was wondering if it was rigged somehow, but I never thought it would have been this bad. I imagine so many of those male "yes"es were 2s. Thank you for pointing all of this out.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
