It isn’t broken, it was built that way: i.e. in a premodern/evolutionary context, we likely had polygynous culture where the clan leader etc would have several wives. Western culture adopted monogamous marriage since at least the times of ancient Rome, presumably because of the social ills that arise from polygyny. 18	CA DCR to release up to 45% of female prison population...may consider giving males the same deal in the future. Isn't releasing an equal number as arbitrary as releasing all men or all women? E.g. I'll bet there are more male than female offenders in the prisons, so equality would in some sense still under-represent men. In health insurance, some states have implemented "pure community rating" which mandates that there be no discrimination based on gender or age - that a given policy cost the same to all comers. The result is that young healthy people pay far more their risks indicate would be worth paying.
