If you have some prior experience and know what you're doing, absolutely try that first. For people who don't know what to say, taking action without learning content is like blowing into a cello. That doesn't seem to be your problem though.

You can never see her again AND avoid hurting her feelings. Apparently she feels a little guilty about it, so a simple "don't worry about it" might make her feel better. It doesn't affect your life if you're never going to see her again, so all you'd be doing is making the world a slightly happier place.

The problem with that opener is attractive girls are going to be getting a lot of stuff like that at an anime convention. That probably won't stand out much.

I'm no expert on anime conventions, but what the stereotypes tell me is there are going to be a lot of guys there, many of them needy, and relatively few attractive girls. You really need to stand out with odds like that. Whatever everyone else is going to be doing around attractive girls there, DO NOT DO THAT. Also, almost everyone there is going to have extensive knowledge of anime culture, so you're going to have to demonstrate higher value in a different way. Sharing the common of interest o…
