Actually, hoist is correct. Shakespeare's phrase, "hoist with his own petard," is an idiom that means "to be harmed by one's own plan to harm someone else" or "to fall into one's own trap", implying that one could be lifted (blown) upward by one's own bomb, or in other words, be foiled by one's own plan.

Dear self-entitled moron, You missed your window. I've moved on, and no longer have any desire for your used-up, STD infested, gaping vagina. I applaud your success in your sexual endeavours. I genuinely hope you enjoyed them. For they were the peak of your sexual career. From now on, you will only be able to attract those you deem "beneath you". Have fun with that. Sincerely, Former Nice Guy

I hope you realise that not a single man that worked in a factory at that time could vote either. How about we discuss the men that fought in WWI? They couldn't vote, but were required to sacrifice their lives. Honestly, women got the vote like five years (or less) after men did in most places. Yes, yes, I know. Only men could vote for a long, long time. But it wasn't all men. It was strictly limited to land-owners. And there weren't exactly a lot of them.

This is a fairly complex set of questions. First, you need to define for yourself what 'your way' actually is. You might choose to continue to have sexual encounters with women. You might choose to pursue relationships on your terms. You might choose celibacy. You might choose ghosting. Whichever of these (or anything inbetween) you choose, you will face a different level of 'loneliness'. I should point out that, for myself, loneliness is defined as the extent to which you crave the company of o…

This may not be what you want to hear, but it's probably better that they don't "care". If they have no emotional involvement, they can give useful advice. Empathy is something to be sought from your friends and family. Help is something that one seeks from professionals. Both are necessary. Just don't make the mistake of looking for one of them from the wrong scource. On another note, know that all of us (even we non-americans) are grateful for what you have done. If you have needed to do thing…

I will add a qualifier to this. Therapy is not always the best option. It very much dependes on the personality of the person in question. To be clear, therapy IS usually the best option in this sort of situation. My take on this topic is based on the death of a parent, rather than divorce. Obviously there will be some differences. My mother died when I was 8. Within six months my Dad had decided that he, myself, and my four siblings should attend family counselling. This did not work (at least …

Wow, just fuckin..... wow. I'm glad you're Ok now, man. I really, really am. I'm also glad that your children are no longer in that environment. Fuckin kudos for being as strong as you needed to be. I don't know if I could have done it. On the other hand, this is fairly terrifying. If this can happen to this sort of man, it could far more easily happen to any of the rest of us. To quote the movie 'Wargames', "the only winning move is not to play".

This is just a guess, but I would say that switching custody every other week would be bad for the child. I mean, a kid needs a sense of permanence, right? Also, given the option, I would have gone with having custody during the week. That way, you get to instill in your child what you consider to be proper morals. You get to teach them how to be a good, successful, person. Anyone who is ONLY after the 'fun times' is probably going to be a shitty parent. You're right, I think, in the idea that s…

Um, no. If it has already happened, this is pretty good evidence that you don't realise that what you are doing is making you a greater target. Pointing that out would, in that case, probably be helpful. Yes, it would probably make you feel worse. But we're not all here to make each other feel good all the time. Home truths usually make us feel bad. That's a part of life. I might also point out that I did, in fact, preface that by advocating sympathy and support. It IS possible to be sympathetic…

"Men don't take these precautions to not get raped" True. However, there are a multitude of behaviour modifications men have to take on in order to avoid physical harm. From knowing which person not to make eye-contact with, to somehow knowing which person wants you to cross the street to avoid walking behind them. Do not pretend that only women are in danger of physical harm. In fact, a man is FAR more likely than a woman to be the victim of assault. We all are forced to deal with reality. Shou…

You are deliberately missing the point. If you are a victim of a crime, you have sympathy and support. If you make yourself more vulnerable to being a victim of a crime, you are still a victim. You still deserve (and will receive) sympathy and support. However, others are justified in pointing out to you that you could have acted to minimise the likelihood of you becoming a victim. Now, here's the important bit. They are NOT blaming you. They are using hindsight. They are using logic. They are l…

Regarding the questions asking if 'x' os okay, of course it is. Seriously, you don't need anybody's permission to choose your own life path. As far as feelings of loneliness go, you might want to explore the question of why you feel the need to be in a relationship. Do you feel less valid as a person if you are single? Is it merely learned behaviour? Ask yourself why you feel this way. A family? Unless you are an orphan, you DO have a family (BTW if you ARE an orphan, I offer a complete and utte…

tl;dr You are shit, and are now her perpetual slave. Also, to those pointing out that this was written by two men.... no. This was written by two ex-men. They used to be men, but then they chose to abandon all self-esteem, and suck up to their wives/overlords. Thankfully, this article is not true of most cases. Really, most people aren't that stupid.

Sure, if you consider 1% as more. Honestly, it was extremely rare for someone to 'move up a class'. Also, if the guy upped his class status, he upped his wife's as well. And that meant more good things to her than it did to him. Please, look at both sides of the bargain before you make judgement. This applies to all the instances you quoted in your earlier post as well. The 'agency', 'allowed' to men, almost always just meant greater responsibility.

As partial as I am to automatically taking the man's side, I have to question this story. Apparently, he asked for the mother and child to switch seats, so that his seat would not be kicked. This raises a question. Was the seat next to him unoccupied? If so, why couldn't he just shift one place to the side? If not, how does he justify inflicting the seat-kicking on another innocent passenger? Based purely on what we know, I think that this case is far more complicated than we have been made awar…

I see what you did there. If you don't like it, go to other subs. If there is something that you feel needs to be said, say it. We're listening. Just be open to dissent. If you can't do that, you're no longer considered as a person with a valid opinion. Please refer all future issues to Richard Nixon's arsehole. The point that you are missing is that this proposal is only directed at countries in which prostitution is currently legal. In your country, it is already criminalised (that's what illegal means).
/r/MensRights05/12/12 02:04 PM

I really think that you're missing the point. What you are describing is, obviously, a shitty situation. It should be avoided. But what you are forgetting is that this is the situation of sex workers in countries that are under-regulated. That criminalise prostitution, making sure that only criminals are in charge. What this proposal would accomplish is this (and only this): the reduction of all sex workers in the EU to the aforementioned state. No person with a conscience wants that. Let's be h…

Yeah, that means regulating it. Not criminilising it. Which means that this is possibly the worst solution in terms of protecting these women. By all means, please, ensure that people working in this industry have good working conditions. But also understand that making it so that only criminals are running it, gaurantees that conditions will be terrible. AND, that the sex-slave trade has a viable customer base. That is the opposite of what we should want. EDIT: Spelling

What ^ said. Being taken for a ride by a gold-digger nutjob is something, I would have thought, with which we can all sympathise. It sucks no matter who you are. Sure, I'll admit the fact that it happened to a woman in this case DID inspire a fair case of shadenfreude, but remember that this is behaviour that we want stamped out entirely. Not just because men are almost always the victim of it, but because it is unjust.

The crux of the matter was mentioned in the article, "they are put off by worries that the adult-child contact was a 'legal minefield'." Until women stop assuming that all men are (by default) rapists, men will avoid putting themselves in an arena which opens them up to false accusations.

I like to think that this is the mindset of most feminists (indeed that has been true of all the avowed feminists I have met). Feminism (actual feminism, not the kind we see from atheism+) and MRA are allies, not foes. Both sides need to take steps to weed out the extremists (and make no mistake, we have our extremists). If this is even mildly successful we can have open and honest discourse. That would be the best step towards true equality. And after all, isn't true equality what we're really …

False. The age of consent in Australia is only 16 if the other party is within two years age difference. As regards the case stated by OP, under Australian law he is guilty of statutory rape.
/r/MensRights11/11/12 04:50 PM

Simple. You apply the same test of evidence that applies to every other case. You assume the accused to be innocent until proved guilty. You require evidence for every claim made by either side. In short, you treat it like any other accusation. That being said, if a court detirmines that you (and this is an important caveat) 'maliciously' made a false accusation, you should be treated as if you had actually committed said crime. Sentencing would then give you a real sense of what you had attempt…

While I'm more than willing to add my voice to this chorus of others in condemning this judge for a lot of what's gone on here, I must respectfully dissent on the question of making public the specifics of the abuse. The documentation of the abuse should, and must, be an integral part of any custody hearing. But it should NOT be made public. Let's think for a minute about the long-term effect it would have on the children. 20 years from now, do you think that they would want people to be able to…
