Yes, during the medieval and the renaissance period the clothing you wore was very important and showed your social class. slaves wouldn't really have any clothes except bare essentials. Peasants and the lower class were stuck with basic clothes. Merchants and guild masters wore clothes that showed their higher status, lords would wear complex clothes with embroidery. You can thank Queen Victoria I for that. She had a big movement of taking masculine things and making them feminine. This includes the colour pink. High heels were originally used by knights on horseback as it helped with riding.
