This is not entirely true. DeBeers doesn’t have a monopoly any longer. Their operating margin hovers around 10-20% so it actually costs them a considerable amount of money to mine, cut, grade, distribute the stones. Where you get ripped off is at the jewlery store in the mall, who tend to have almost double the prices of buying online. This leads to disappointment when trying to resell (and good prices for those shopping at the pawn store).

Not that low. They pay 10-25% of what you paid for the piece of jewlery, which is multiple times the value of the gold the piece contains as a commodity. They pay usually around 70% of the value of the gold.

That’s interesting. I think you’re right. I have seen a lot of videos on reddit about the police in America, and I understand that people are sceptic of the police and that some non-white races flat out fear the police force. The police often seems to escalate instead of deescalate and instill hostility and fear instead of acting calmly and professionally with difficult people.

I mean I haven’t in-depth analyzed the video, but to me it seems that she is unarmed. She could be hiding a weapen if that is what you are suggesting, but that shouldn’t be assumed by the officer when deciding whether to taze or not.

Probably going to get downvoted for this but I don’t agree with everyone saying that the tazing was justified. The woman clearly wasn’t a threat. Resisting arrest? Yes. Wrong about her rights? Yes. A direct threat to the safety of the cop? Not really. She wasn’t armed, she wasn’t charging at the cop, she was simply loudly making it known that she will not get out of the vehicle. In my country police can only taze direct threats, and I don’t see a reason here why tazing should be justified in any…

Wonder what that sign said.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
