I would've said I was happily married and meant it. It's hard to admit to one's self that you have, in fact, wasted your entire life on a horrible, abusive woman. The gaslighting, the getting just enough affection to give you hope, and the rest of the manipulation is extremely effective when it's being done to someone who truly believes that they're doing the right thing and it's worth it. There are happy marriages too, but the numbers don't lie, most of them are just waiting for their turn to f…

She doesn't want to talk about the new relationship. Soon, embarrassment will turn to anger so that she doesn't have to be the bad guy in her own head. Lawyer up and move forward. She's gone. This is unfortunately a very common pattern these days.

You're probably going to get sick of hearing it, but here it goes. It will get better. One way or another. Work on yourself, exercise, do therapy. The money will come, you'll figure it out. You already figured it out once. Second, FUCKING FIGHT!! Fight for your kids, fight for your stuff, fight for your freedom. We're men, We're strong, we can be brutish. Find the energy and the courage to FIGHT! Therapy to get your mind right, exercise to get the body right and make your balls start working aga…

My situation might be different than yours on that. The job I lost was kinda shit anyway and I always had other options. I ended up catching my commercial drivers license before it got downgraded due to health issues. I got cleared to drive two weeks before they downgraded it. I killed two birds with one stone there-a place to sleep and good income. The first six months were BRUTAL. I don't type this to put you off. I was blissfully ignorant of my mental health issues for the first two months, b…

I second this. My entire life fell apart in two years culminating in the separation. After a breakdown and some much needed therapy I'm building myself, and my life, into something I never dreamed possible before. My STBXW is pissed about how fast I've not only recovered, but thrived in the past year. That's one way how I know I'm doing it right. I'm truly happy for the first time ever.

All kidding and fucking with you aside, just bring it up in therapy, dude. She's a professional and everyone on this planet has some biases. If she's any good at her job she likely already knows about any latent bigotry you didn't notice anyway, if that's even the case, which that probably isn't the case.

I'm not falling for that one. You just keep doing you.

Terrible advise. I'm planning on using this as entertainment for the rest of the day, possibly all week.

I already told mine that I was prepared to be miserable for the rest of my life with her, and we'll see our 50th anniversary before I give her a penny more than I absolutely have to.

I stopped about 1/4 of the way through that insanely long paragraph and knew she was fucking around. She's already moved on, you should do the same

Perfectly normal. After 23 years of marriage I was confident I could please A woman. If It is something casual, who cares? Get that rebound done. If it's someone you're interested in, there's no harm in telling her the situation. It does sound like you're not ready yet. Get your head together and focus on yourself for a bit. The rest will fall into place.

Painfully rare, but well worth the wait. Edit to add: AVAILABLE good women are rare. Good women are everywhere, they're just not the ones who throw their partners away like trash.

I'm pretty uneducated and blue collar. Since I've been back in the pool, I've dated a woman with a doctorate, and a teacher with a master's degree. The right ones don't care.

I'm doing very well now. Thank you for asking. I had an amazing therapist and I left the house last August. I met a truly wonderful woman and things are going great. (I'm still scared shitless of marriage though) It's so easy to stay in that situation. I felt duty bound and after a while, the abuse was just part of my life and largely ignored. I hadn't realized the damage until I underwent lots of therapy. I endured for 23 years and loved her for it. At 26, your son has his whole life ahead of h…

God bless you for this post ma'am. You describe my STBX to a tee, and along with other things in my life, I also suffered from mental illness after the separation. Self isolating is part of the diseased mind. I should add, this is good info for older men as well. I'm had your son got away before she stole his life away. She would've too, trust me.

Yeah, I was unavailable to the point I purposefully went after married women, because they weren't looking for a husband. I'm damn lucky I never caught anything and there very well could be a twenty-something, or two, running around looking like me. Pre 9/11 world was awesome! my ex was number 4 and got pissed like she was girl number one when she found out. She NEEDED me after that. I started at it again after separation, but honestly, it felt so hollow. I'm just not that guy anymore, power to …

I had mad game back in the day. I'm still a younger looking 44, tall, muscular, i make a good living. I don't care for casual BS and don't want their stupid games these days, so it's a no-go most of the time. Good riddance, the garbage takes itself out😂

I have no reason to not trust this one. I was there for what changed it. I won't wait forever, but I'll wait a while for her. My ex was VERY manipulative about sex, and transactional. I'm not getting any of the red flags here. I honestly don't even push for it much because she absolutely would do it for me, but I would rather she be all in. Edit to add: Don't take this the wrong way, but you should live for yourself for a while. By all means, get laid or whatever, but you seem to be carrying som…

She's going through some shit, so our sex life isn't great, but that should be temporary. There's trauma and trust issues, which I also have, as does everyone who's single in thier 40s. Honestly, this is by far the healthiest relationship I've ever been in by a long shot. We talk everything out, we don't hold shit in. We've been dating several months and haven't even come close to a fight. So, the lack of sex fucking sucks but it's not a deal breaker with her. Sex was never an issue with my stbx…

I was off the market for a very long time. It didn't take long trying online dating to see that most women want the fuck boys to finally treat them right. They can't say that because there's accountability involved. They never want what they have, even if it's exactly what they wanted. I'm with one of the good ones currently, but there's still issues. They are just livable issues.

Keep your head up, brother. Exercise, therapy and a dog worked for me, your mileage may vary. The loneliness was unbearable at times, and got cured when I wasn't necessarily looking for a relationship. You gotta find what works for you. Whatever you do, do it for yourself. We often forget our own needs as men and divorce can, and does, give us an amazing opportunity to find out who we are as people, as opposed to what we have to offer others. Find your value, the rest will fall into place.

I got myself a puppy to get over her wanting our dogs. Now she doesn't want our dogs. Oh well, I miss my pups way more than her anyway. Still winning.

Two years ago, my trucking business collapsed. I have some disabilities so odd jobs that didn't pay real well were all I could find. A little over a year ago, my little brother committed suicide. After that, my other business started flourishing and things were looking okay, but I did have a health scare. By that point, my wife of 23 years got her first real job in 12 years and decided she had used me for all I was worth, found something better, and was done. Just like that. My entire life got p…

Get a lawyer and study the behaviors of honey badgers. If you have an attorney early on and can reasonably defend against a honey badger, you'll be alright. More than likely, your dynamic is going to change for the worst and it's not predictable.
