IG needs to be brought in and a court martial should have been requested. Keep in mind though, we as junior enlisted rarely get to see the whole picture. I always enjoy it when I hear the argument "you can't judge her on her past!" Let's follow that logic then. Do we stop judging people for being sexual predators? You don't need to idolize your family. But you're a fool if you think you can't learn anything from them. Whether it's general life skills, wisdom, or something else chances are there is something to be gained.
