You have to carry your comrade over a wall/ ledge to get to suitable cover. Not being able to quickly do that, or not being able to do that as fast or faster than your enemies can chase you will cause more death. War isn't about standards, it's about competition. In a mixed group if you gotta climb a high wall, it is more likely that the women will be slower and unable to climb as well as the men thus slowing down the team. On the battlefield, every single second counts. It was new media technologies that brought the realities of war closer than ever before seen, added the intense guerilla warfare that was also pretty new, most wars up til then had been dealt with on lines, not what I call spheres of influence.
