The way I dealt with this was to have "the bowl". The bowl was a bowl by the door with various items that females left in the house. I wouldn't point out what the bowl was for unless it was asked. If I or they found an item laying around, I took it and put it in the bowl.

The weird thing is that I'm not miserable. I'm completely fine with where I am now. There doesn't need to be a grand purpose in my life, because I know that I am not great, and it doesn't bother me.
