Australia is an entire continent. This video makes me want to burn down that particular news studio, sure, but even I know where to draw the line... Mostly.

I'm aware what it's from. That was the problem.

You don't understand: The first one was made to make men look bad, the second one was not. Therefore, the second one is completely acceptable to society. We should only get upset when being directly pandered to by premeditated, filmed events that have been carried out by paid professionals.

It's quite alright that you fail to see that in my post, because I'm not arguing that objectifying women is bad at all. Your understanding seems to be spot on with my own and I don't disagree with a single thing you said. I think the main issue here is that OP couldn't possibly make a very strong case with only one sentence. OP's response to me ("Huh?") didn't really shine any additional light on the situation... Oh well. /thread for me

I am saying that I don't understand what point you are trying to make. Are you referring to something within the story of 50 Shades, or are you referring to how so many women bought the book? Either way, I'm confused. 50 Shades is a poorly written story that unsuccessfully portrays how a healthy S&M dynamic should function. The characters' relationship is more abusive than how those types of arrangements typically go down, if done right, and the abuse is aimed towards the woman. Which would just…

What does 50 Shades have to do with how men objectify women? What about porn?

I love reading comments on feminism from well intending men who are mostly ignorant about their movement. They always tear so many holes in what feminists preach and it feels so satisfying to read because you can tell that they aren't very aware of it. It gives their argument a very genuine flavor that most of us on here could never accomplish -- we're just too tainted by all of this already.

You can go there, sure, but I'm not going to follow. You introduce a bramble patch of issues. I'll keep my focus on the woman they used and her outfit, though. She is wearing a solid crew neck T-shirt and some nice looking pants. Her bust is a part of her freaking body, man, what exactly are you suggesting she do about that? Whether they used her intentionally or not doesn't really concern me. She's a real person. Suggesting she wear scarfs and winter jackets her entire life is unreasonable.
/r/MensRights30/10/14 10:52 PM

What on Earth does she need to wear to keep people from making comments like "skin tight" and "form fitting"? I would describe the clothes she wears as "normal". There is nothing provocative about that outfit at all. And how is she attracting attention? She's walking in a deadpan, bored way. There are things I don't like about the video, too, but using plain clothing and unobtrusive body language was something I appreciated.

That sub doesn't really come off as a female equivalent to this one. /r/MensRights is a lot more about advocacy for men and their rights, while /r/TwoXChromosomes just seems to be about being a woman in general. As to why it's a default sub? Beats me. I guess because there are a lot of women out there?

treeleafforest has got to be trolling. s/he literally flat out says: men = good chance they'll rape you. Anyone seriously spreading that concept is scum.

And what IS the point of your post? Your headline and your initial post is essentially nothing but women hating garbage. I think you've bought in a little too much to what the radfems say MRAs are all about... This sub isn't actually a hate group, as you can see from your downvotes.

What pisses me off so much is that she won't just outright say what she thinks and feels here. She camouflages an otherwise blatant statement of male hatred with this whole "this is how patriarchy is hurting you too, men!" bs, as if she's somehow on their side too. Meanwhile, everything she says does nothing but try to make men feel as scummy about simply existing as possible.

What do these death threats typically look like? I never see them, I just see and hear about stories that make it seem like somehow people on the Internet anonymously prevented physical talks and events from occurring and therefore (enter feminist name here) is oppressed and every man on the planet should feel infinitely ashamed. Just seems hard to take it all very seriously when it's never explained why these Internet threats were taken so seriously to begin with. I mean, if it's this easy to c…

Truly, though, it DOES seem way too over the top to be taken seriously. I personally can't stand this woman -- no big surprise there -- but I had always thought that she was just a master at veiling her agenda with carefully placed pandering to women itching for an excuse to hate men more. I mean, is she always like this? I don't actively follow her, for obvious reasons. Even if I was in a particularly woman hate-y mood and read stuff like that, but with the genders reversed, I'd still think the…

Everything else aside, can we just address how batshit insane this girl must be? Regardless of the rate of false accusations of all kinds, it takes a special kind of evil to come up with the stories she weaved.
/r/MensRights28/09/14 05:05 AM
2

Exactly. That's the number one point I'd make about these two interactions. Almost everything about how the man carried out his dates was better. He gave the girls hugs as they approached where as the woman just sat there, the guy made conversation about other topics while she mostly kept the focus on the fact that she was so overweight -- or at least made no effort to direct the discussion elsewhere. At times it was almost as if she was mocking her "victims" with her comments about her lipstick…

Seems that a 21st century lady is a lot more about what she does for herself, while a 21st century man is what he does for the woman. Or at least that's the message I get by comparing OPs article to those that you directed to.

Oh come on /r/MensRights, can we please not be this way? First, OP's "the mens..." quote in the title is ridiculous and immature and secondly, there's absolutely no feminist or men's rights related news to see here at all. What we have here is someone that killed their son. That someone, in this case, is a woman but that doesn't automatically make this a case for men's rights. Bad people are bad, man or woman. Wait until she gets two hours of timeout as a sentence and then you can go crazy. Unti…

I never post this stuff on FB. Day after day I see all kinds of feminist pandering posts in my feed and sometimes someone will get the bright idea to actually disagree with one of those posts... The result is so terrifying. The man hate is strong amongst my FB community and I don't even want to imagine what kind of backlash I'd get to be so bold as to actually post something outright pro male.

What is that sub? I vaguely get what they're about but I don't think I fully understand. And yeah, OP, this really isn't the place for that kind of talk. I can clearly see that you're very frustrated with our current system and I feel you on that, truly, but negatively stereotyping all women right back is definitely not the solution.

/r/MensRights31/08/14 07:01 AM

Serious question, what do people like the OP in that image think about sexualization? Do they think that absolutely nothing should be sexualized? Because that, to me, implies that society as a whole should turn a blind eye to sex and demonize it. Isn't that the kind of mentality that leads to a lot of what feminists say they're against -- like slut shaming and burying sexual assault claims as if they never happened? I mean, shouldn't feminists be concerned about the image that sexualization brin…

Ah, but I believe I have found such a woman. I have spoken in depth with the girl that I am currently seeing about this concern. Her mother was a stay-at-home for most of her life and her parents are still happily married. For her family, this model worked very well. I have spoken to many, many women about their philosophy on raising children and until I met this current girl, every single one seemed to view raising a child as an escape from responsibility, instead of just the other side of resp…

It's 2014, so there are individuals like you and I who know that those are perfectly acceptable traits for a man to hold, and that's why a subreddit such as this one exists. But in 2014, it is still a very underrepresented, unpopular fact. I assure you, I cannot express these desires openly with coworkers or friends (or even my family) without judgement, and certainly not as easily as my female peers.
/r/MensRights13/02/14 09:43 AM

Ha, I too wield a kick-ass beard. What concerns me the most about what you just said is the part where you say "but I've learned to accept..." I feel like it is always the man who must "learn to accept" that he simply can't be the father he wants to be. For you, for example, it doesn't seem like your wife had to "learn to accept" much of anything. I also feel that many men get through this a hell of a lot easier because they honestly don't care to be that hands-on of a father. (Because they were…

I'm in my last semester of Graduate school and currently work at a company that kindly expects me to scoot on once I graduate. So I suppose my career options are "nearly" endless, as I am beginning my job search again just now. What types of fields even offer that freedom? Edit: But more than any of that... Are you a father/mother? Does any of what I said resonate with you? Knowing that I'm not fundamentally broken would be one of the most reassuring things someone could tell me right now...

I think it is so damn fantastic how often the redditors in this sub will take a step back and give actual thought-out, objective responses. There have been so many opportunities in this thread to just give in and rant about a multitude of proposed injustices, but instead the conversation keeps getting rerouted with constructive criticism -- and people are upvoting those statements. Awesome.

Meh, I feel like you might be thinking too much about "how feminists would respond to this if the roles were reversed." Unlike them, we can see the humor in that imagery and then enjoy actually being pined after for once. This isn't just like Amazon or eBay -- products have no voice as to whether they are purchased or not, men absolutely do. These women still have to craft messages that appeal to their audience, they don't just get to press "buy" and get whatever guy they want.

Look. You're right. But have you ever been on a dating website? This site's approach is so damn refreshing, even if it does go too far in the other direction.

It actually just made me angry. Her post tells me that there are almost definitely other women out there who think the exact same thing, but they're never, ever going to admit it. Ugh, this subreddit pisses me off so much. I'm out.

Within the context of the show this makes perfect sense. Walt is clearly the danger in this scene. But even outside the context of the show, Jr. just learned that his dad killed his uncle. So he's trying to get his dad arrested, yes. Gender had no role in this.

When I first read this comment, yesterday, I thought "oh yes, that's true, good point." But now that I've thought on it, why exactly would either candidate want to go along with this lie? No, sidwood was downvoted because it was at all suggested that women could also be terribly injured by this type of violence. Nowhere was it at all said that it was in any way remotely ok to kick a guy in the nuts. In fact, nothing against men was said at all. Sidwood was simply stating that we should realize that it hurts everyone, men and women. Which is exactly the kind of information we should be upvoting the shit out of. Am I the only one who says "fuck them both"? When we're talking things like 53 or 48, or whatever huge number you want to use, doesn't it kind of all stop mattering how equal it is, as long as both of them get really, really, REALLY big sentences? I certainly think it should be equal, sure, but in this case it's not the inequality that bothers me as much as the fact that this PERSON, man or woman, is getting a ridiculously low sentence for what she did. Examining men's representation in games is not important towards changing the reasons for the stereotypes in the games to begin with. Remove the stereotypes from society and video games will follow. As for all other forms of media, I didn't comment on that at all. Video games, as I see them, focus disproportionately on action and military themed games. This differs from all other forms of media which focus on pretty much everything. Since you're line-by-line-ing me, I don't want you to think I'm…

I'm not mad and I'm not whining. I also don't believe examining men's representation in games is important at all. That's my point. This entire study is silly (albeit, interesting). Both men and women are stereotyped and hurt by how they are portrayed in video games. However, video games aren't to blame. The stereotypes in video games are the same ones in society. Men are predominantly the main characters of a video game because video games are primarily violent and men represent virtually all a…
