Is it not simpler to assume men and women know less about what they truly want and more about what they believe they should want? And that the disparity between the two is what causes most of the issues? I think that is actually the case, in most cases.

It kind of reveals why many of the men here are single/desperate, they are utterly incompetent at understanding different perspectives and what motivates those perspectives. They seriously cannot understand that Jenny deeply loves Forrest, always did. She loves him so much and hates herself so much, that she pushes him away because she feels unworthy of his love and will only corrupt him. This is what thr narrative heavily implies, and at times makes it very explicit. The "I know what love is" s…

I could probably scale back "everyone" but otherwise it's strange to me that you don't see the lack of sympathy for Jenny. The OPs text, and most comments in here imply a lack of sympathy towards Jenny. No further analysis about her, just she manipulated Forrest and that's it. They practically ignore everything about her except what is convenient for setting her up as some manipulative whore instead of a tragic character.

The amount of people hating on Jenny, instead of understanding her, clearly demonstrates women don't get a pass either.

The genders can't be swapped in Forrest Gump because the story wouldn't be coherent. Rewriting everything to make it coherent would make it such a different story that no one would recognize it as a gender swapped Forrest Gump. Everything that spun off of Vietnam would have to be thrown out and built from the ground up. That means no Bubba or Lt. Dan. But prior to that point, a gender swap basically means Forrest being sexually abused by his mother. After finally getting away from the abuse, he'…

I wish more people could understand this. My wife and I learned, the hard way, that birth control is not 100% effective. We both recognized neither of us were ready to be parents, psychologically and financially. It was a difficult decision because we were forced to evaluate ourselves, our relationship, and what we had planned. Owning the choices either way, making the most responsible decision and then following through. It was more difficult than euthanizing a terminally ill pet that is is pai…

The power structure paradigm of the USA determines what aspects, if any, of an ideology gets expressed through the channels the state-aligned powers control. Translating that to a more intuitive statement makes it "The revolution will not be televised". Because the owners of corporations will not tolerate discourse that is critical of their behaviors to exist within their domain of control. Hence, the aspects of feminism that is amplified are those that align with corporate interests, making it …

"Nice" is a generalism. It's not that it's good or bad; it's that it's satisfactory. If being nice is the primary quality of one's personality, it means they are uninteresting. That's the best case for it. In dating, attention is what everyone is trying to buy with the currency they have; looks, wealth, intelligence, interests, etc. And "nice" is has been hyper inflated.

I agree with almost everything you said, but one thing I take issue with is... Men criticize women for being stay at home and not working. Men criticize women who are SAH and don't contribute to the household, sure. Otherwise, other women are far more likely to criticize SAH women than men. Mom guilt/shame does not come from men. It comes from intragender, coupled with socioeconomic, power dynamics. Men generally don't consider a woman's income or career when it comes to dating because we are no…

Except they won't opt out of society, they will eventually gain enough numbers and burn society to the ground in one way or another. The second order effect is men losing a sense of purpose and grifters selling a false promise of finding it, packaged behind scapegoated women whose liberation destroyed a man's place in society and the household. The third order effect is women losing more and more rights because the grifters reach increasingly larger numbers of purposeless men who vote.

Big bingo! So many men operate within a drought framework when it comes to dating, and the way they commonly address it is so stupid. The top two methods are Quality/Quantity and Beggars-Settle, both of which are followed by overinvestment. Quality/Quantity is a good method, but there's a caveat: The Quantity must be there for it to work. A drought implies a lack of Quantity... Beggars-Settle is never good. Most men who do this end up getting screwed over, which makes them bitter and angry. They…

Your framing lacks the consideration of value matching. Workaholic means they value industriousness and productivity. Lazy boyfriend means they value low maintenance social interaction. Not social could mean they value their personal time more than social time. I can do this all day, but the point is that finding someone who has a similar set of values does involve a certain degree of luck. And it follows that if something involves luck, there will inevitably be unlucky people.

It's not a young woman thing. It can be any combination of things like validation seeking, crusading/campaigning, convert seeking, etc. It's not necessarily the ideology, but the means in which it is expressed. And damn-near-every ideology has their set of assholes.

This, but with some addendums... There are men/boys commenting here that are from different cultures. For instance, some may be commenting from the position of being a Saudi or Iranian, two cultures that hate women. You don't really know who you are talking to and what their background is, and that's fairly important. And then there are bad actors whose purpose is to exacerbate tensions, either as a job or for their own bizarre sense of pleasure.

"Leave the good men for us" Lacks a bit of critical thought, doesn't it? All the women that were/are in abusive relationships were/are in those relationships. The people likely getting sex dolls are the ones that tend not to be in relationships, hence the desire for a sex doll. The men that exist in the prior set are different from the men in the latter set. And we know there are bad men in the prior set. Now, with that being stated, we can speculate more accurately.

I think there is some merit to what you say, but it appears incomplete. It's like you want to get there and you use the language that would get you to the core of the problem, but you don't for some reason. Even while brushing up against it. Since before written history, male value has been determined by their value they provided to their community. The respect, recognition, and validation they received were realized in the interaction with those in their community. The people they labored with,…

I don't think the whole "Will someone please think of the women!" approach is going to garner much sympathy from those who have become desperate enough to engage in the numbers game. They likely started from the consideration of strangers' position and realized that it got them nothing and had to change strategies to get what they wanted out of life. Life is experiential, and those who succeed in it normally take an active role in making their life what they want it to be. It is what it is, and …

This is true. It's delivery (mail order bride) vs. curbside pickup (going to the place), both are founded in exploiting global inequality. She's not with the guy because of who he is, but because of where he's from. He is not a savior; he is a vehicle from a bad place to a better place. Once residency is established in a better place, then a reassessment occurs, and it will factor the others in the new environment. I think more people need to realize that dating is a lot like traffic, s.t. one i…

I agree! I think essentialism is necessary when observing the concrete. Exactly! However, critical theory is more than the oppressor/oppressed dialectic. However, you do touch on the complexity of intersecting privileges/deprivations, which is known as intersectionality and it is a concept that originates from Feminist Critical Theory. (And that's kind of my point!) I'm not saying that there is some superior framework of analysis regarding all human relations. I'm saying that some frameworks are…

Liberalisms attempt to find and explain the cause of societal problems but forego the use of critical theory. Without critical theory, some explanations of social phenomena from the feminist perspective require the reliance on essentialism. This is what causes some feminists to believe "A man is guilty/bad until proven innocent/good." As well as the pathologization of masculinity, with vague definitions of toxic masculinity and no definition of safe masculinity, while toxic feminity is inconceiv…

I'm thinking that... Maybe... Just, maybe... Men should be put in an effort to be physically fit. Then put in the effort to improve their appearance, look healthy, and smell and act pleasant. After that, get some black t-shirts made that say in large font, "Single and friendly. Open to conversation if you talk to me." Or something to that effect. Wear it every where it is not inappropriate.

Generally, the onus of reporting falls on the victim. We can claim all kinds of justifications for not reporting, but in the end, it is generally the victims' responsibility to proclaim the harm that they have suffered. Failure of justice is certain if it is never sought.

Interestingly enough, as fewer men go to college and with the gap increasing between the sexs in terms of college attendance, intrasexual competition increases for attending women. But the fascinating part is that women do not respond to scarcity the same way men do! I find it incredibly telling that the antinatalists aren't committing suicide in droves. If the disdain for humanity is such to see it end, then why not end one's own life? If nothing matters, and there is certainty in that, then the fastest way to end humanity is to end one's own life because that effectively ends humanity for that individual. But they don't, which means something keeps them from doing so, and that means something matters.

The study does not look at any trait that is linked to being a terrible person, other than aggression. The trait you are not seeing is on page 585. So why is the study relevant? Did you read it? Circling back to the aggression parameter after we already established it was not the only metric for terrible behavior. Hyde's study is a meta-analysis of the mental differences between genders, and it concludes that men and women are more mentally similar than dissimilar, and where they are dissimilar, the differences are not significant. If men and women are so similar mentally, then motivation and intention will be equal to that similarity with the dissimilarities not being significant in re…

One of my wife's friends had to change providers because the original provider refused to perform an abortion on a nonviable mass. I'm not being facetious towards the anti-choicers either. I can't remember what it was called, but it is very rare. Suppose that the SO of a person with an avoidant attachment style came to them with something that made them upset. They may attempt to invalidate their SOs' feelings because invalid things can be more easily discarded. Engagement means empathizing, and that requires some degree of vulnerability. I don't think attachment styles are an active thought process in most people. I am under the impression that it is a problem-solving behavior that is trained by prior relationships and relationship models. That is, the person gets the feeling that something is off in the relationship and attempts to solve it with the communication style they are most accustomed to for the context. The behavior that gets attention in children is the behavior that is reinforced. The reinforced behavior is what wil…

Capitalism strongly encourages consumerism via marketing. A variety of marketing strategies encourage entitlement within the consumer. Frequency of exposure to these marketing strategies reinforces the behavior until it is normalized. This normalization means that the entitlement extends into personal relationships. That's a really poor analogy, but I understand why it seems like it makes sense. It's an unfortunate reality that because of a massive propaganda campaign, most people have defined socialism by an implementation of it rather than what it is. Your phrasing is weird but if you mean "Why do you care about who is or is not dating who?" Then I have a valid answer for that. We should all care about whether or not young men have romantic prospects (as well as economic prospects) because if they don't in large enough, they will make it society's problem in some bad ways. Increase in crime and an increase in authoritarianism. Both of those suck for everyone.

I think it is important for people to be honest and set boundaries when it comes to sex. My general thought about orgasms is that it is their orgasm, they are responsible for it, thus it is not my responsibility. Humans want to have children because it's instinctual. We define a developed country by the state of it's economy, and the stressors that come with a developed country are embedded within the class tension of capitalism. It's vastly easier to blame some external entity than to look at oneself objectively and truthfully, and then change one's behavior to address or compensate. You can go into every popular post in PPD and see it; men blaming women and/or saying that some perceived shortcoming is what prevents them from making friends/dating. However, there is blame to be had but it rests at the feet of society, not women. Men are struggling because they are not allowed to express their emotions, and if they do, t…

People can get addicted to anything. It's not about "mental fortitude", it's about positive feedback and reinforcement; and that doesn't mean positive by your definition, it means positive by their definition. If something makes a person feel better than what is normal in their life, they will implement more of it in some way. Video games are an easy one. Lots of kids come from households where they are neglected (typically overworked and/or addicted parents) or abused (inside or outside of the …

They also don't understand that feelings precede logic. What an individual feels is important is what determines their values and thus their ethics. Then logic comes into play to determine if an action is in accordance with those ethics. The selection of branching is weighted by those ethics, which is to say it is weighted by feelings. Logic can only determine if a choice is sound and valid. Not what is right or wrong, that is the domain of ethics.

The higher education industry is preparing for the enrollment cliff, which will begin in academic year 2025. An expected 15% drop in incoming freshmen, across the board. Why? 2025 - 17 = 2008 2008 financial crisis. The state of the economy affects birthrates. Among many other things, I do data analytics for a university.

Yep. The human hardware hasn't changed in any significant way since records have been kept. So, it's not the hardware system that fucking up. That leaves the software system. The individual humans software is installed with the systems it interfaces with regularly, like the family system, social structure system, education system, and so on... Some times the installation comes before the right patch or needed update and it gets... Buggy. That aside... There is one system that functions very diff…

A human's base instinct is secure shelter, secure food, and procreate. Base strategy for procreation in males is towarda quantity, and for females it is towards quality. But that is just the base, the instinct, the animal within a human. To be only that at it's pinnacle is still just an animal, and that in itself is mediocrity when humans are so much more than mere animals.

Some of the worst things ever... However a male host... ...and everyone joked about it for about an hour. This is a perfect example of people adopting a value socially but not internalizing the principle that underlies it. What's worse is this kind of mindlessness is proliferated by the hosts being implicitly hypocritical. my friends talk about how it's dangerous out there... ...I would never know how that feels to have that fear. Just more mindlessness from those who would say men do not know f…

It is completely possible that both can be adored and adorer at the same time. The set of metrics used by a person during adoration are fluid and are not zero sum. Person A who adores qualities x, y, and z at a particular point in time can also be adored by Person B who adores qualities a, b, and x at the same point in time, in respect to Person A adoring Person B and vice-versa. Sure, we could look at one particular quality of the set and it would lead to your conclusion, but that is reductive …

Time is the capacity for experience. Time is not the amount of experience. A discovery from neuroscience is that novel experiences are more memorable than stable daily patterned experiences, and this is what creates the "time flies by" effect as we age. Our brain stops dedicating memory to our commonly repeated tasks. Experience could be said as things we learn but we don't learn much, if anything, from repeated behavior over time. So experience could be stated as novel experiences. One person c…

LOL What they think it means... "Women only want fuck guys who excite them, in addition to being chads/alpha/whatever! See! These they make more babies!" What it actually means... Felons tend to come from a lower socioeconomic class which entails lesser education, access to healthcare (mental/physical/sexual), and increased rates of exposure to abuse/neglect/trauma. All of which culminates towards poor skills in decision-making, planning, and impulse control. It's not about felons... It's about.…

Sex is real but not necessarily meaningful. Interpersonal relationships are meaningful within the context of the relationship which may have aspects that are not real (i.e. abstract).

Yes. Absolutely. Intimate relationships between people is all about communication, and communication in business is very different than communication in intimate relationships. Trying to map one to the other is a recipe for disaster.

The first thing to understand is the distinction between motivation and action. Self-interest is the motivation. Self-serving is a way to act on that motivation. A person can have the self-interest to act in an altruistic manner. To say it another way; A person could also act selflessly out of self-interest. Many people who have suicidal ideation believe that if they were to kill themselves then everyone else would be better off. However, their motivation is to stop suffering which is based in s…

Perfect is the enemy of good. Trying to find the perfect person for yourself will only deprive you of the opportunities with people who are good for you. And that is making the massive assumption that you know who is perfect for you, they exist, you can find them, and they would be interested. Find someone who puts effort into the relationship and into themselves. You put effort into yourself and your relationships. This is the way to a good life, there are no other paths.

Do you not see how this framing reduces the people you're in a relationship with to objects? Would you want to be with someone who values you so little they think of you as something that can be swapped out like an appliance and it wouldn't matter to them? I'm going to bet the answer is no. Now go live your life and don't be a hypocrite.

egoism is an evil philosophy. You probably shouldn't make such an absolute claim on this one. It's pretty difficult to argue against psychological egoism or even ethical egoism, and self-interest is not to be confused with selfish or self-serving. I think we can all agree that selfishness is unethical, and therefore evil. The most self-serving choice is to slut it up to your heart's content and then insist on settling down with a virgin to curb your own jealousy without giving a damn about their…

So you are saying that a person should not engage in sexual activity to prevent potential jealousy from a potential life partner? Which is to say that someone should restrict their sexual activity to avoid potentially bringing about negative emotions in another person whose contextual existence is not certain. And that is considered practical? See, I've studied quite a bit of ethics in an academic setting. I cannot think of an ethical case that is both sound and valid from an egoist perspective …

The moral frameworks have degraded so much, essentially all people engage in hookup culture. (Unless you waited till marriage). What do you think this statement means? Because I see it as a claim about moral/ethical degradation about sexual behavior. More specifically, a claim that that moral/ethical decay has brought about more sexual encounters with a greater number of people. What other way should I interpret your words that I quoted?

I'm asking a direct question to your second point, which you brought up. You brought up moral framework degradation in the scope of premarital sex which you preface as relevant. I'm asking you to explain why sex before marriage is unethical.

I suspect that abortion rates and single motherhood rates positively correlate, but loosely. Abortion is an option to prevent the whole single motherhood problem a woman could face. A single mother could also unintentionally get pregnant and want an abortion to avoid the physical trauma from pregnancy and/or financial gutting that comes with childrearing, so there's a double dip there.

It's a fairly standard marketing tactic to manufacture a need, and then sell the solution. Take a look at AXE body spray for example. "You smell and that repels women. Buy our spray and you will attract women." And pretty much any company that uses a gender-specific marketing campaign. They need the potential client to believe they are lacking in some capacity of their gender in order to sell them something. The worst part is that the person doesn't even need to buy any of the products to hear t…

Birth rates decrease in more developed countries because what makes them more developed is a more developed economy... Developed Country = Developed Economy First-world country = first-world economy Third-world country = third-world economy Of course oscillations are going to occur. Of course boom and bust cycles will occur. But the tendency over time is that as a country develops, i.e. their economy develops, birth rates decrease. Dating apps are intentionally designed to not work for long term partner pairing. It's a business, which means they are in it for profit. If they successfully paired people, then they would lose two clients at once; that's bad for the bottom line. Nope, not religion or atheism. The cause of alienation is capitalism. The role men and women filled in villages and towns is what gave them purpose and belonging. Imagine a small community anywhere from 50 to 250 people, let's say 300+ years ago. If you were a shoemaker, you were probably the only one or one of a very small group in your community. Everyone in the community needed shoes, so they came to you or the other person you both know. The things you needed, you would go to the person who …

The paradox is that women are attracted to men who are repulsive to other men. Tall men are preferred because they are seen as socially “intimidating” to their short friends. Cocky men who give their friends lots of shit are seen as dominant and capable of repelling other male suitors. It's not so much that women want an asshole as much as it is them wanting a man who has values and will defend or stand for them, in other words, has boundaries. Unfortunately, being an asshole can trick women who…

This works if you have a social circle with single women in it. That is why inviting women/men into it is critical. Invite everyone you are willing to at every opportunity. For example, if there is a gas station clerk you have brief but enjoyable conversations with, invite her/him. It could be as simple as "Hey, I like to get out and bowl on these days at this place. If you're interested, come out and join me and my friends for a couple of games." Men who don’t are effectively living in prison…

You met women at D&D. Did you invite women to join you for D&D session? Connecting through mutual interest is hit or miss on gauging attraction. If she comes when invited on multiple occasions, she's not there for the game, she's there to spend more time with you, because she's attracted to you.

I want to add to your comment. Attraction is something many men don't understand because they don't create the avenue to evaluate attraction. I'm going to spell it out really clearly for them... Go do something social that interests you. And by "social", I mean something that is outside of a place of living (house, apt, condo, etc.) and where conversation is either expected or does not take away from participating in the interest. Go regularly and consistently. Think of it like "This is what I d…

That's a little stretch. We do not know if OP is acting in accordance with good will, which is the entry point for the logic of Kantian ethics. If that cannot be established, we cannot arrive at the categorical imperative which prevents us from getting to the universalization where the golden rule would exist.
