Make sure you practice talking with everyone, not just girls. How to Win Friends and Influence People has a lot on being a good conversationalist, to me it's a combination of two things: having a genuine interest in people and being a well-rounded person with a vast amount of knowledge. That means read, read, read, read, read and always ask questions.

Try doing that exact thing but from your phone, it worked for me. Check 'mobile uploads'.

I would add in that it helps to approach Tinder peeps as friends. You are looking for new friends that you might want to have sex with, that keeps the context fun and casual.

I think messaging and conversation, especially openers, are a whole topic on their own or at least require more explicit outlining. Polarization is awesome and worth mentioning, but difficult to implement until it clicks. My go-to opener is polarizing in a polite way.

This is very good and comprehensive, my thoughts on messaging (as a fellow comms professional): Short and sweet: your opener should grab their attention within the first 7 or 8 words. Words like "hey" and "hi" get lost, so try using "what" "who" or even "heyo" statement words to get that first hook. Engage early: I have had equal luck saying "How's it going?" as I have with other creative openers. One of my recent favorites in light of the app crashing often with the update: "I really want to hi…

I'm in a similar boat. I've always been able to get girls but it's always been in a very passive fashion. Recently single, I started working the door at a nice bar which has me making small talk with 200+ strangers a night and then Tinder has given me the confidence to practice being more aggressive in conversation. Yesterday I met an awesome chick on the train, and in my head I just pretended it was any other Tinder interaction.

How many messages in are you going, or for how long? If I don't have conversational chemistry with a girl, I move on. I don't have time to waste on people that expect me to entertain them. If it's a good conversation that is winding down, try to shift to a big topic of conversation that interests them and suggest meeting up to talk about it in person. Last ditch effort, or if you just have good chemistry, ask them out on a date. You can say "Listen, you seem like a cool and smart person. I'd lov…

I had decent success with "Hey, how's it going?" in my area, but I wasn't getting the kind of engagement I wanted (hard to escalate, move the conversation along). It works best on weekends, and you can try and set up a date if you catch someone early in the day.

Learn to tell your story: why do you game? What does it add to your life? What have you learned that you can teach someone? The fishing part could be really interesting too... talk about your grandfather and how he ties into your life. Why fishing? What do you like about fishing? If you want some experience with this listen to a couple of episodes of This American Life. Note how the presenters slow down and control their pitch to tell a story.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
