Some of this is mental. I honestly had nothing in common with women in my age for various reasons. It wasn’t really about looks. Then I found a woman four years older than me that rocked my fucking world. Just when I thought there was a theme or system to it… Keep your mind open man.

Look at it from my perspective, it could be another woman that your kid is trained to call “auntie” that tries to replace your role as dad. That’s my own story… That being said I don’t think other men are going to try to diminish and take your role as dad. We can be more empathetic than advertised. Like take the situation I have with my GF… Her kids are older. They have a dad. Even though he mistreated her, she didn’t like him anymore, whatever the case, I’ve lived a divorce myself so I can rela…

Kids talk. I try to keep my kid involved with my life. Basically know the character list even if she doesn’t meet them. We do have a custody arrangement, but that doesn’t stop my ex from making my kid angry or afraid, then weaponizing her emotions into resisting spending time with me or doing activities. It’s a form of abuse that the courts have trouble identifying.

Afterward feels great for the most part. Getting a horrible person out of your daily life feels amazing. Sometimes you still look around and can’t believe it’s real. The problem is with children, though. My ex constantly tries to alienate me from my daughter. It’s been going on for years. I thought it was getting a little bit better but the summer vacation I’ve been planning with my daughter for the last year just got ruined, and the fourth Father’s Day in a row is about to be ruined. Last year,…

I agree, past a certain extent that’s a fool’s errand.

I hear you I was stuck there. I had a fear of letting my daughter down by letting her think I quit. The fear wasn’t based, it’s complicated to explain. I actually did more damage and gave my ex a stronger control over her by staying.

I think what you’re not understanding is that once divorce is threatened, milestones are no longer a milestones. Working towards a goal or milestone becomes “I need to do this or else”. You will forever feel this hanging over you, sometimes more, sometimes less, but it will always be there.
/r/Divorce_Men16/06/26 01:59 PM

If she chooses not to, are you going to stay around like a sucker? You need to take control of your own life and get it moving, the financial penalty for doing so we’ll always be there. Once they threatened divorce or elude to breaking up, any of that. The seed is planted and it’s over. People probably keep telling you this, but I have lived it and it is true.

Do t lose the faith man, it’s a learning process. . If you’re on the apps mindset is everything. I only met 2 worth a fuck. One turned out to be a friend, another an experiment gone wrong, the other was a short lived relationship that I learned a lot from.

Do any woman who reaches out to your ex wife, let alone early on, is a walking red flag / unintelligent/ drama seeking / self sabotaging person. She did you a favor. No one with 2 brain cells to rub together would look for information from a biased source. I’m almost 2 years post divorce and I have some experience with dating. I dodged many bullets lol. Are you new at this?

Yes, those specific narcissist misandrist women. I would never judge them as a whole, some of them have their hearts dipped in gold. I discovered a couple of them.
/r/Divorce_Men29/03/26 12:08 AM

Because of what I discovered during the divorce… I made the choice that although I would be devilishly good at it if I chose, I’m not going to let her turn me into a person like her. So if a group of women want to be assholes and exclude men, great. I won’t do the same to get even because I’m bigger and better than that. More evolved. They can go ahead and be the lesser person. I do like that some subs make people have a flair of man or woman before they post though. That’s seems to help.

It’s mostly about the actions. A good manipulator can explain away their actions, but not for long if you’re paying attention 💪

My advice is to stop loving someone who doesn’t love you. It’s not like you can blink your eyes and it’s done, but it is achievable. Someone who keeps taking and offers nothing back is just going to make your life miserable. Get her out of your life, don’t say one more word than you are required to for a person like this.

Unfortunately, some women have more hate for their ex-husband’s than they have love for their children. I live such an existence, I’m sorry to hear you have to do that too OP.

That was such a fucked up adventure I can’t even type it all. It’s a trial and error process of figuring out who you are, what you will and will not put up with. What you are willing to concede for who you think is the right person. And it takes balls of steel to even do it. You will encounter messed up women who think things like “men are generally cowards”. No bitch, we are deciding if you’re worth our effort and cutting off proximity to us while you show us who you are… we aren’t cowards, we …

Yes, this happened to me. It was like puberty 2.0. I think part of it was starting to work out and get my body moving, there was a lot to it. It was bad for a while, though, like middle school saluting the flag moments lol. I did hook up with someone and I regretted it though. Wow, this reads a lot like my own history. I think that when all the things like gaslighting and manipulation are involved, it’s healthy for yourself to not want to have face-to-face interactions. Not only is it less stress, but written interaction is recorded, so it gives them less room to screw with you.

It’s a gradual step-by-step process. It’s not like you can do some things and suddenly you wake up one day and it’s OK. If you take that kind of thing seriously, it’s a whole project. It doesn’t always go the way you expected it to go either.

Yeah I lived that. Twice. But the thing is that when you are hanging on, putting in effort, they all don’t demand more. Some of them will just chill and wait for the next chapter.

People change. You have to figure out if you want to work with it, or she ignores your warnings and became a stranger because she really doesn’t care about you. There comes a point where your priorities and vision don’t count to her in many ways, you are just there because you were already there.

I started living the day after I mentally decided to leave her. That’s how I feel. I had one relationship since, and that was hands-down, so much better, even though it didn’t end well. There’s a whole different world out there.

All it took my ex was a shitty friend who had never even had the courage to marry in the first place, and a toxic mother-in-law. Both misandrists. They helped to talk my ex into girl power and the glory of being a single mother. In the end, they did me a favor, I didn’t realize how shitty I was being treated by all three of them until I got out.

One morning, she started a nasty fight with me in the kitchen. It was over the cleaning method of a frying pan, and a contractor not showing up to remove some bushes. She was really nasty, cursing and calling me all kinds of things within earshot of my kid. Like usual I told her to stop, and as usual, she denied my kid hear her. I went to work that day, and slow burn on it. I ignored her all day and night. I went to the bar after work. She started texting me and did the old. “ maybe we should co…

I was right there. For a year lol. I didn’t fit the perfect grocery list of expectations, and didn’t talk a good BS game in the dating apps, saying all the flirty things they wanted me to say. I told the truth about myself lol. I found a woman who also didn’t like games, and was receptive to who I really was. I found my peace with it through my child. Without all of the things that set her existence in motion, she wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t trade her existence for anything in the world. Another good one is that even though I feel like I wasted my youth on my marriage, I would not be with the special woman I am with now if history had taken a different course.

It’s possible she might be on the spectrum. Many people who are tend to take things literally. I don’t think it means. She’s an awful person or anything if that is the situation.

Oh my god I can so see this happening in a year or so 🤣. She’s a total narcissist, so whenever she’s done with it in her mind, everything will be right because she won’t be able to see from someone else’s viewpoint.

She’s trying to isolate you from your own family and manipulate you. It doesn’t matter if it’s over Trump or the Boston Red Sox, this is alarming behavior. My ex did crap like this to me. Don’t fall for it or you will regret it. It’s normal to have differences with your family over some things. It’s not normal to completely cut yourself off from them and isolate.

I’ve had bad luck with the dating apps as well for the most part. I met a couple of cool people, but no relationship developed. I’m in no rush either so it’s not like I’m taking it to heart. It does suck talking to someone only to find out it’s a scammer.

Don’t let them get you down OP. I’m divorced and prepping my house for sale right now. Ex and kid moved out already. I’m so flat out, I don’t have time to go around looking at apartments or what not. I’ll be flying by the seat of my pants as well. Right after the sale I’ll be sleeping in my truck until the check clears, then finding a hotel with a decent monthly rate. Yes. I’ve been able to spend actual quality time with my kid. Not seeing my kid was a huge fear, but I realized that the time I was getting with her hovering was worthless. I’m also happier and healthier than…ever. My doctor and those around me confirmed it. I don’t have a negative person harping on me and dragging me down with negativity every time I go home. I don’t hear bitching when I first wake up in the morning. I get to start my day with a smile.

One trick my buddy used was this: every time he went shopping to buy things like groceries or what not for his family, he would use his card, choose the cash back option on the pad and pull $20. Or 40. Every time he had the option (even at a gas station he would put less fuel in and use this) he would do it. He saved it and got a few thousand this way.

Distance, distance, and distance. Put her on the other end of a phone and only text her. Don’t engage. Look up argument derailers and take notes. Look up the virtues of stoicism and take notes.

You just helped me out a great deal. I have a negative ex who says crappy insulting things to me all the time. It’s aggravating but I don’t engage. My new go to response will be “why are you trying to trigger me, you still got a thing for me or something?”

I hear you. I just couldn’t trust or connect. I had to change my whole approach. It’s not popular with women in the dating scene, but I added to my profile that I just want to be friends first and see if something evolves from that. I found a woman who was in the same situation and wanted the same thing. 1.5 months later, we’re still talking. My comfort level is going up and I’m more interested than when we started talking. Theres hope.

The way you describe the gym needs to be said more. HIIT cardio classes saved me mentally because for one hour, I was surrounded by people unlike me, and I didn’t have the oxygen in my brain to worry about my problems. That hour off is huge.

I don’t do drugs and never saw a therapist. I found a person to DM with on Reddit instead, way better! (Maybe it’s just her?) I did cut down on drinking but didn’t stop. I used to hate hearing “get in the gym”. I took it the wrong way. I thought it was like a teen angst thing where you’re trying to get Billy and impress women. This was the biggest misconception. After 40, everyone is damaged in their own way. IDGAF that some token misandrist women think this applies to men only. Let them run their mouths so I don’t end up dating one of them. My ex turned out to be misandrist so every one of these women talking shit is a bullet dodged in my book.
