Meh. Maybe not tons but at least most introverts I know prefer to marry other introverts.

Meh. I tend to agree with your idea about aperating kids for gym. I used to teach, though, and I snuck in high key stoicism. Both the girls and the boys seemed into it, you could probably do it in both classes.

I don't know about this whole "being a stud requires hard work" bit. I know plenty of guys who rotate through two or three women while being pretty despicable physically, morally, etc. These are not people that I would really describe as skilled in any way, I think they just sleep with people who have already decided they're willing, same as slutty women do.

I'm not sure what you mean by there not being an emphasis on toxic femininity within feminism. A great deal of feminism is dedicated to dealing with the concept of toxic femininity and masculinity in the sense that both are "gendered expectations causing personal and societal problems." Both toxic masculinity and femininity can be harmful to the individual and have the potential to seep out and hurt others (e.g., girls bullying girls, boys bullying boys, kids picking up toxic behaviors from pare…

Yeah. Agreed. Its not a man thing at all. It's all on me. And I'm going to do or say whatever I have to to talk my way out of the occasional problem on my way home with man, woman, whatever.

Yes, this is NOT about men's responsibility to not rape/assault anyone. Men, as a gender, have 0 responsibility to make sure I get home safely. You're kind of missing the point, though. I would 100% prefer not to fake interest or give a fake phone number because that defeats the whole purpose. I would 100% still fake interest or give a fake phone number if I thought it necessary because I don't care if it's OK or not. I got shoved out a relatively slow-moving car for rejecting someone honestly o…

So, according to you, my options are a) be honest and risk violence so that I have to respond with violence or b) lie and act like a civilized person on the bus home? What if I'm in a moving vehicle at a great distance from my house? How should I remove myself, then? This is not a convincing argument that I have a 'responsibility to be direct.' Many philosophers who write about ethics have conceded that lying out of self-preservation is fine. I'm a breadwinner and I have people who depend on me …

For me, it's just not about the man at all. It's about me and my responsibility to be safe. Back in my younger days, I thought that the best way to turn someone down was to kindly and firmly say 'No, thanks.' But it turns out that this isn't the case. I've had both men and women react violently or melodramatically when politely turned down. So, now, I HOPE nobody's a mind reader because the number one way that I've found to get out of being hit on incessantly is to lie to the person. I think you…

Personally, I think the answer to the question depends on what constitutes getting what you truly want. Compromises, score keeping, trade offs all can damage a relationship if one or both people are defending or trying to obtain what would personally bring them as an individual gratification. On the other hand, these are necessary, healthy, and personally fulfilling parts of a relationship where both people may immediately want opposite things but what they truly want is to keep the relationship…

To be honest, I was confused by your rice krispies comment because it took me a minute to parse it as a good thing, which in the context of the rest of your comment, I think it's meant to be, just because anecdotally, I tend to observe the opposite.

It's everything. Even years in, we are still continuously amazed in all the ways in which we complement each other perfectly. It's an amazing privilege to watch her grow to her fullest potential. It's also a tremendous responsibility to be there for her so it's honestly making me hustle harder and more successfully than I've ever hustled before. She gave my life a profound sense of peace, warmth, and comfort while also lighting a fire under me that makes me want to give her everything. All the c…

That makes sense. Maybe it's not a coincidence.

It's genuinely nice to hear that y'all had good dads. I the people that surround me weren't so lucky but it gives me hope for the kids I teach. Hug all your dads for me!

The hatred of the opposite sex skips them by? Really? Pretty much every lady I know or work with can volunteer a 'crappy dad' story.

Are you asking generally or more specifically? Generally, I would say it's a mistake to say that all women depend on something to turn them on. Sometimes, some women will just wake up feeling like yowling cats and will decide that a given day is a sexy day.

Yes. I also don't agree that women necessarily have a reactive sex drive. I can see how that would be true for some women but that, at least, hasn't been my experience.

Yeah, I guess it's just a difference in perspective and exposure. I think that even if we achieved a techno utopia with VR sexbots there would still be stuff to get done and I wouldn't want my lady to be an extra burden to rescue. At that point, the woman is one of the things that "has to get done." I find it intuitively easier to romanticize a partner who can get things done with me a la Molly Pitcher or something like that. But, OP is right, I fully grant that may be a difference in culture be…

I might be misinterpreting but it seems from your post that you're placing 'meaning and romance ' at the opposite end of 'getting things done.' But why would this be the case?

No, they're just another platform for disagreement and another demand that takes time from the relationship. Who's turn is it to change diapers, who's driving them, were you right to handle things that way, I thought homework would be done by this time, etc. If your bond isn't already strong when you have children, I would say most cases tend towards children being the final straw as far as quality of the relationship, even if it doesn't mean divorce. http://psycnet.apa.org/?&fa=main.doiLanding&…

Good on you for reinventing yourself! Do you ever not want to spend the effort? If so, what do you to do to motivate yourself? I ask because I definitely put in more effort in college, but eventually gave up on it.

Oh yeah, Amy's statement makes it clear that in her view, she doesn't think anyone is being legit with their partner. She automatically thinks her experience is universal and thinks all men are exerting the pressure on their women to be Cool Girls, when that's crazy. But I think that what resonated with people is that it's a twisted character's exaggerated response to the normal observation that people pressure other people and pressure themselves to be something perhaps attainable but not neces…

I do think that you're supposed to come away thinking that Amy is a narcissistic psychopath and I do think some people missed the point in that movie in that they think Amy is supposed to be the identifiable character. But I think that specific statement is less a hateful tirade about the coolness of women and more an expression of the idea that sometimes partners may tolerate more than they should for the sake of being considered a CoolGirl.

Came to say this. Also, to add that I've never heard a woman say the OP's first two points about men who like big boobs.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
