The mother of my son got really drunk one night, came to my mothers, smashed my surround sound system in the driveway, and punched me in the eye amongst other blows. I called the cops, and they took a complaint. The officer was actually pretty nice and told me how to file for a restraining order and potentially press charges. However, once I went to see a magistrate about both of those, I was basically told to leave.

The real 'bad parenting' moment was she moved to assault the skater instead of comforting her child and checking for potential injury. Personally, if my son was run into at a skate park, I would check to see if they were ok. It is a skate park. People get run into. Why is a toddler running around unattended, and why is she not the one caring for him? Instead of being cared for by his mother, he gets to see her attacking someone.

One thing that shocked me when going through family court was that, because Iam a college grad, I can potentially pay child support on a thweoretical earning capacity of 38K a year... even though not only have I never made anywhere near that much, but my student loans and medical expenses would make paying on this figure impossible. Of course, they do not take into account deductions for loans or ongoing medical payments, it is just an earning capacity figure.

just trying to find out why good hygiene couldn't fix most of these issues and whether there's research supporting a conclusion that in fact cleanliness doesn't resolve such issues. Dude... mayo clinic link posted above - perhaps you do not know what the mayo clinic is. They are one of the most highly regarded hospitals in the nation. I am quite sure that if the mayo clinic staff account is posting medical reasons in favor of circumcision on their hospital web page, then there is plenty of resea…

Really it is not about cleaning at all, if you were to read some of the above links. It's about UTIs, STDs, and various cancers and irritation issues.

Was that part of the indoctrination of the classes they made you take? Not joking at all, sounds like something they would drill into your head if you had to take a DV class. It's the reason I let my son's mother just punch me in the face and didn't try and stop her. Just let her do visible damage and don't leave a mark at all, because if YOU engage in a fight she started, and YOU are just defending yourself, YOU are still going to jail no matter what. Sometimes people act like I'm crazy for let…

"The silent treatment" is abuse??? How can a lack of action or statement be abusive? It may be cold, immature, and distant... but abusive? Really? So talking in the wrong way is abusive, and not talking at all is abusive, got it. Better engage in every fight no matter what, or you are silently abusing her. So I guess when I don't talk to my ex after she screws me over I am actually abusing her.

Just wondering, this may not be about lack of or uneven resources, it may be about supply/demand and "equal" resources. If they are required to spend an equal amount of funding on both male and female housing, and there are 5X as many male homeless people who have need of their service, of course on a per head basis men will get less. Obviously the solution would be to appropriate funds by gender needs and not an equal 50/50 split, but a lot of times they have little say in how funding is spent,…

right - I know where I live now the laws allow you to pretty much dust somebody off just for jumping behind the counter and threatening you with harm, but NYC is stricter in the way you described, where you are obligated to retreat before engaging. I do not think, however, they are the strictest where you must be physically backed into a corner; you just can not jump to engage without making an attempt to retreat.

well you need to watch it again, because he clearly delivers the final blow to a woman who gets up and can be seen raising up above counter level. The courts agree as well.

I would say that he was cornered behind the counter, which is why no matter the laws on the books, he did what was considered lawful self defense. Considering he was a parolee for murder, I am sure they would have taken any excuse they could to put him back in jail had he not followed the laws for self defense in NYC. It didnt look like he had anywhere else to go, and he definitely retreated from them instead of jumping to engage.

He didn't hit the woman who stayed down, he hit the woman who tried to get back up (and potentially continue the assault which she started). The woman who stayed down did not get hit again. If you assault someone at their work and then jump the counter to continue it, I think anything is fair game once you invade that space. There were nothing but bad intentions meant by jumping that counter. If he had been an armed clerk he could have shot them, so I see nothing wrong with the clerk beating the…

Pretty much any female I know from the hood completely agrees that if a woman attacks a man seriously, then they deserve what is coming to them; an all out retaliation in defense (Im not talking about an open handed slap in anger and you retaliate by beating her down). Some of these females are out of other guys weight class, so what are you supposed to do? Let them stab you and hope the cops show up so you can avoid hitting a woman? Let them blind you while they claw your face to pieces? It rem…

They will start a fight, raise the level of violence as far as it can be taken, then try as hard as they can to get you arrested and ruin your life. Exactly. You can tell he is telling the one woman to stay down, and she tries to get back up and presumably continue the assault. She jumped the counter and attacked him, had this been a different circumstance where a female clerk was at, say a liquor store (where many clerks are known to carry firearms on their hip), deadly force could be used. If you jump a counter after assaulting a clerk, and threaten to kill him (as the grand jury determined, since he reasonably feared for his life) - you c…

No prob. The graphic images caught on tape of a male McDonald’s cashier beating two aggressive female customers with a metal rod after they hopped over the counter to attack him, brought varying and heated reactions from the thousands who watched the video. Some felt that the McDonald’s employee had every right to defend himself, others commented that he crossed the line after giving one of his attackers a beat-down so severe that her skull was partially-crushed. This poor clerk was assaulted by 2 females and defended himself after they jumped the counter. I just wrote a very long letter to the editor regarding the blatant misrepresentation of the clerk as being an assailant (all charges have since been dropped for him). She is technically a resident now for the time being (due to his statements to the police), until it can be proven otherwise in court, which will happen with an eviction. You cant just kick your S/O out the day you break up if she has been living with you, you have to give them proper notice and time. Everything you are saying makes perfect common sense, but this is not how the law will see it. Also you can not kick someone out immediately for non payment of rent; it takes at least 30 days. If y…

Well, the problem is that she is going to just say that she went out for a walk or something. At this point, since he admitted he let her live there for a period of time, they will be forced to get him to let her back in. They definitely will force him to let her stay; you can not just lock a tenant out of their house. Also, the issue of threats is her word against his. He can TRY to file charges (which I have no idea why he has not gone and done) but that does not assure an arrest without some …

You are potentially adding a kidnapping charge by getting a 3rd party to physically restrain her against her will. It may not stick, but not only do you not seem to be able to afford to fight such a charge, but you will not find any legitimate bouncer or private security who would agree to this. She is going to spin this any way she can to gain complete access to his property. I think your boyfriend is going to learn a hard lesson from this one.
/r/MensRights22/12/12 12:19 AM

Do NOT let your boyfriend try and get physical with her and throw her out, she is counting on that. She will probably sell all his shit and be gone in the wind by the time he gets out of jail, and possibly only resurface to press charges (and have no clue what happened to all his stuff while he was in jail) If you want to add a messy domestic assault charge to this clusterfuck, by all means have him attempt to physically toss her out... but I would go through the legal eviction process, move out…

I am 100% sure she knows exactly what she is doing, the girl in question did this to many people and was also a crazy drug addict - it was her method of staying off the streets. This girl in this situation does not work, and the second he locks her out she will call the police or possibly try and break in. Since the police already have been informed that she has been living there through mistakes made by the boyfriend in his statements, she can call the police and demand to be let in. If she bre…

No, you have to agree to let them live there, as the boyfriend readily admitted to the police - this is what a lot of people seem to be missing here - he admitted that she was living there. If you let them stay for an extended period of time, which differs according to local laws, and then admit to the cops you were letting them live there, then yes, they can stay and you have to force a legal eviction. Believe it or not, there is a reason that she is not being kicked out by the police, and this…

That is simply not true. You do not need a written contract to have tenancy, you can just accept money or in some circumstances say they are allowed to live there. You can have a verbal agreement of tenancy - I have done it before myself. Verbal agreements are just as legally binding, they are just much harder to prove so usually nobody wants to enter into that sort of agreement. Many times if you have multiple roommates, some will not be on the lease. Are you saying that you can just up and loc…

His word was admitting that he let her stay there. He should have never told them that, and that she was only there for a day, not sleeping there for a week. Had he never told them he let her live there, then this would not be an issue. At that point, it has already been reported and noted that he DID admit he gave her residency, and he cant just go back on it with a different set of officers. The officers hands were tied the moment he said he was letting her live there for a week, and I would b…

yes, but the police do not know that and can not just take one side, the judge has to make the call concerning her tenancy. Police just enforce laws and rulings, since the BF admitted she was staying there, they had to assume she had a right to stay there and let the courts make the decision. Imagine the converse of the situation, where an angry boyfriend calls the cops after a fight and claims the girl he just kicked out has no right to stay, even though she has property in the residence and ha…

Yes, most places will not. But some will, and it is a legal way to obtain tenancy. Since the police can not make the call (after the boyfriend admitted to basically letting her live there and that she was not trespassing, and she lied and claimed she DID live there) then a judge has to make a tenancy ruling to get her out. Just because most places will not allow subleases does not mean that subleasing is not regarded as legal tenancy; it is. So now the formal eviction process must begin. I am su…

This is true and not true. You do not need to sign a lease all the time to have tenants rights, usually taking payment is enough to qualify for a month to month contract. Now in the end, it will be determined that she does not have tenants rights, but the eviction process is what determines who has rights, and until that is completed she DOES have assumed rights since the boyfriend admitted to letting her live there for a week. But no, leases and signatures are not the end all be all way to obta…

Because she is lying, and he admitted he was letting her stay there. The police have to assume both parties have equal believability, and a judges ruling will determine legal tenancy. She will lose, but it also buys her time, a lot of time. People can neg me all they want, it doesnt change the fact that this sublease clause is what is coming into play here. Since she is a crazy liar, and he admitted to allowing her to stay for an extended period of time, a judges ruling on tenancy needs to be ma…

Because she could legally be a sublease. Of course she is not, she is lying, but the courts have to accept her word as equal to his. This is why they have eviction hearings; to determine who has what tenants rights. It is not a police decision, they can not determine who is and is not a legal tenant. This is up to a judges ruling. The boyfriend screwed himself over by admitting he let her live there, had he not done that, they would have kicked her out.

Sublease is a legal living arrangement. A tenant can sign a sublease - it may not be legal, but it needs to get sorted out in court. Some lease agreements allow for sublease, many do not, but it needs to get sorted out in court.

It is called a sublease. Legal tenant rights. Just because you signed a lease doesn't mean you know every facet of tenant law (in fact, since this is your first lease and you just signed it, combined with all the BS you spewed, clearly you know very little) - I think almost everyone has signed more than a few leases in their life... wow, you signed a whole lease before? I dont think you are understanding the tenants rights issue at hand. She is claiming legal residence, and the boyfriend already admitted to letting her stay. This means in most states a legal eviction has to be seen through. It is not as simple as it seems. I have seen this game ran before. She technically has no rights, but since he admitted to letting her stay already, and she is claiming she DOES, it all has to be sorted out in court now. She can dispute that she is a resident and since her boyfriend already admitted to letting her stay there, a full legal eviction process has to go through. She will lose in the process, but it will take months. *edit Sublease Sublease Sublease... This is not really extreme; it is the norm. You will pay much more for having a plan registered in an urban area than a rural or suburban area. I have experienced it first hand. Car insurance is also hugely based on region; IE you will pay less for having a plan registered in the suburbs, or even less for rural, than a plan urban areas. if this is a hoax, it is a good one, because Reddit has been subpoenaed for the identities of the people who egged him on/// Someone must have died, or someone is going the distance to troll.

you have to remember, thAT 5% is dealing with some pretty life altering and depressing real life issues. Not saying that it is a 100% excuse for some of the stuff that goes on, but it is not abusive, and there are reasons. A lot of MR posters are at the end of their rope, in very dark places due to a system that goes against them. It can be VERY depressing and dark, and it sometimes seems like there is no end.

I don't care, you're the one who keeps talking around the issue. I'm just saying you did something that any martial artist or self defense practitioner should know; turning your back to someone who has already violently attacked you is universally a really bad idea. For some reason you can't grasp this was a mistake, but it's really basic stuff. I hear a lot of "I'm so much bigger than him" or "I'm so dangerous that..." but no realization that you did something really dumb that resulted in you g…

Ok, so you're a boxer, who is trained in martial arts to the point you are registered with the German govt, but you never learned not to turn your back to a guy who just assaulted you? Really? What are they teaching you in German Karate? Sounds legit... "yeah I'm like totally a boxer and my hands are registered weapons with the government. Let's go outside and finish this, but first let me turn my back to you" I'm missing something?

Yes, I live in America, it's like, dangerous...everywhere. They don't let you have glass bottles in priz, or even pens with plastic outer casings, just these little rubber flexi-pens, but it's generally always a really, really bad idea to turn your back to someone who just assaulted you. It doesn't matter if you were planning on hitting him (I guess you were asking him outside to look at the stars); he clearly had plans on hitting you, since, you know, he had already hit you at that point.

Your mistake for telling him to take it outside then turning your back to him. How are you going to escalate it then turn your back to your opponent? You NEVER turn your back to someone who has already hit you once, and you are intending on getting in a full out fist fight with. You're lucky he didn't slit your throat from behind with a bottle stem.

If you ever are confused about her wanting you to get some creep away, just casually stand next to your lady friend. I try and wing with girls a lot, and in a creepster situation she will pretty much always throw her arms around you or hold hands or some other obvious physical attention to let the dude know she isn't physically interested in him. This pretty much always drives the most aggressive creeps away too, since it's disheartening for anyone to try and pick up a girl who is all over some …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
