I wholeheartedly agree. I had a friend that was engaged, the were in the 3rd year of dating. they went to couples counseling for 6-8 months. I was like what????? If you don’t get along now stop dating. The core issue was a disagreement over gun control, gun ownership and having a gun in the house. After trying, unsuccessfully to resolve, they split. Totally agree. And, as you imply, a ‘no’ response may be something the other partner cannot live with and it is the end of the relationship.

Sorry this is more of a comment than a reply to your comment. On the one hand, and pretty much my emotions, agree with you. i certainly only want a monogamous relationship. But, for arguments sake, is that right of us, that of the thousands of things in a relationship that are important we single out sex as the outlier.
