Saddening truthAhh! I see the misunderstanding No. It was made because you have (I read "had") a career that will cause you to constantly be separated from your child. In the case I'm describing, I had not been in the military for over a year at the time the judgment was made. I assume in the case presented in OP the father was no longer in the military. Both were still cases of the judiciary using former (not current) military service as a reason to deprive them of custody. | /r/MensRights | 14/12/18 04:43 PM
Saddening truthSo to be clear, you are of the opinion that every veteran (who has a kid they were separated from due to their military service) should continue to be denied custody of their child(ren) after their service has ended? | /r/MensRights | 14/12/18 04:12 PM
Saddening truth...so then you're able to prove you deserve the 50/50 This. This thought process is the problem. Mothers don't generally have to prove they are deserving of custody. I should not, and no father should, have to "prove" they deserve 50/50 custody. If the mother is trying to claim the father is unfit and doesn't deserve 50/50 custody (or the vice versa) than it should be up to her to prove lack of fitness. Sadly, it tends to work out as you describe instead. | /r/MensRights | 14/12/18 10:29 AM
Saddening truthAt the very least you should have to re-build the relationship with your child before being granted the 50/50 You are making the assumption that this didn't happen. And I understand why, as you don't know my situation. However, for more than a year before this decision I was in my child's life at least every other weekend and one day a week. More than that on some occasions. And the judge who made this decision knew that. | /r/MensRights | 14/12/18 01:23 AM
Saddening truthI get your point. And I seriously considered it before forming my opinion. But: Being separated from you child is a function of being in the military. If you extend out the logic my judge made in my judgment, it would necessarily apply to all veterans. As such, this decision was made because I was in the military, not in spite of that fact. | /r/MensRights | 13/12/18 11:57 PM
Saddening truthAre combat vets supposed to get special consideration or something? The problem is that he is getting special consideration due to his veteran status. He is especially considered not to be deserving of custody because of his veteran status. | /r/MensRights | 13/12/18 10:01 PM
Saddening truthAs stated elsewhere in this thread, and granted it's anecdotal, but in my case, my veteran status is specifically stated as a reason for not granting 50/50 custody. Here is the specific line from my judgment: Unfortunately, because of Father’s history in the Air Force, he has really spent little time with [The Child] over the past six years. This is an example of the family court denying a father (me) some custody, for the explicitly stated reason of being a veteran. | /r/MensRights | 13/12/18 07:49 PM
Saddening truthI see you got a lot of answeres already, I'll give you another in two parts 1) the pay and benefits, while in the military, are actually a couple orders of magnitude higher than someone could get without any college. 2) enlistees generally sign a 4-6 year contract even the are young (often 18) before realizing what they are getting into. Patriotism is pervasive in this country. | /r/MensRights | 13/12/18 06:57 PM
Saddening truthThe problem is not that family courts are not giving fair custody to fathers and they are veterans. The problem is that the family courts and not giving fair custody to fathers because they are veterans. | /r/MensRights | 13/12/18 06:53 PM
Saddening truthHere's a line taken directly from my judgement, as it began to justify not giving me the 50/50 custody I asked for: Unfortunately, because of Father’s history in the Air Force, he has really spent little time with [The Child] over the past six years. | /r/MensRights | 13/12/18 04:19 PM
I am looking for opportunities to provide small one time donations to further men's rights activies.Maybe it's not up your alley but: my site There's a section to donate. I'm a one man operation right now, but I'll make sure your money goes towards either helping fathers who want custody, or raising awareness about the problem. Email me if you're not comfortable with BTC. | /r/MensRights | 25/11/18 12:46 AM
Does anyone have hard data to prove family court bias against men?I can give you a case study of my personal case, wherein, the judge lied excessively about the facts of the case, in her judgment. I'd be willing to make myself available to anyone looking to study the subject and create a real research study. | /r/MensRights | 11/11/18 09:29 PM
I was told that it's "patently untrue" that men have little influence in family courtI could offer you a case-study of the opposite. link | /r/MensRights | 27/10/18 05:32 AM
After Legal Mediation failed, I have no optionsWould anyone else support me in doing a hunger strike? I would completely understand why. I would think you are correct in the magnitude of your response. I also think it wouldn't turn out as well as you'd like. I don't know how I can support you. I'd share your story in FB, but I honestly don't have that much of a reach. | /r/MensRights | 24/02/18 08:38 PM
