Let's understand it this way. We live in a society, we've jobs/business. We've to interact with people. Now unless you go and live like a hermit, you've to follow some proven ways to improve your life which is formulated by the society. Like... Developing good communication skills, improving memory, hygiene, your routine or anything which will help you in your life. That's what my definition of the standards is.
