The most obvious answer would be to have the child stay with the parent who can afford them. Which would possibly go against not only the desires of the child but also the adult. That already happens aswell. The children already suffer due to decisions of a parent that's the entire point of the post lol. Yes, you do the best to mitigate that, i.e. child support that goes into supporting basic necessities rather than solely education. Paying thousand of dollars a month for your child and watching the other parent spend it on themseleves or waste it is also a strain for most people. 50/50 or 60/40 doesn't weaken anything, when kid is with parent A they pay for their day to day life and when with parent B they pay for their day to day life, pretty simple. And child support goes into an invested fund soley for the child wether that's an education fund or other. There are also tons and tons of work from home jobs now and online education. Not to mention I never said one parent full-time and the other parent 0 parenting time. I was actually thinking of a 50/50 or 60/40 split. Shifting focus away from the child? If a child was stuck in poverty because one parent can't afford them maybe they are not fit to have them in the first place. I do, and guess what it would be 90% more if I wasn't supporting someone else's lifestyle choices. And guess who doesn't contribute to it? That would be great if it was actually spent on the living expenses of the child while being age appropriate. Person A makes more money! They have to pay child support to person B even if it's 50/50 cause it's not fair! That's a good point but at the end of the day they would be an adult and can choose how to spend their money. If they decided to spend it all it would be no different that it is now and a very valuable life lesson.
