This is the only useful comment I've ever seen in response to "be confident". But if someone had told me this back when I was a struggling beta with no confidence, it would have just blown right past me. Hit the spot. The rest of it is lovely, thanks.

Thanks. I was surprised to see people found my response helpful. I felt a little better than usual today because of it.

Of course it never goes away. Your talking like depression is some sort of disease, when in reality its just a normal human emotion that everyone has to deal with. I think you're mixing up depression and "being sad"

Yes. Nobody "deserves" anything.

People will tell you that you need to "get over" your depression before making progress in others things. As someone whose been clinically depressed for many years. This is a load of shit. Now, you should still work on it. Start lifting (or another form of intense exercise). Personally, the only time life isn't painful is when I lift. Therapy is great. Do it. I've had therapy for 3 years, I still do--it's easy because it's free through my school. and I assume if you're in school it'll be free as…

Why can't women ignore cultural factors and do something themselves for once instead of depending on men to take everything further?

Clearly they are, and it's certainly because of my age group. And respect != attraction. But anyways, I've tried since I was 16 to overcome relationship problems and longer for mental illness. It's never going to happen. Edit: I would still argue intelligence is unattractive. Are women attracted to the young professor who dresses like a hobo and thinks about whether or not numbers exist? No. They're attracted to the guy who can pretend he's somewhat intelligent by saying things that can be perce…

Plenty of people don't overcome their problems, but the point is that plenty do and there's no reason to think you won't. One can also say there's no reason to think I will. And I'm aware there's more to life than women and relationships. And I'd probably be happy and content if I had ever had one. Because I'm aware it won't make me happy. But then I can move on and do what I want to do because it's the only aspect of life I feel I haven't experienced. And I'm sure there are plenty of girls like…

My depression (and to a lesser degree anxiety) are due to the fact that I've never had a relationship and probably never will. So what's the point of a "successful life" if that just means i'll be alone forever? I've tried plenty of medications, only the MAOI's work. But they make me worse at math, which is the one thing I have, and consequently is why I feel so alienated (people fucking hate math--I spend 8 hours a day doing it, no woman ((or anyone, really)) is ever going to find me interestin…

I've actually overcame (more like ignored it) it to the point where I have friends who are girls--I've gone on one date and was a nervous wreck. And I've had the balls to ask maybe 3-4 girls in my lifetime (I'm 19). The depression, I think, is a larger issue since I can't get myself to remain positive. At this point I've convinced myself i'll be a virgin and alone forever--which I know will only spiral me further down, but it's easier to understand the rational basis for that conclusion than rea…

I've been working for the past 3 years. I'm now 19. Why not just hire an escort? It's not ever going to happen otherwise.

I've managed to hit on girls and get dates How the fuck do you do this? I have severe social anxiety and severe MDD. Medication makes me worse at the only thing I have in life (math). I meditate daily, and have had therapy for years. I've had one date in my life. Never kissed a girl/virgin etc...

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
