I’m too exhausted by lunch for socializing and chit chat. I need that time to recharge. I’d absolutely hate lunching in the lounge every day. The people are fine, but it’s not for me.

“Was it right for Will to hit Chris on live television? Debatable. Lol.” Yeah, it is not debatable at all. Abusive behavior is abusive behavior. We can pretend that Will Smith is some knight in shining armor, defending his woman. I saw somebody who clearly has issues, who needs to get some help, stat. Defending Will Smith’s violence against Chris Rock as noble or acceptable is laughable and disturbing. Will Smith not only behaved violently tonight, but much of his speech sounded like abuser clic…

Many left-leaning, vocal “I’m a feminist” men are some of the scariest men I have encountered. I think it’s a predatory tactic. At a college party many years ago, a campus leader (progressive group) cornered me, and he was drunk. He took his belt off, and said the only way we would ever bond is if he was able to beat me with his belt because I was a stuck up bitch. Other people heard this, and someone got his older brother who quickly took him into another room. We didn’t have any history that e…

My problem is, I don’t want to be locked into dinner with somebody. I don’t want to do a coffee date either but the thought of having to spend potentially 90 minutes with some of the men I’ve met in the past is horrific. Is there another option on par with dinner?

Interesting thing you say about directions. I’m floored. I was attacked by a stranger on a walking path when I was 19 (he was about 30) and he asked me where a certain street was, right before he attacked me and broke my nose. A parking attendant saw what was happening and chased him away. Like you, I knew something bad was going to happen, deep in my bones, when he approached me.

I dumped a man I had been seeing for 10 months. He became sullen, moody, non-communicative and borderline mean for over a week. He acted like a grumpy teenager who lashes out. When I asked why, he told me it was because of the recent mass shootings in the country and made some sarcastic remark about how I should watch more CNN. I thought that was a ridiculous response from a middle aged man, and given that I live in the United States, I didn’t want to deal with this odd behavior every other week…

What if they dump you because you won’t accept a date? Does that count? A man here was persistent in asking me out, even though I told him I wasn’t interested in dating then, and he sent me paragraph after paragraph dumping me for not accepting his date offer. It read like we had years of history, and it ended with a warning to be careful because I might end up alone when I’m 80 years old.

I have been divorced 8 years. I waited a year, but it’s been a couple of years since I have dated. I’ve had a couple of longer term relationships. I realized that I don’t really enjoy dating, but I was doing it because I felt like I should. I’m in good shape, and I’m considered attractive for my age (43) and I get male attention. However, I have learned that I don’t want to give up any of my free time for a relationship, so I quit dating. When you’re a single parent and you work full-time your t…

I hear what you’re saying. It’s good to have standards and not do things you’re not comfortable doing. Don’t meet men for walks in the forest, etc.

If it is okay, why doesn’t he ask his coworkers via work email, or text? Better yet, maybe he should ask his sister-in-law, and all of his relatives. Everyone in his circle should weigh in on his important penis tattoo. I mean come on—why be childish and exclude people?

I totally get that. I’ve never let anyone live with me nor would I live with anyone while my son is growing up. No overnights have ever happened - none of that. My first responsibility is protecting my son, and he didn’t ask to have new people in his home.

I’m a mom. I used to think I should wait to introduce my son to a man, but I no longer think that’s best. If I’m dating someone seriously, and think there is long term potential, I introduce my son. Why? I think it’s only fair to my son. He deserves a chance to weigh in on the person too. I also need to see how the man treats my child. If he is in any way cold or mean to my son, he is history. We are a package deal and I lead with that in mind. I’ve only introduced two people to my son in 7 year…

I see gun ownership as a safety/ feminist issue. The only thing that equalizes things between me and a man intent on harming me, is a gun. So weird—I didn’t say “a man or woman intent on harming me…” just a man. 😱 That must mean I live in reality. I also carry to stay safe when I go into grizzly country. I used to live in MT. Guns are tools, and I have several. I have a few for clays, a 9mm for my home, several long guns which were passed down to me, and a .357.

A man asked me out on a dinner date and I replied, saying yes, but let’s switch the day. We were planning it at the time. He didn’t respond for several days.

This is so true. I know a grown ass 51 year old man, with advanced degrees and a wife, who whines about not being liked by girls in high school and the “psychological damage” it did to him. What an embarrassing clown.

That is bad! Is anything more embarrassing than being 43 and hit on by young men? Every time a 20 something guy flirts with me, or asks me out, I don’t feel flattered, I worry about why they think they can even approach me. I worry I’m sending out the wrong energy, as I find their behavior and audacity so off-putting. I know a couple of middle-aged women who get hit on by younger men. I think it’s a trend these days.

I looked my best after age 35. I’d say from 35-40 I leveled up, easily. Granted, I will admit the last two years I fight more grey hair, and I’m aging. So what. I still look good. This idea of a wall is new to me, and it’s honestly kind of stupid.

Suggesting plans or a date, and then going quiet when the time came for said plans to materialize. Bonus: he somehow blamed you for his inability to follow through.

I think this is a bullshit post. I have a son who has severe autism, and this reeks of ableism and all the other shitty comments I hear about how or why my son is “less than.” Holy shit FDS, do better than this garbage.

I once had a terrible argument with a male friend over this. He said nobody he knew thought cat-calling was insulting, and even his girlfriend liked it. Yeah, ok dude. The things some men say out loud never cease to amaze me.

I bet he’s a sex offender pervert. I don’t care how old you are, you don’t do that to people. You don’t do that to people even if you’re their age. And by the way, I am Gen X, and in college in the late 90s, I once ran up to a house where frat boys were cat-calling me, banged on the door and demanded they stop. I had to yell it because no one would open the door. Funny how it was fine to stand on the porch and yell at me as I walked by, but the minute I refused to take it and approached them, th…

The Brokeass Men of Reddit are offended. It happens. Especially when a pretty lady says she expects a basic dinner date. They cannot ask their mom to borrow THAT much money. Be reasonable, y’all.

I’m sorry it happened to you, too. It definitely makes you feel anxious about what they could do. It’s scary that they get upset over literally nothing. Imagine what they’re like in a relationship when you have a real problem! I told this guy if he threatened me again I’d call the cops. I was worried right at first, but then I realized people probably know he is crazy, as he couldn’t possibly be that sane with others, given he threatened my job after two short dates.

Sadly I can relate. I kindly rejected an affluent business owner here (we live in the same town) and he threatened to go after my job. I have the screenshots—it was something like “it’s good that I am well rooted here and I know a lot of people. It comes in handy. You should be more careful who you piss off.” This after two short dates.

I saw it after I posted! Thanks. Btw, I have had guys do that kind of stuff to me too—they will drop some inappropriate suggestion in a message as a way to test my boundaries. Good for you for mentioning your discomfort to him. Sadly, he didn’t apologize, rather he doubled down on his poor behavior, and not only defended making you uncomfortable, he made you wrong for how you feel. This guy is a real loser and you gleaned all that in a text exchange. Well done!

Personally this is why I prefer older men. I’m in my 40’s, and men in their 50s and older are far less pornsick and porn obsessed than younger men. I do not want to remarry and I’m very selective about who I date. I get hit on by men in their 30’s too, and it’s always a hard pass for me, because they tend to be more pornsick and childish. I can’t imagine being choked. I didn’t know that even happened.
