Take 2. a misunderstanding to some cross-culture contextual pragmatics The way that some sort of (gender) sub-culture commonly understands a particular thing that has been said. Eg, You say A, but the person of the other group understands it as B. This situation could mean that A = 'Men can be dangerous" and B= 'Men are all rapists". The problem is that even though I do understand it, they way it is presented still offended me because it doesn't draw comparison between different types of men. When you use the word singular 'men' on its own, you are inclusive of the entirety of the male population, not just the ones that are applicable to a certain context. I believe women should definitely be aware of certain situations and things they could do so that they don't become victims of rape. But having to monitor the behavior of every man so that he doesn't surprisingly rape you is a stretch for me.
