We need to engage with them and also support them. It’s complicated though. The systemic issues they describe are real, but I would agree that a lot of them are looking for conflict with men rather than anything constructive. And the movement still hasn’t really owned up to that issue.

I have no doubt that being an autistic woman is harder than being an autistic man. But it also feels like I have so many individual traumas, from autism to abuse, that don’t really get a “social narrative.” Like there’s no mass movement or public outpouring of empathy for my experiences. Because ultimately, they only happened to me. So they’re not “systemic” enough to be valid. At least it can feel that way some days.

Rotten tomatoes doesn’t even have one score for movies. There’s the critic score and the audience score. And they don’t necessarily agree. I don’t think evaluating human beings is any less complicated than scoring movies. But even if there was a true hierarchy, I think you’d find more than one “type” at the top. And a lot of otherwise impressive people have a personality that keeps them from being truly at the top.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
