I get your point and admit that Portman would probably do better to direct her critique at the film community as a whole (people choosing directors for instance) rather than the Academy. I think one thing female directors suffer from is being primarily chosen for films that will be helped disproportionately by having a female director.

Men aren’t inherently better at chess though. They’re better as a result of women being discouraged from pursuing chess as a career.

In most places around the world, a young girl playing chess for hours every day is viewed less favorably then a young boy playing chess for hours every day. This means less girls are motivated to grind out on Chess and get insanely good at it. It’s really not that hard to understand dude.
