Every morning when you wake up make a list of the things you are grateful for. Every evening make a list of your strengths and the things you love about yourself.

That is your money. Keep it. I went to court over this. Judge ruled that if a split is not specified in the divorce agreement then whoever got the money from the IRS gets to keep it.

If she doesn't clear it with me before purchase then I don't pay. She does the same with me. Every now and then she tries to slip something by and I refuse to reimburse her. Gives her the opportunity to tell the kids that Daddy doesn't love them.

My ex had it specifically added to the divorce agreement that I would be subject to a lawsuit if I did this. Alas...

Take a day or days before replying to your ex. when you do, respond, don't react. Hang in there, holidays are almost over.

All the advice here is good. I would add that you should work on being your own best friend and getting into a support group for divorced men - you'll have lots to talk about, will help you mentally, and you get friendships out of it.

I feel happy, safe, secure. And I have perspective - now that I'm out I can see clearly what an abusive person she is. I made excuses for too long but I'm free now!

You need to fight for 50/50, anything less and you are out of the kids lives to a major extent.

Make sure you do not get cheated out of child tax benefits, fairest way is to alternate years you can claim deductions. In writing.

My experience - unless it is documented with the court then it's first come first serve (whoever files first gets the credit). When I asked my ex for some sort of agreement as to how we could switch off each year she was not amenable as she had already filed and claimed the credit. I took her to court over this, trying to have our agreement modified. Judge told me to go pound sand. Now I file as soon as possible each January and claim the credit.

My opinion is just have her served but make sure your ducks are in a row before you do. Follow lawyers advice.

Highly recommend you read up on NPD, narcissistic personality disorder. There's a few subs on Reddit or you can just Google it. But be warned, you can't unsee this info. If your wife does indeed have NPD it means the end of you staying in the marriage. Good luck.

Why does she get to take the kids? I don't get it. Get your kids back pronto. She doesn't bring them back you get your lawyer and/or the police involved.

Time is your friend, you'll feel better as you move forward. Be thankful you have a support group, and that you're young. More than enough time to start over and build a better life than before. My advice to you after reading your post: you said " She even told me she wasn’t kicking me out or to the curb (in text message). Not even 2 days after being gone she texted me that she removed my name from our apartment lease, and threaten to sell my car (which she did)". Get this straight - no one gets…

Sounds like you've been giving 100% and getting little effort on her part. If you're not appreciated it's time to move on. Sorry. But you deserve better and will find better. The "let's be friends" thing almost never works out and is code for "I have already consulted a lawyer, have put some money away, and am actively working on an exit strategy that will most certainly F you over when done". You need to get a lawyer asap. If you have a friend you can stay with that would be a good thing. consu…

Thank God no kids. Hold onto that. Compared to some of us you are getting out early and cheaply. But the heartbreak sucks. At some point you'll be over this and life will be good again. F her, time to move on.

I feel for you. I think we need to start teaching our children that marriage is an outdated institution designed to fuck over men. Best of luck, you'll get through it.

I just finished a "Zoom" court date for this last week. Sued the Ex for contempt when she didn't share the stimulus check. We have joint custody. Per our divorce agreement we alternate taking the kids as a deduction for taxes. I get even years, she gets odd years. Since the stimulus was issued in 2020 as a tax credit I thought I was on firm ground by filing for contempt to get not only half but 100% of the kids money. "Court" lasted all of 5 minutes..... Judge: "So there's nothing in your divorc…

Be vigilant. Do what you feel is right. Don't go easy just because the attorney recommends it. Recommend having a "Plan B" in place in case this woman does not work out.

I really don't know. Some days looking back it seems horrible, on others I'm just happy to be out. Getting better with time. Thanks for asking!

I am a divorced male who hired a female attorney. Turns out my attorney was previously divorced. Instead of empathy I believe on some level she identified with my ex wife. Came to this realization when it was too far along to hire someone else to represent me. If I had to do it over would hire a man. Edit: came back here to add that this attorney was referred to me by female friends and was reported to be a bulldog. In my employ she was a pussycat. Cost me dearly.

I believe the best thing we can do for our children is to teach them that marriage is an outdated institution designed to separate men from their assets. Either employ an iron-clad pre-marital agreement or don't get married.

I believe I'm dealing with Covid better than most of the population, very happy on my own with no rush to "get back to normal". I think being solo is the new normal for me. Pleased with my mindset. After the late 2019 divorce I thought being alone would be hell on earth. Turns out that hell is other people, I have not been lonely. It has been a happy surprise.

You are hurt and pissed off and rightly so. But please do yourself a favor and play the long game. Go see a lawyer asap. You will regret it if you just run from this, she'll take advantage and you'll pay dearly. Good luck, be strong, be patient, be cool. You'll get out of this, the trick is to keep as much of your stuff as possible. A lawyer will help with that.

Yes, it will get better. We've all been there. Job one should be for you to find a way to regulate your emotions, don't say or do anything that will put you or your custody in jeopardy. Cool as a cucumber, that's you from this point forward. Assertive, calm, in control - not reactive. You've got this.

I would agree with this. Our child psychologist knew nothing of narcissism and never heard the term "parallel parenting". Waste of time, had to go to court to get her removed.

She sucks. Don't give her the satisfaction. Try to put on a brave face and walk the kid to the car. Be gracious. Show her you don't care.

I was recently in a very similar position. Court gave my wife 25% of my 401k money although her teachers pension was worth more than my retirement funds. She will be entitled to half of your social security benefits if she does not remarry (no cost to you, you'll still get 100%). If you earn more than her you could end up paying alimony. You'll want an attorney well versed in settlements involving retirement assets vs. government pensions. Also, do a Google search. I believe there was recent NY …

I cohabitated with my ex for over a year. It was hell. Tell your lawyer to do everything possible to get you and the kids out of there asap. Keep your phone handy and ready to record - odds are good she will accuse you of hitting her. If things get heated you'll need to walk out, she will try everything to provoke you. Be strong for the kids. Show them that abuse is never tolerable.
