That’s so true. I have a great family who love me so I’m gonna focus on enjoying their love and company during the holidays.

I honestly wouldn’t mind.

I think this only works if a long long time has passed and you have both moved on. Like, I could be friends with my HS boyfriend who is now married and has a child, but not with the asshole who broke my heart this summer.

I actually have an acquaintance who’s not very attractive and doesn’t have much to offer in the personality deparment either (I have never met anyone so complainy in my whole life). He spent ages creating an OKC profile (it was terrible, made him delete half of it), and then got 2 matches in a week. TWO!!!!!! I had FOUR THOUSAND likes in my first week. The saddest part is, you know how if you don’t pay for the full version they tell you “75 people like you”, but you can only see a blurred photo …

I dont want to know anything because I literally do not have enough information about you to even ask a question.

Hahaha yes they think we can be manipulated into trying to prove we’re worthy. NICE TRY PAL. For the millionth time, IT IS YOU MEN WHO HAVE TO PROVE THEIR VALUE TO US. YOU OUTNUMBER US 10/1, THE MARKET IS FLOODED SO ITS YOUR JOB TO STAND OUT.

Yes, exactly! When the first photo is a group one and you’re like pleasebethehotonepleasebethehotonepleasebethehotone.... nope. It’s the short balding guy in the onesie.

You make a very good point. However, I think you also need to consider that men don’t tend to take photos of themselves/eachother, so most of their pics are ones where a female friend insisted on a selfie or a photo at a wedding.

“Hey” messages KILL me. I have put so much work into my OKC profile. I talk about my job (which is really unique, so great conversation starter), my values, my family, my hobbies, things I’m currently obsessed with (TV, films, music, podcasts, etc.) it’s discouraging to have your time wasted by LVM who can’t even bother to read past the photo. I have also noted a correlation between “hey” messages and empty profiles. You can really tell how serious someone is about finding love and how much effo…

For a woman to be so intrigued by a single photograph that she must find out more, the photo should be of fucking Michael B Jordan.

Or when they’re in their 30s and list “travelling” as hobby, but all their photos seem to be of them in youth hostels in Vietnam wearing elephant pants and drinking from a bucket. Im not a college student and I have NO intention of sleeping in a bunk bed in a dorm with 20 drunk Australians. I work for a reason and the reason is to pay for comfort and luxury. Take your white dreadlocks elsewhere, my wannabe free spirited pal.

Just keep going on dates and notice how he treats you. Don’t bring up being his girlfriend after such a short time, you need to give it time and see what patters and feelings develop

Yes!! A male friend of mine recently stated that his job was “mainly financial background with a focus on customer service”. He works as a cashier and hasn’t even gone to university.

“Message me, I can’t see likes.” What does that even mean?? You will see if I like you when we match. No one can see likes unless they pay for premium.

Also, when men message women who are WILDLY out of their league. I get dozens of messages a day from literal cave trolls, men so hideous words cannot describe them (although I do have all the screenshots saved). The best part is a lot of them we’d even have like 60% compatibility on OKC (I only match 95% or higher). I did an experiment a while back and messaged these men back saying: “Thank you for your message. Why do you think we’d be a good match?” And 90% of the answers were “because you are…

Omg the swipe left ones, yes!! It’s so off putting when you start with what you DON’T want rather than what you want. Comes off as super negative and big headed.

Omg yes!!! I cannot tell you how many “hey” messages I get. Ugh. This is not a bar, the whole point of OLD is that I can get more info upfront than I would if I were to walk up to random strangers. And then messages from men for whom you’re WILDLY outside their league.

Well this guy and I worked in the same building so I would chat to him at work and stuff, so cinema followed by dinner seemed fine. This was a long time ago, though, these days I want to know exactly what/how/when/why we’re doing.

Exactly. It’s like saying: I know I want a pair of black leather boots, but how about I browse all the sportswear and kitten heels and slippers just in case? Makes no sense.

I always end up feeling worse though, because there is no way to convince them and you just end up feeling depressed at what we as women are up against.

Also, don’t bother buying lingerie or even matching sets. They rip them off without a second glance so might as well wear your comfy sets

You are so right. I have also dealt with my own depression and been “clean” (for lack of a better term lol) for over 5 years! So it makes me pause. Like, what if someone had stuck by me when I was going through it? But to be fair, ultimately I made the decision to get help all by myself, and I have held out on dating till I thought I was okay to handle it. It’s just so devastating because I haven’t felt excitement like this for so long I didn’t think I would feel it again, and now I have to let …

Oh well no, he didn’t not reply. I also didn’t text him. I usually wait for him to text me first, and he didn’t text for a couple days. He then texted to ask how I was and because I’m childish I didn’t text him back for a day. And then when I finally did he told me he had been dealing with that. So I feel kinda bad about that.

Bringing up money on a first date is tacky and uncomfortable. I guess it depends on the socioeconomic status of the men you’re going out with, but I usually tend to go for the kind of men who work in nice crisp suits, and never once has any of them flinched at paying for anything ever. I did get one guy complain about how expensive the place I’d picked was, and another guy tell me it was my turn to pay for a round of drinks. These were not Men in Suits. But honestly, it’s a first date. If you ca…

He is not. But yesterday he broke down and told his mum, which I think is a big step. He’s from a Caribbean background, so mental health is kind of taboo in his community, but I want to encourage him about finding a therapist and talking to his Dr about medication. If he doesn’t want to then I agree, I can’t be with him.

That is such a valid point. Women direct their pain inwards, men outwards. I don’t want to be responsible for him, I can’t be responsible for him. So what I was thinking was that I could offer to be friends first (since we live apart anyway) and give him space to get better. I would never date him if he wasn’t doing anything to help himself, but if I saw him going to therapy and on medication, actually showing signs of improvement, I think that would be acceptable. I want to talk to my own thera…
