But for beginners, 3 x week is good and 7 x a week is too much. I recommend the book Practical Programming by Mark Rippetoe; if you read it you'll know pretty much all you need in order to build muscle effectively. Your body does not have enough time to recover from your workouts, and recovery is when your muscles actually grow and get stronger. Like /u/puaCurveBall said, you're probably not getting enough food as well. Track your macros (protein, carbs, and fats) more meticulously to make sure you're properly nourished.
