2	The 'Yawn' Trick Technically alliteration is the repetition of the stressed consonants in a line, but in common use it has simply come to mean the repetition of a consonant or sound at the beginning of the word. 2	The 'Yawn' Trick Alliteration is repeating a sound at the beginning of a word. Assonance is repeating a vowel sound anywhere in a word. e.g. Vomit on his sweata already, mom's spaghetti. In this line from the Eminem song "Lose Yourself" the repeated "ah" sound is assonance. I bolded the relevant sounds. Conversely consonance repeats consonant's sounds in close concurrence. 1	The 'Yawn' Trick I do a similar thing with cracking my knuckles. I've found that if I see someone else crack their knuckles I immediatly have the urge to do so as well.
