I was speaking with left-right political dichotomy, as the broad spectrum to which we navigate societal discourse, where everything is inherently political in some way, it isn't just established political parties or the current political landscape or Overton window. Basically, right-wing politics can summarised and being conservative in nature or reactionary to progress, and upholds established hierarchies and systems of inequality, whereas the left can be characterised as being progressive in n…

Both sources are from the Telegraph, so not exactly the most good-faith reporting on such an issue. With the Telegraph being a more right-leaning publication and the rise in popularity of the Greens who align to the left, these sorts of headlines appeal greatly to the growing population of frustrated men, who have been taken in by right-wing populist rhetoric. Unfortunately, the UK's political landscape is more and more resembling that of the US, or at least the right-wing narrative here is. My …

For me, as a leftist, this sub serves as a space to discuss mens/male issues, with a progress / left-wing lens, and away from many of the men's/male issues communities, that unfortunately end up learning into right-wing rhetoric. I'll agree that the left in general has dropped the ball when I comes to men, and why it has seemingly been picked up by the right, however that doesn't mean it should be a right-wing issue. The right has rarely if ever been on the side of social progress historically, …

I don't think the performative male male thing is aimed at unattractive males. Hence, people like Hasan Piker, who is conventionally attractive, are often included when talking about performative males. Unattractive males who don’t comform socially are deemed incels or creeps or socially invisible all together.

Definitely a interesting insight, but I think the danger in regards to the Man v Bear concept is literally about patental physical danger, however you're use of the concept to make an analogy on the wider discourse, does have a point. I do think that this idea of a 'left-wing alpha male' needs to be looked at more. However, there is this sudden online trend of talking about 'performative males', which I haven't really looked into that much, but it seems like it's aimed at guys who seem to take o…

First off, it's like you are using "Republican" to refer to the right in general, meaning you are you are probably approaching this from an American two pary prospective, whist is very serface level. I am not American and am a leftist/communist, so I approach political issues with a broader theoretical perspective, as opposed to the dynamics of two major parties (that both ultimately serve capitalist introductions). I didn't post this the confirm some bias I had that feminism is right-wing, more…

That video hit the nail on the head and absolutely outlined the problem of liberal/neo-liberal feminism. The "who set the system up" phrase completely dismisses class as a factor.

I'm planning to listen to it as an audio book when it is available on Spotify. I don't necessarily consider Ash and Novara Media to be grifters. I feel that it is a problem if we dismiss any significant attempt to critique the left from a left wing position. If she changes her tune in the event of a liberal shift in world politics, then by all means, she should then be called a hypocrite grifter.

I've found her and Novara Media to be quite good or at least better then others with high profile on the left when talking about men's issues. I am really looking forward to reading Ash's new book Minority Rule. I would also highly recommend the Novara Media downstream video about incels. https://youtu.be/tKADQ5l4dFU?si=kV7F4ML5fg4r7sa6

I feel like this falls into the concept of 'white feminism', that is often called out by feminists and the left, although the misandrist aspect igored.

Not sure what your point is, the fact that this is a leftwing space assumes that many of the user here are socialists, communists and/or anarchists. Therefore, they are idealogocally concerned with the rights of workers, it doesn't mean we can't also have this conversation. Your comment seems class redutionist.

Saw this video suggested to me on YouTube earlier today. I didn't watch it as I assumed would just essentially be misandry dressed up as some sort of critique of patriarchy, when really it's just youtube slop dunking on 'incels'. Seeing that it has been posted in this sub suggests that I'm probably correct in my assumption. This is really frustrating, as certain male-typical issues are just ignored or played or laughs. Meanwhile, we're seeing facisim on the rise in America and other parts of the…

I would argue that the context of how the circle is used is important. a circle by itself is not representative of intersex people, however when displayed within the modern pride, it then has contextual meaning.

we're still trying to address 21st-century problems based on the ways people reanalyzed and reconceptualized the issues in the '60s and '70s. I'll agree with you that to some extent, especially in regards to certain modern feminist narratives but I'm still struggling to understand your overall point. It seems like you conflating the LGBTQ+ movment with feminism. Of course the two have overlap and intersections but this doesn't really have anything to do with the intersex part of the extended pri…

Alot of mainstream media I've seen recently about is has done the usual "including woman and children" in its reporting. Highlighting Children sure, that's tragic and emphasises how terrible the situation is but I find that viewing adult women the same as children is completely out dated and perpetuates the notion that men are expendable or in way some more acceptable casualties.

Yeah you have a point, alot of boomers are a good example. I am somewhat optimistic with millennials and gen z as we trend to be quite politically engaged and educated and both generations are facing similar struggles. Obviously not everyone will get smarter with age.

I think it's important to keep in that these people are still young, they may not have a rounded or tangible political outlook other than surface level pop feminist buzzwords or a very basic and/or misguided analysis of identity politics, and probably only really cares about issues that relate to them directly. I believe this because serious self respecting leftist would not use terms like "mansplaining" nither would they scold a follow worker by accusing them of "abusing their male privilege" o…

Vaush has the occasional good take in regards to men's issues/rights but I think it's more of a case that he is one of the few leftist youtubers who has actually talked about the subject, rather than a leftist YouTuber that is actively committed to men's rights. Also, the wider online left seems to have an irrational hatred for Vaush.

Because conservatisim is rarley if ever on the side of social progress. The right may seem to care more about men's rights but ultimately does not provide an effect is solution to the issue and tbh just harms men and ofcouse women, after all, communities like the red pill or the followers of Andrew Tate came from a Conservative position, but quite often serve as a gateway to the alt-right pipeline. I'm not going to suddenly start thinking socialism is bad or support politics that harm other grou…

Men's rights/issues need to be looked at through a progressive/left wing lense, just like any other social cause. Conservatisim is rarley if ever on the side of constructive social progress and men's rights/issues is no different. Sure, the left is quite often guilty of neglecting or ignoring men's issues, but that doesn't mean it should automatically fall to the right. Currently it is seen as more of a right-wing issue, possibly because of the lefts failure to adequately acknowledge men's issue…

Looking at your comment history not I'm sure you're here in good faith and understanding but you've completely ignored the broader issue I was pointing to in my comment. It's a privilege because women have it easier than men in the modern dating scene, women generally have more options than men in dating, and dating apps prove this. If you're familiar with this sub, then you may be familiar with the statists of male sexlessness but the issue isn't just about sexlessness, that's only a part of th…

Another link between economic and sexual inequality is the rise of Only Fans models. Many women have quite literally capitalized on the loneliness and isolation of young men (we have all seen the statistics of male sexlessness). Theres now "girlfriend experiences" being offered as a service by some OF models, It really is depressing that this is even now somthing to profit from. Datings apps are full of profiles of women promoting their OF accounts also on social media platforms like Facebook an…

The points you made are valid, however it is probably worth also considering that 'geek' circles nowadays have alot of anti-SJWs and reactionaries in them which is probably part of the reason why a lot of these films with heavier feminist influence didn't do so well. These are the types of reactionaries get angry when a female character is designed to look some what normal and not a sexualised figure that primarily appeals to the male gaze. [Edit] why am I getting downvoted? I wasn't trying to s…

Great point, misandry may in fact be a better way to describe it and I agree that the term "toxic masculinity" cam be harmful to men but I this case was talking about the superficial idea of masculinity that insecure men feel they need to live up to, that goes against what they want to do or think is the right thing to do. would also like to point out the meme of the Father Who Barbecues as another idea that reinforces the perceived connection between men and meat. Absolutely it does but in my e…

This is also a valid point. in Japan, its considered feminine to eat sweets and cakes or profess an interest in them). I never knew this. Do Japanese men avoid things like candy for this reason or is it just desserts?

As a vegan activist myself and have had plenty of discussions, arguments and debates with all kings of people, and I can confidently say that there is absolutely a link between perceived masculinity and meat with alot of men. It's not necessarily that some men actively eat animal products because It is "masculine", I think it's more that there is some insecurity around not eating animal products or the choice not too. Veganism is still sometimes deemed more "feminine" so men who are insecure wit…

Legalize prostitution, the criminalization of which literally just puts these women in harm's way and subjugates them to pimps and gangs. Whilst I agree with legalisation, I don't think sex work is a solution to this issue. Paying for sex is impersonal and I can't see it helping with the root cause of a males loneliness, paying for someone's company isn't the same as having some who wants to be with you. I'll also add that online sex work like only fans has capitalised on male loneliness and has…

"it's not hard to find someone to have sex, therefore it's your problem/you're the problem". This absolutely screams privilege, and that they haven't truly experienced the struggles of loneliness. Something alot of women and feminists refuse to accept is that it dating is generally easier for them and stacked in their favour. The average man generally has less options than the average woman in the dating scene and still is expected to be the one to initiate and set up the date, all whilst riskin…

My hope is that the use of incel as an insult becomes a slur and is taken as seriously as slut-shaming because it is it virgin shaming. The issues of male loneliness isn't taken seriously and isn't validated by general Internet and society, the ones who do validate the issue is the Incel, red pill, MGTOW communities that unfortunately propagate very problematic rhetoric and unhealthy rhetoric. I'm am seeing more videos on YouTube addressing the in a constructive way but these are still are and f…

There is the stereotypical incel that has an extremely sexist and dark worldview and there is the just the people (generally men/boys) who are involuntarily celibate often due to depression, low confidence, low self esteem, autism, social anxiety etc, however don't engage in the stereotypical incel rhetoric. The Internet has helped make the term 'incel' into an insult (that I believe is basically just virgin shaming) and therefore Ignores the fact there are people who are struggling with dating.…

Imo the mainstream has been ultimately in favour of Depp. I found that it is just people online and smaller independent op-eds that are trying to defend Heard. I've come into contact with people (primarily women) trying to just down-play the situation and put forth the idea that they are both as bad as each other. This essentially ignores the wider discourse, that women can be abusive towards men in relationships that isn't taken seriously.

Can't support Mike's praise of Thatcher (Although I'll agree that she was a female politician that got to where she did on merit, not necessarily by virtue of being a woman) or his bootstraps style rhetoric (in this video at least) and his 'men struggle so everyone should struggle' position, as I don't feel it is truly beneficial to wider social progress. However he brought up valid issues with statistics, yet was the only one challenged on this, Whilst the other two pretty much just gave anecdo…

IMO it depends on context, I've always been of the idea that toxic masculinity Is a valid concept and something that negatively afflicts us, many of societal and cultural expectations and even treatment from other men is a result of toxic masculinity. However I would agree that using "toxic masculinity" as a throwaway blanket term for anything typically associated with men that someone doesn't like is very much like female hysterica.

You're right, and there are plenty of men in progressive spaces that don't truly give attention to the subject. I feel like anyone (especially men) who do approach the subject will get alot of heat from others within progressive spaces. The only large left-wing streamer I know of that give some attention to mens rights issues is Vaush but he very much hated by alot of the left. I generally think the first step is to get male issues/mens right talked about and taken seriously within progressive spaces. It's important that women also take responsibility and accountability to acknowledge how they hold up misandry and even patriarchy.
